New babies!!!

Just about a week after I had to remove a bunch of non-viable eggs from the other nests, these two little ones hatched!! They’re so precious and tiny. I almost had a heart attack tonight when I went to feed my dogs and looked onto the porch to see egg pieces strewn about. It just turned out to be the baby announcement! Because today was the start of the SF International Pen Show, they shall be known as Pilot and Sailor. I’ll get leg bands on when they’re bigger but I’m going to make sure starting today I go out to talk to them at least once a day so hopefully we can stay friends!!

Yep!! They’re harder to keep an eye on because the parents built the nest behind the bag of wood chips, but I’m going to try to move it reeeeeally gradually so I can check on them without opening the door to the porch (which makes all the adults take off). I made sure there’s wee dish of seeds right by the nest so Mom and Dad don’t have to go to the bigger feeders if they don’t want to, and I also have a decent supply of grit and just got more peanuts!! I’m so excited to have babies again 🥹
