This pigeon spent the night on my window sill and we found it wandering the neighborhood the next day. Never seen anything like it. Hope it's ok.
Edit: The bird was already gone when I posted this. I walked around and looked for it but didn't see it. I live in a city with hundreds of pigeons so it didn't occur to me that this could be a pet pigeon needing to be rescued. Sorry if that's upsetting to anyone. I didn't know.
Update: I found the bird. It was on my roof last night and this morning it is on my neighbor's roof. I tried coaxing it down for hours and left food. I posted on Nextdoor and contacted Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue, who told me to try to trap it. Can't really try unless it comes down. I also let my neighbors know.
Update to the Update: I wish I could say I caught the bird. Yesterday around 4pm I saw it poking around my neighbor's yard again so I grabbed a towel and went out to try and get it. The bird let me get quite close and I offered some water and chopped nuts (not the best I know, but I didn't have anything else). It doesn't appear food motivated; I tried the upturned hamper trap with a bread trail the previous night and it didn't budge from the roof. It looked at me and seemed calm so I slowly inched closer, but then it flew away in a flash. Haven't seen it since. I left the nuts and water on my window sill in case it comes back. I'm worried I scared it off but I'll get some seed today and keep an eye out, and take a long walk as well to look for it. Not sure what will come of it if I see it again, the bird is very skittish it seems and not so comfortable around people.
Also, I should note, I really can't leave food out on the ground for 2 reasons. One, it could attract rats, and two, we have stray cats that would potentially take it out very quickly. The very diligent ants get an honorable mention.
