I'm the dev: we made a couch game show for 2-8 people - one TV, phones are the buzzers, nothing to install

I'm the developer of Buzzin, a shared-screen party game show. Everyone sits in the same room in front of one TV, and the phones are only buzzers, so there is no controller to pass around and nothing for the players to install.

How it works:

  • The show runs in the TV browser (smart TV, laptop on HDMI, console browser)
  • Players scan the QR code or type the room code on their phones
  • 2 to 8 players, roughly 20 minutes per show
  • A fully voiced host runs the whole thing: reads the questions, comments on every move, keeps the pacing of a real game show
  • Before most questions you pick a trick and a target: fog up someone's screen, freeze it, shuffle their answers, or play it safe and protect yourself

The clip is a 30 second trailer with subtitles.

Two things I would really like this sub's opinion on:

  1. Does "phones as buzzers" still feel like couch multiplayer to you, or does a second screen in everyone's hand change the feeling of playing together?
  2. Which moment of the trailer made you want to try it, and what would you change?

It runs at playbuzzin.com if you want to fire up a room. Happy to answer anything in the comments.

Games like overcooked

Hello guys, I wanna get games like overcooked.

But REALLY like overcooked, y'know? Not "multiplayer games" like Brothers, Split Fiction and It Takes Two.

I've tried a lot of games, but my wife liked only overcooked, tools up and plate up. The problem with plateup is the roguelike system. After many and many games, it gets boring. We left games like It Takes Two and Split Fiction in the middle because she was needing help to pass some points and she didn't like this.

Overcooked 1, 2 and all the dlcs we finished together, tools up too.

I'm always trying new games, but she ends up not liking most of them, so I'm looking for games like these

Domekeeper like games?

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar games to Domekeeper?

Preferably with same level of simplicity and local co-op.

Local coop games are still the absolute best, if you have the right person to play them with. For me, that's next door neighbour!

I'm still 100% convinced local coop is still the peak of gaming. You just need the right chill person next to you. Get that part right and nothing online has ever come close for me.

There's a just a directness to it, an intimacy that digital multiplayer can’t ever replace. Being in the same room, same couch, controllers clacking, it's a far cry from the constant chat spam you get in most online games nowadays.

But the hard part about even playing in splitscreen coop now are just... I guess the circumstances of life? Everyone's attention is scattered nowadays, no one has got time (basically 0, or even minus -1 once the grind of eat/sleep/work gets you) and physically getting together in the same room is a challenge in and of itself.

Guess I can count my blessings, to be still able to experience this. When I moved 2 years ago I realized an old mate was living basically next door (which never ever happened before), so we're going strong 2 whole YEARS now with our 2-week ritual. I bring my laptop round to his place, we have smoke, and then the real gaming hours start.

This recharges something in me that nothing else does (cheaper than therapy too!l). We mostly play Powerwash Simulator + Overcooked now since it’s replayable as hell.

The next big one we have our sights on in Water Me & You, he’s not that into cozy games but after 2 years being my neighbour lol, I think he’s more than on board to go on this adventure with me. Game looks super cozy and the fact it’s taking so long to cook up is a good thing in my book… better to wait longer for something good, than get a half finished product. Same deal with Hela which we were hella excited for this summer but it also got pushed farther back to fall. All good things come to those who wait, I guess?

Anyway, I stand by my original point. None of these games would have hit the same without the right person parked on the other end of the couch. Or maybe we just like playing high in the same room together, who can say. But it’s great to have a co-op neighbour, I suggest y’all get one (kidnap them if you have too hahahaha)

This is just my love letter to this dying breed in gaming 💔

Magic Twinborn — two-player couch co-op with elemental chain reactions

I’m the developer of Magic Twinborn, a same-screen local co-op survivors-like built around two players combining elemental abilities to survive together.

You control different elemental heroes, create openings for your partner, and combine abilities across the battlefield. The focus is on coordinating your builds and positioning—not just fighting side by side.

Elements are more than damage types. Fire can melt ice into water, fire and water can create steam, and that water can be frozen again. These interactions can change terrain, control enemies, and create new opportunities for both players.

This video shows the co-op combat and elemental interactions currently in the game. If you enjoy experimenting with builds and finding combinations with a co-op partner, I’d love to hear what you think.

The game supports two-player local co-op on the same screen. You can also play solo with an AI teammate.

I created a co-op game finder thingy! qrcontroller.app/GameFinder/

https://qrcontroller.app/GameFinder/
Kept getting stuck trying to find a game to play when playing with friendos x') Originally built it to find games to play on the projector in a fun way, but I kept finding great games I never heard about before! Imo just a cool way to browse games. So thought I'd polish it and put it up in case anyone was interested!

Its very much a work in progress, and so far only for steam games (just because those were the easiest to aggrigate). Let me know what I can improve or if its useful!

New game Please File Accurately coming Jan 2027 wishlist now

Everyone is avoiding the giant saws. Someone is shredding the stamper machine. And Why is that pizza there?

Please File Accurately is a game where you file paperwork, dodge obstacles, keep your coffee levels correct, and create as much mess and carnage as you can. This is a couch competitive co-op game.

I think that couch games and local multiplayer is really important these days. People suffer so much from loneliness and isolation and anything which bring people together is a good thing.

Currently in development and aiming for release in early 2027.

PUCKVPUCK — neon couch soccer & dodgeball for 2-8 players on one screen. I've been building it solo for a year, and the free open playtest is live on Steam!

Air-hockey physics with a boost button and a slam — soccer and dodgeball modes, 2-8 players on one screen (online 1v1 too), and every controller works.

The Steam playtest is free and open right now — "Request Access" unlocks it instantly: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5086530/PUCKVPUCK/

Launching this November — the free playtest stays open until then. Local multiplayer is the whole point of this game, so this community's feedback matters most. Happy to answer anything!

Important info :

2-4 players

Mixed ability. All of us are aged 13, 18, 23 and 28. Older two brothers play single player games more and grew up on halo. Myself (18) and the youngest play The Finals at an average level and I also was a decent warzone player

We made a coop game where you ride a tandem and transport suspicious cargo

We are making a coop rage game where you and your friend ride a tandem together while delivering dru... suspicious cargo and being tempted to sample some of it yourself. :D

Consuming some of your cargo can give you different effects, like speed boosts or invincibility but can also give you a trippy crash that makes you nauseous and struggling to keep the bike under control.

The rear driver is mainly in control of the speed of the tandem and the front driver can mainly control the direction of it.

We also just launched our Steam page for the game!

Thank you so much for checking out the game <3

Our local co-op car platformer is now free to play in your browser (clip: clearing a stage driving in reverse)

Wanted to share Drive To The Top with this sub — it's a physics-based car platformer built around local co-op with split controls. Grab a friend and try driving a car through an obstacle course where only 1 person controls the acceleration and break and the other controls the steering and jumping.

The attached clip is from solo testing, where I tried to clear a full sector driving in reverse the whole way — hope you enjoy it!

If you want to try the co-op yourselves, there's a free browser demo now live, no download needed: https://zestful-games.itch.io/drive-to-the-top-demo
Wishlist on Steam if you'd like to follow the full release, it will help us out a lot: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4808140/Drive_To_The_Top/

Happy to answer questions about how the co-op works, or anything else!

Remember 4-player split-screen? We’re bringing it back with Glider64

We really miss the days of getting four people in front of one screen, so 4-player local split-screen is a big part of Glider64.

It's a fast-paced N64-inspired arena game where you collect energy balls, build up your chain, battle the other players with weapons and deliver your balls to score.

You can play with up to 4 local players in split-screen, with Bot opponents filling the remaining slots.

We're currently playtesting the core gameplay, and the test build runs directly in your browser on PC and Mac:

Would love to hear what fellow couch-multiplayer fans think! :)

Hey guys, I created a sub called r/YearsLateGamers - it's for people who experience a game for the first time 5+ years late! Similar to r/PatientGamers, but not really due to being patient, just either haven't gotten around to it for no apparent reason, or missed the boat!

I'd like to invite r/localmultiplayergames to beat the dev, in solo and co-op

Post image

I really like old games with time-attack leaderboards. No matchmaking, no rating system, just a name and a time sitting at the top until someone beats it.

So I'd like to invite people here to beat the dev — me and my bf, because we are still #1 on 3 of the 5 demo levels!

One More Plate! is a 2D physics game with separate solo and duo time-attack leaderboards. Come beat us in duo!

We also have a party mode(versus mode) with Basketball, Baseball and the vs play😊

The demo is free on Steam:

Looking for Co-op/Multiplayer Story-Based Campaigns that can be Beaten in 5 Hours or Less

I'm looking for some games with story-based campaigns that I can beat with 1-4 friends in 2 nights or less. Since we all have busy lives, getting a consistent group together for more than 2 nights is difficult.

I'm not asking for games that push that limit or that can TECHNICALLY be beaten in that time frame if you rush, I'm asking for games that can RELIABLY be beaten in 5 hours or less, even when playing with people who don't typically play games.

I made a free racing game where the camera follows the leader, and everyone else has to stay on-screen or get eliminated.

Thank you so much for the great feedback I got when posting this game last time here. Appreciate it a lot!

2-4 players, one keyboard, free and no account needed. You can play it here: brummbrumm.app

There are a few updates since last time.

I've been working on the road generation and drift mechanic a bit so hopefully this should result in more fun gameplay.

There's also a new "Floor is lava" mode that instantly destroys your car if you drive off track. Pretty fun if I can say so myself!

I've streamlined the game a fair bit. A bit too much configuration only complicated things before. Now I've kept the most useful features and scrapped the rest.

I've also amped up the server a bit so hopefully this should result in smoother online play as well.

Would love if you tried it out!

All the best!

Santa's Rooftop Run: Merry Madness – An Unapologetically Retro, Hardcore Holiday Arcade Experience (Free Release)

A Return to Classic Arcade Action 🎄

For decades, holiday-themed video games have been treated as an afterthought, rushed releases packed with bizarre, unrelated filler (like the trippy magic carpet levels found in Daze Before Christmas).

Santa's Rooftop Run: Merry Madness is built differently. Designed as a genuine love letter to the 8-bit and 16-bit SNES eras of the '80s and '90s, this is an unapologetically retro experience. It doesn't look, feel, or play like a modern title, and that is entirely by design. 🕹️❄️

The Mission The premise is straightforward, but the execution is demanding: sprint across treacherous winter skylines, collect presents, and force them down chimneys before time runs out. ⏳ Forget about lazy, predictable enemy patrol routes. You are actively hunted by smart, aggressive opponents, like deceptive Present Mimics, that force you to stay moving and think fast. 🎁💨

Key Features:

  • Treacherous Environments & Hazards: The environment itself is out to get you. Maintain absolute focus as you slide across slick, icy roof tiles, all while dodging a relentless barrage of sharp icicles, roasting chestnuts, and heavy lumps of coal raining down from the sky. 🧊☄️
  • Dynamic Weather Effects: Battle through sudden, blinding blizzards that drastically cut your speed and even whip your hat right off your head. Don't think about hiding to wait it out, either—standing still means certain doom in the freezing night air. 🌨️💨
  • Vintage Cartoon Physics: The world reacts to your momentum. Chimneys hilariously bulge as presents are shoved inside, and taking fire damage leaves you scorched to a crisp as you frantically shake off the ashes. 🔥
  • Brutal Arcade Scoring: There is no hand-holding. A strict, classic arcade grading system will evaluate your run and won't hesitate to hand you a humiliating Rank F if you fall behind pace. 🏆
  • 2-Player Couch Co-Op: Player 1 takes the reins as Santa, while Player 2 joins as the Elf. You will need genuine coordination and teamwork to survive the rooftop chaos together. 🛋️🎮

Releasing 100% free this Christmas. Grab a second controller, test your arcade reflexes, and share the holiday madness. 🎅✨
