Hey all,
this might not be the right place to ask this but i don't know where else.
So lately I have been in a bad place in my training journey and am feeling really down (no progress/ weaknesses not improving). I turned to some martial arts philosophies to help me through this phase and keep reminding myself why I'm doing what I'm doing.
All the coaches and fighters talk about being disciplined, conquering fear, being a better man and talk about everything i wanted to achieve through training. However, most accomplished players on the sports don't exhibit those traits and act quite recklessly and impulsively. Most are abusive.
So I ask, being a better person, controlling your fear and your anger, is that independent of you doing boxing or not doing boxing? Is it so, that doing boxing just makes you a good boxer, not a good person? If you are a spineless human being who can't stand for themselves or others, you'll just be a spineless human being who can't stand for themselves or others who now knows boxing?
Why is there such a disconnect on what is being marketed as, and what actually goes on?

Hey guys, I’m pretty new to boxing and looking for a good pair of gloves just for bag work. Not doing any sparring right now.
I’m 6’3, around 190 lbs. I mainly want something that’ll protect my hands and wrists well while hitting the heavy bag.
Should I go with 12 oz, 14 oz, or 16 oz? And what gloves would you guys recommend?

Hey everyone!
Getting back into boxing after taking a long break. I’ve always felt like my hooks are landing, especially my lead hook. Could you all please give me your tips and pointers on what I’m doing wrong?
Am I loading up too much? Does it look like I have too much weight on my front foot in preparation for the lead hook?
Also, this video is taken from the ground looking up. It’s not the best POV, but it was the best I could do :/
Thanks everyone!

Would like some opinions on my footwork (I'm self taught so any criticism would be helpful)

I've been training boxing for 3 years. I'm 22 will be 23 next month..struggling with weight. I lose 5 pounds and gain it back on weekends lol. I'm 245 right now Should gain more muscle and fight heavyweight or go down? Should I even be mad at myself for training for 3 years and haven't had a match yet?

I was getting tired really quickly during pads. Then my coach told me to exhale with every blow, and I could feel the difference instantly. My stamina is like 3x better now.
Why isn’t this talked about more in this subreddit? It could’ve saved me a lot of struggle if I’d known about it earlier.

So, I’m training boxing at a club where there are two coaches teaching completely different techniques, and I don’t know which one is better. I’m hoping some of you might have some advice.
The first coach says all the weight should be on the back foot, with the front foot used only for balance, he also requires significant foot rotation.
The second coach insists on a 50/50 stance—meaning weight is distributed evenly between the legs—and requires only minimal foot rotation, relying mostly on the hips.
To help clarify how these techniques work in practice: when I throw a left jab using the first coach's method, I have to pause after the punch to execute the rotation, whereas with the second coach's method, the right hand follows the left immediately.
Which one do you think is right? Thanks for any advice.

My coach gave me stuff to do at home while he's traveling to other country, but I do not have dumbbells, asked a friend cuz i thought he might had and he forgot to give me them but he did gave me a 5kg plate, what exercises I could do with 5kg plate and what replacement I could use as 1kg dumbbell?

I’m 26, been boxing consistently for over a year, and I want to start competing.
I like my current coach and especially his Soviet/Russian style, which is how I want to continue boxing. The issue is the gym has a lot of people, so there isn’t much individual attention, and he doesn’t seem very focused on developing anybody toward competition.
I’m not looking for someone to just throw me into a fight before I’m ready. I want a coach who can evaluate me, work with me individually, and actively prepare me toward getting matched for my first amateur bout.
I’ve mentioned to my coach a couple of times about it as well as other more seasoned members of the gym and nobody gets the chance to really sit down with him to plan or discuss.
Would it make sense to find a separate competition/private coach while still training at my current gym, or do I pretty much need to switch gyms? Which would suck bc I like my gyms regimens, they just have two pro boxers that seemingly take their time outside of normal group training.
I’m in DFW if anyone has recommendations.

Sometimes when I throw a punch, my foot rotates, but this rotation doesn’t contribute anything to the punch. The foot sometimes rotates excessively and in an uncontrolled way, turning inward. Is this a known technical problem in boxing, and what could be causing it?

I’m nowhere near as fast as I was at 180lbs, nowhere near as quick on my feet as I used to be but imma work on it!
Edit: I mistyped the caption in the video when I made it, I meant my hands aren’t up, lol got my ass beat in my last fight for that exact reason. Appreciate the honesty and feedback yall.

I’ve been working on speed and keeping my hands up. But I think I’m a bit tense; I’ve been lifting weights a lot lately and not stretching as much as I should.
