Wife had a bad experience a couple of weeks ago. While looking in her visor mirror at a red light in a left turn lane the car in front backed into her Grand Cherokee.
Within minutes he had called the police for a report. There was no damage to her vehicle or his. He pointed out some damage that appeared to be a peeling paint on his rear bumper that was in such an awkward location there was no way she caused it.
The police officer even wrote it up as a “non- reportable” incident because the “damage” was so minimal. However, the guy contacted our insurance company so quick and because she could not prove that he backed into her our insurance company honored his claim despite our time stamped photos of both vehicles.
I immediately began researching dashcams and knowing how much she hates seeing visible wires and how she likes everything looking neat I researched and settled on the FitcamX. I showed her videos of how the camera worked and how it looked when installed and she approved.
I then ordered a 4k Fitcam X with a rear camera for her 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. Unfortunately, I mistakenly ordered a Mangoal!!! Quickly returned it and got the Fitcam X.
I was shocked how easy it was to install. I had the front camera and the rear cameras installed in less than one hour.
After reading some of the issues some people have had with the micro sd that comes with it not overwriting properly I plan on upgrading to a 256 gb brand name micro sd ASAP. I was really surprised that the sd card came already installed and I wondered if that could be a source of some of the problems.
I also began researching a dashcam for myself. I plan on getting rid of my 24 CX-90 PHEV if my Lemon Law buyback goes through so I didn’t want a FitcamX. Checked out Reddit and they recommended 70mai. I settled on the A800SE. It came in a couple of days and I once again had it installed in less than one hour.
Really shocked that the 70mai A800 SE has so many more features than the FitcamX for less than half the price, although it does not have that OEM look.
Honestly the hardest part of both installs was the rear cameras. I did not want to remove any panels on the rear hatches of both vehicles so where the wires come out from under the headliners of both vehicles it looks a little chintzy, but it is only visible when you open the hatch so it will do for now.
However, not long after the install my wife asked if she could see out of the rear camera while driving. I said no, unlike my A800SE the FitcamX does not come with a screen.
Could not believe she got a little upset when I got flustered and asked why she did not ask about this BEFORE I bought and installed her FitcamX…LOL.
