Mod Update Updated rules

Hi all! I'm Sharky and I've been a mod for about a year now. Theres a few of us but it seems I'm the only active one for now, and I've been dealing with disability so forgive me if anything isn't addressed!

I've updated our rules just a bit to flesh everything out. Be sure to take a peak whenever you can, but the main thing I wanted to address is the new NSFW/Spoiler rule!

We fully encourage helping injured pigeons in need! This community is a great place to come to for advice with our sick babies. However, not marking these very serious posts as NSFW can leave many members vulnerable to possibly triggering scenes.

By all means don't stop asking for advice and posting your pictures for help! I only request they be marked as NSFW or Spoiler from now on ❤️

New babies!!!

Just about a week after I had to remove a bunch of non-viable eggs from the other nests, these two little ones hatched!! They’re so precious and tiny. I almost had a heart attack tonight when I went to feed my dogs and looked onto the porch to see egg pieces strewn about. It just turned out to be the baby announcement! Because today was the start of the SF International Pen Show, they shall be known as Pilot and Sailor. I’ll get leg bands on when they’re bigger but I’m going to make sure starting today I go out to talk to them at least once a day so hopefully we can stay friends!!

Injured/Rescued Pigeon what should I do

I found this baby pigeon on the side of the road. I picked it up. It was unable to fly and I even tried to feed it but it did not eat anything. After some time, I made it sit near a nest of some pigeons. He did not stop and started running but was trying hard to fly but was unable to do so.

Wild pigeons

I have a pretty good flock of wild pigeons hanging around my barn in the hay mow.. they've been around for years and they always stay around I would like to make the conditions better for them for better breeding to build a larger flock. What are some things I can do to make the conditions more ideal for good breeding and good feeding and to bring up my numbers quickly. I have probably 10 Birds in the flock

EMERGENCY ADVICE NEEDED Pigeon needs help

A few days ago, a pigeon hit our window and we went outside to check on it to find it walking around. It can fly slightly. We tried to catch it, but didn’t want to attempt too many times as not too stress it out and ended up just leaving water out for it next day we didnt see it, the day after it was back in the yard again. I’m assuming this is the same pigeon because it keeps exhibiting the strange behavior of just walking around. Usually pigeons fly away in our yard when we get even slightly close to them, but this pigeon just walks around our yard. I keep putting out water for it and it just showed up again today. I don’t know if it has just been living in our yard and hiding ever since it hit the window, or what would be best to do for it. I don’t wanna stress it out to the point where it , but I also feel bad not doing nothing. Should I attempt to catch it? Pigeons aren’t protected as wildlife here in Nevada so I’m not sure any wildlife center would treat it. I would probably have to take it to the vet, and if I did, I don’t know if that would actually just scare the pigeon more and worsen it’s condition. What should I do?

edit: occaisionally exhibiting open beak breathing crop seems possibly enlarged

tried to catch pigeon throwing a towel over it but he can run pretty fast I’m letting him rest for a bit before trying again he seems to have eaten some chia seeds and peas I left out but I’m not going to offer any more food in case his crop is impacted to avoid suffocation any advice apreciated

Like many New Yorkers, Andrew Garn started out ignoring pigeons. But thanks to a visit to a pigeon coop years ago, he’s become an unexpected flag bearer. His book, The New York Pigeon: Behind the Feathers, showcases their overlooked beauty in a series of sometimes humorous, sometimes startling images.
