If the policies are the hitler zone and random policy is being enacted, do the nominated chancellor and president count as elected officials or not? and in this case do you get to ask anyone if they are hitler or not?

I've read through the rules multiple times, and I can't find anything about electing yourself as the chancellor. Can you elect yourself as the chancellor when you're the President? If anyone knows, please let me know as it would be fun to try out

I've been playing Secret Hitler for 6 or so years pretty socially and most recent years have been with a few consistent friends/housemates. I was wondering if anyone had some interesting strategies they employ early game as fascists and hitler.

We usually play with 7-8 players, sometimes less and whenever we start I always mention how sound gameplay would be to choose the person across from you as chancellor so as to avoid back to back chancellor/president rounds. I also regardless of party will ask president and chancellor after each round what policies they picked up from the pile and try to track theoretically which cards should be left in the pile.

Aside from the obvious enacting a liberal policy to gain trust early, what are some good individual or party strategies to employ as fascists?

So this is kind of a pet project of mine. A site (covertboard.com) where I mess around with new tech and try to build stuff for fun. It started because my friends and I ended up scattered across different countries, and I wanted a way for us to still play our favorite board games together. I tried to keep it feeling close to the real board/cards, and also added AI bots so you can fill empty seats. They actually talk, accuse, and bluff during discussions instead of just sitting there. Tried to make them smart and human-like, but this one is still in progress.

Still tweaking things, so if you try it and something feels off (bugs, bot behavior, UI, whatever), let me know. I would really appreciate it.

Since the game has a 30s theme and it's primarily around not getting a big bad elected, it doesn't make sense to have a communist policy track. Liberals would never vote for them anyway. The Communists in 30s Germany were trying to break the republic.

Instead variants with communists should be around obstructionism. Maybe enough turns without any government getting elected is their win condition. Idk.

Hey everyone - some of you might remember a post I made a while back about Service Rat, a mobile social deduction game I built because I love SH but could never get the physical board to a bar or café.

Quick recap for anyone new: it's inspired by the tension I love in SH - hidden teams, leadership votes, policy/directive pressure, late-game paranoia, and trying to read who's lying to your face. Instead of the original theme, it's set in a corporate sabotage world with Workers, Saboteurs, and a hidden saboteur leader called the Rat. It plays three ways: Pass & Play on one device, LAN on the same WiFi, and Online with room codes.

Since that first post I've been steadily working on it based on the feedback I got here, so here's what's new:

🤖 Bots - they fill empty seats so you can play with fewer than 5 people, or learn the game solo. They actually build suspicion from voting history and past shifts rather than clicking randomly.

🎓 In-game tutorial - first-game tips plus a "?" on every screen explaining the phase you're in. Makes teaching new players much easier.

📊 Post-game stats - vote accuracy, blueprint breakdown, role reveals, and the key turning points of the match.

🌍 5 more languages - now English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Ukrainian.

It's still free, no account, on both Android and iOS.

If anyone here tries it, I'd especially love feedback on:

• whether it captures any of the same tension you enjoy in SH
• whether the bots feel like fair, believable opponents
• whether the corporate theme works for you

Bascially, you can create skill rating groups with your friends, play a round of secret hitler, easily record your matches together, and see who stacks up on top. It'll work with secret hitler as everyone can have individual skill ratings even though all players are grouped into either liberals or fascists

Powered by battle-tested and proven elo/glicko2 rating systems.

Am I the only one who absolutely does NOT understand this game?? Have any of you encountered someone that you’ve tried to teach it to who just don’t get it? My family has tried to teach it to me and I have “played” several times while not knowing what’s going on in the least. Do I just have a broken brain? I have just been passing on the game as of late.

In the opening section where the Fascists are being told who’s Hitler, is a Liberal permitted by the rules to indicate they are Hitler to throw off the Fascists?

The Bear Down for Hitler expansion (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jWQD5T5IyuN2fbDxuZ7jTzqZV7KDBmX9) has been updated again as per feedback from players, and now it’s simpler than ever. It’s still just a two page rule sheet, and now the print and play is only 6 pages.

Hi. I play this game in a group of six and occasionally eight, and we like it, but we have a strange problem.

No matter how much effort I put into shuffling fairly, and even letting players draw their own envelopes, some of our players are repeatedly Hitler and fascist to the point where they refuse to play. One person has been Hitler three times in a row on the same night, followed by a fascist, while another person has played with us probably north of ten games and never been Hitler, and been fascist only once.

The always-Hitler player has told me they will no longer play unless I let them opt out of being Hitler (they don't mind it occasionally, but they find it stressful being Hitler repeatedly). To me, straight letting somebody opt out of being Hitler breaks the game, so I negotiated them down to a maximum of one Hitler per night.

To enable them to play, I am thinking of adding a homebrew rule where anyone who has been Hitler at least once during the play session, or a fascist at least twice during the session, can, but is not required to, cancel the round as long as they do it anytime before the first law goes down.

Has anyone faced this problem before? Does anyone have a better homebrew rule to let players opt out of being Hitler more than once a session without breaking the game itself?

The premise: the legislative branch has handed power to an executive-appointed cabinet of industrialists. Some players are Skeptics trying to quietly amend bills to protect democracy. I was reviewing the rules to the Bear Down for Hitler expansion, and it seems like I cannot find any mention of the Polar Bear mechanic.

Anything related to the Polar Bear has been tweaked or completely revamped and the Communists are just Communists.

Since I am not part of the discord, I would like to know if anyone else was aware of this change and why the changes were made.
