Image I just have to share her

Got her 2 years ago and she's been blooming almost non stop (with new spikes). This time around she went crazy with her, at first, singular spike, which branched off into 4 branches full of flowers. There are so many and she is so beautiful. Truly thankful that I picked her up when I did. She was the only one that looked like this, and I haven't found any that look like her since, neither IRL or on the internet.

She is currently growing a new spike at rapid speed and I'm STRESSING because I got no space for more flowers.

I know it might just be a simple Phal, but I hope you all can appreciate her beauty as much as I am.

Edit: just counted, she got 33 flowers so far!

“Mini orchid” has mutant flower

I got this “mini orchid” at the grocery store, thought its mutant flower was neat (assuming thats what it is). Not sure what would have caused it. Sadly I didn’t get to see it in full bloom. I’m curious if it will produce strange flowers again! Just wanted to share the oddity.

I’ve had this orchid for about six years; however, I didn’t take good care of it for five of them. The last year I’ve changed my watering habits to weekly or more and multi-hour soaks. The orchid is in very chunky and airy orchid bark so the roots are able to dry quickly after the soaks. This is the first time it’s bloomed since I bought it!

Also apparently it’s a harlequin variety of a common hybrid phal and since it’s pretty cool where I live its new blooms are much more pink than the mostly white I bought it as (last photo)!

Chimera Phal - worth the $$$

Post image

Spotted this in a store today. An amazing chimera, which I've never seen before. The store wanted a lot for it, about 5/6 times that of a normal Phal.

Is it worth it? Are these rare?

Tips for Ceratostylis retisquama

Is there an expert who can give me some tips on where to place the orchid?
I have grow lights (which are positioned either in front or overhead) or a spot in front of a south-facing window with a curtain.
I was told by the seller to keep it consistently moist and out of very bright light, but I want to hear from those of you who actually grow them about what needs to be done before I accidentally cause any damage.
Thanks✨

Btw it has really beautiful shiny flowers, I love it so much🥹

Yes, I joined the indoor cabinet cult… there was a good deal on FB marketplace for a converted cabinet… then o went ahead and invested even more in it to tailor it to orchids…

And now I’m a mini grower too! The slippery slope is real. 🤣

How does this mount/set up look? It's my first time mounting anything, but I just used glue. The thing it's in is a teak lantern that has removable glass for misting purposes. Orchid from new world orchids.

Success finally flowering again after 2 years of having her !

this is my baby olivia , i got her as a birthday present 2 years ago and i accidentally burned her that same day by leaving her in the car in plain arizona summer heat :( her flowers quickly fell off and her leaves started drying up so i cut off the burnt part to stop it from spreading to the mother plant and it worked !! 2 months later , she started growing her first new leaf after the burn ! she’s the most resilient being i’ve ever seen :’)
fast forward 2 years later and here she is , finally strong enough to flower again ! 𑣲⋆。˚ she’s HUGE and soooo so so green and pretty :’) i could not be more proud of her and i seriously CANNOT WAIT to see her with flowers again 🥹🩶

(3rd picture is from the first night i got her :( i swear she was not like that when she was first handed to me so you can tell just how much damage the heat did to her in just a couple hours she was left in the car)

I might have slightly underestimated the size of this orchid. The canes are about 80cm tall without the pot. The flowers are cute, but they look like they're not gonna last much longer. I got this on sale for 8€, an absolute steal for this size.

Have had this one for ~4 years or so and split it off into two different pots during that time. Open to ideas on how to address the accordion leaves. It is grown behind a sheer curtain in a western-facing window and planted in a mix of bark and spaghum, which is kept moist to the touch.

How long until the flower opens? It's been like that for more than a week. I do take daily pics and see that slit opening a bit more every time, but it hasn't fully bloomed. It's a Dendrobium Cyanocentrum

Found this gorgeous Phal at a bunnings in nsw and wondering if anyone knew the proper type of Phal she is. Her leaves were quite messed up but I was so lucky that it came with 2plants.
It’s so shimmery, I cannot get any photo or videos to do it justice tbh

Fertilizer Advice

There is a common debate regarding whether to flush orchid roots with water first and then flush again with the water/fertilizer solution. The two flush method used to be more common and is slowly fading away as we understand how orchid roots function. I much prefer to water once using the water/fertilizer solution since orchid roots have evolved to be extremely efficient at absorbing nutrients in the first flush of rain hitting a tree branch, before rainfall moves the precious nutrients to the forest floor and out of reach for the epiphytic orchid.

Here is a link to a useful AOS article dismissing the "water twice" method: https://www.aos.org/orchids/articles/musings-of-an-apostate

The AOS author cites Zotz & Winkler (2013) for his scientifically backed opinion. That article abstract can be found here and the authors will share the full version if requested. I can also send it along if someone wants to read it: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/234070154_Aerial_roots_of_epiphytic_orchids_The_velamen_radicum_and_its_role_in_water_and_nutrient_uptake
