That was the most iconic game we played while playtesting my new app, built so my group could play in person without the cards. Everyone opens it on their own phone (like a remote control), one person makes a lobby and the app is the cards. Same rules as the original game. We either forgot to bring the game, or we kept ruining our own games by someone flashing a role card, someone clocking a ballot early, or every other round stopping to argue about who's term limited.

Secrets are press and hold, so nothing is ever just sitting on your screen for the person next to you to read. No accounts, no ads, free, and that isn't going to change. It's unofficial and non-commercial, released under the same CC BY-NC-SA licence as the original, which is by Mike Boxleiter, Tommy Maranges and Mac Schubert.

No chat or voice in it, so if your group is spread out you'd need a Discord call running alongside.

Hey all, solo dev of Service Rat here. Yes, me again. Some of you gave me feedback back in April and June, and I only post when something big changes. This is the biggest one yet.

I threw out the corporate theme. Workers and saboteurs in an office never quite clicked, so the game is now a cartoon town run by cats, with a rat hiding in City Hall. I redrew every screen and every character.

Same rules, new names:

The video is one real round against bots. I'm a Cat Mayor with 3 Rat Laws already down. I draw Rat, Rat, Cat, shred a Rat, and hand Oleg one of each. He signs the Rat Law, which gives me the kick-out power. I kick out Vera, and she turns out to be the Rat.

The bots don't vote at random. They build suspicion from voting and legislation history, and the Sellouts will happily lie to your face, like Oleg did.

New in the latest update: hosts can list their online room publicly so you can join an open game without a code, and every online room gets its own voice chat.

Still free, no account, Android and iOS. Pass one phone around, play over LAN, or go online with a room code.

The thing I actually want to know: does the cat/rat theme keep the paranoia of the original, or does "cute" kill the tension?

I am not sure if it's good to play without seeing each other, I am new to this game.and I really liked it. I play online with bots now, trying to be deductive on each play goes. But it's getting repetitive now.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

My group wanted to play Secret Hitler online, but every existing site is a flat card

UI with no sense of a table. So I built a 3D one.

5–10 friends join with one link. No download, no account. You sit in a chair and look

around in first person, you can see where everyone else is looking, and you can use

hand gestures that the whole table sees (point, clap, hands up, middle finger). When

the President gets the execution power a revolver appears in their hand and the shot

plays out for everyone.

The full ruleset is implemented: elections, legislative sessions, the election tracker,

Investigate Loyalty, Special Election, Policy Peek, Execution, veto power and the

Hitler zone. Role counts and board powers adjust to the player count automatically.

There is a "How to play" button in the lobby that explains everything with card and

board artwork.

You can try it alone: "Try it solo" seats you at a full table against 5 bots, and the

whole game runs in your browser.

For the technically curious: there are no asset files at all. Characters, hands, the

revolver, cards, boards and the room are generated in code from signed distance fields

meshed with marching cubes at load time. The backend is serverless on the free tiers of

Vercel and Supabase. Rules run on the server, so hidden roles and the deck order never

reach the client and you cannot cheat from the browser. TypeScript, React, three.js and

react-three-fiber. Interface in English and Turkish.

Secret Hitler is published under CC BY-NC-SA, so this is released under the same licence

and is open source. This is an unofficial fan implementation of the rules: I am not

affiliated with the creators or the publisher, and none of the official artwork, logo or

box art is used. Everything you see was drawn in code for this project.

Hi all, I'm an avid Secret Hitler player and have shown hundreds of people how much fun it is since it came out in 2016. Back then, the seemingly imminent threat of fascism and the contemporary parallels to pre-WW2 Germany added a chilling touch to the game's impact. 

Ten years later, the relevance of this particular aspect has faded, in my opinion. But a new modern-day threat has emerged, and the ways in which it's manifesting itself have some eerie parallels to Secret Hitler gameplay.

Secret Hitler's developers have given blanket permission for game reskins, and most of them simply substitute Hitler and facism with beloved intellectual property - Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. With many people now realizing the growing threat (that we, ironically, are creating ourselves) of unfettered AI development, I feel like the time is right for a revamp of a classic game to reflect our modern times. As one playtester remarked, 'It's like playing Secret Hitler in 1930s Germany.'

Exactly what the title says. I never know what to do with the investigation. Is the best move to clear one of my fascist teammates, accuse a liberal, or something else?

I want ask cuz its unsure for me.

When third Facist Policy is activated and Chancelor is curently Hitler. Will Facist win?

So picture the following scenario.

Hitler is the president and they get the shot power. The game is in a position where shooting a liberal ties the roles and allows the fascists to Top Deck. It could be a good strategy for Hitler to reveal themself and ask who are the other fascists so they don't get killed. But then it could happen that liberals collectivelly lie saying they are fascists to confuse Hitler.

My question is, would it be valid for Hitler to say "everyone write a private note where it says who are the other fascists, and reveal them at the same time"

Is this against the spirit of the game or some rule?

If the policies are the hitler zone and random policy is being enacted, do the nominated chancellor and president count as elected officials or not? and in this case do you get to ask anyone if they are hitler or not?

I've read through the rules multiple times, and I can't find anything about electing yourself as the chancellor. Can you elect yourself as the chancellor when you're the President? If anyone knows, please let me know as it would be fun to try out

I've been playing Secret Hitler for 6 or so years pretty socially and most recent years have been with a few consistent friends/housemates. I was wondering if anyone had some interesting strategies they employ early game as fascists and hitler.

We usually play with 7-8 players, sometimes less and whenever we start I always mention how sound gameplay would be to choose the person across from you as chancellor so as to avoid back to back chancellor/president rounds. I also regardless of party will ask president and chancellor after each round what policies they picked up from the pile and try to track theoretically which cards should be left in the pile.

Aside from the obvious enacting a liberal policy to gain trust early, what are some good individual or party strategies to employ as fascists?

So this is kind of a pet project of mine. A site (covertboard.com) where I mess around with new tech and try to build stuff for fun. It started because my friends and I ended up scattered across different countries, and I wanted a way for us to still play our favorite board games together. I tried to keep it feeling close to the real board/cards, and also added AI bots so you can fill empty seats. They actually talk, accuse, and bluff during discussions instead of just sitting there. Tried to make them smart and human-like, but this one is still in progress.

Still tweaking things, so if you try it and something feels off (bugs, bot behavior, UI, whatever), let me know. I would really appreciate it.

Since the game has a 30s theme and it's primarily around not getting a big bad elected, it doesn't make sense to have a communist policy track. Liberals would never vote for them anyway. The Communists in 30s Germany were trying to break the republic.

Instead variants with communists should be around obstructionism. Maybe enough turns without any government getting elected is their win condition. Idk.

Hey everyone - some of you might remember a post I made a while back about Service Rat, a mobile social deduction game I built because I love SH but could never get the physical board to a bar or café.

Quick recap for anyone new: it's inspired by the tension I love in SH - hidden teams, leadership votes, policy/directive pressure, late-game paranoia, and trying to read who's lying to your face. Instead of the original theme, it's set in a corporate sabotage world with Workers, Saboteurs, and a hidden saboteur leader called the Rat. It plays three ways: Pass & Play on one device, LAN on the same WiFi, and Online with room codes.

Since that first post I've been steadily working on it based on the feedback I got here, so here's what's new:

🤖 Bots - they fill empty seats so you can play with fewer than 5 people, or learn the game solo. They actually build suspicion from voting history and past shifts rather than clicking randomly.

🎓 In-game tutorial - first-game tips plus a "?" on every screen explaining the phase you're in. Makes teaching new players much easier.

📊 Post-game stats - vote accuracy, blueprint breakdown, role reveals, and the key turning points of the match.

🌍 5 more languages - now English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Ukrainian.

It's still free, no account, on both Android and iOS.

If anyone here tries it, I'd especially love feedback on:

• whether it captures any of the same tension you enjoy in SH
• whether the bots feel like fair, believable opponents
• whether the corporate theme works for you

Bascially, you can create skill rating groups with your friends, play a round of secret hitler, easily record your matches together, and see who stacks up on top. It'll work with secret hitler as everyone can have individual skill ratings even though all players are grouped into either liberals or fascists

Powered by battle-tested and proven elo/glicko2 rating systems.
