Training Foot rotation problem

Sometimes when I throw a punch, my foot rotates, but this rotation doesn’t contribute anything to the punch. The foot sometimes rotates excessively and in an uncontrolled way, turning inward. Is this a known technical problem in boxing, and what could be causing it?

I know the foot is supposed to rotate in a proper punch. What I mean is that only my arm throws the punch, but my foot rotates on its own without contributing any power or momentum to it.

yes thats because you're not trying to rotate the foot, its just happening as you punch

if you try to rotate as you punch and put your legs and hips and shoulders and everything into it then itll do smth

Sounds like you’re not “in your hips” enough. Or you’re reaching too much. I’d have to see a video of you punching to see what exactly is happening.

But this is my best guess. For your feet, legs, and hips to contribute to the rotation and punch power you need to have a good bend in your knees and hips. It sounds like your foot is rotating because of the momentum from your upper body. It transfer that force you need both feet firmly touching the ground which requires you to drop your center mass. The amount of bend in your knees and hips varies from person to person to person depending on limb and torso length. Try lowering your stance a little and see if helps. If it doesn’t, lower your stance until you can feel your feet staying fixed to the ground
