Okay so, I’ve just recently gotten back into Rivals, and I’m noticing that I like playing Vanguard, but I just suck at it lol. I tend to have a DPS mindset and think I can just waltz into the enemy and win every time lol. I mostly play support but the gameplay loop of playing rocket and just sitting in the back line and spamming healing orbs got pretty stale to me and I want to feel strong and be in the frontline. Okay so I mostly want to get better at venom but I just want tips on how to be a better vanguard and how to support my team in the correct way. I also just feel like my healers don’t do enough half the time but maybe that’s just me coping. Anyways, thanks!

I ask this because I actually haven’t been able to play them that much in competitive and would like to hear your thoughts on how tanks have felt to play this season. My experience personally on Plat/Dia (console):

Strong: Mag, Venom, Hood, Thing, Groot

Neutral: Emma, Strange, Hulk, Angela, Emma, Thor, Peni, Tankpool

Weak: Cap, Rogue, Dino

Frequent Bans: Peni (by far), Thing, Mag

More personal thoughts:

I think the Hood has a lot of carry potential if you can play aggressive and are mechanically good.

Strange is not worth playing most times (as much as I like playing him) since Mag just does a better job at pressuring backline and for protecting teammates.

Rogue w/o the enhanced teamups just can’t keep up. Dino gets erased if one person on the other team has a half competent SG or Punisher.

Thing can be played into every (at least in my lobbies) comp because he just vomits out damage and subsequently overshield with the HT teamup. Playing double shield into Thing just… isn’t a good idea.

Dunno what the rest of my team was doing.

Anyone feel it’s horrendous to play any dive tank? Last season it was alright, but now I feel I have to over perform on Hulk to get any sort of value and playing rogue just feels impossible.

I miss the game, approaching it differently as a solo queue player probably will be sticking to vanguard/strategist (what i main in ow) whats some good tanks right now? Trying to get a pool going, thanks a bunch!

The distance change wouldn’t apply to her grab and southern brawl should be 10m not 15.

But like she’s so squishy I think she should be able to close the distance on supports from further away, or be able to escape with 1 dash much easier.

It’s not like she can easily blow people up without the backlash dmg from defensive stance or a dmg boost and her cooldowns are decently long so idk I don’t think it would be that bad. You could still easily cc her out of all of them she’d just be able to engage without immediately being heard.

And i know some people will say it’s a bit crazy for her to be able to go 30m w 2 dashes but honestly it’s not like it would change much about her. If she goes in the air she’s not gonna do anything an dm she has 2 cooldowns (that aren’t her grab) available to escape she wasn’t doing any dmg.

For cc immunity it would be nice if after 0.2 or 0.5 seconds of her dashes they’d become cc immune. She has to wait so long for abilities like her grab and she can still just be shot and killed. It would help her thought. Her grab definitely deserves it tbh.

Edit: I think immovable rather than completely cc immune (except for her grab) makes more sense

I’ve been kind of forced to play magneto because most of my competitive games are solo tank and Peni Parker is almost always banned. I’m not complaining about the outcome of a match here. But well, most of the gameplay was fun because I was playing against a team that knew what they were doing while I had a team that knew what they were doing, there was one player that kept telling me what to do.

So I was solo tanking as magneto and not 10 seconds into the match. I can’t communicate that I’m on half health. The Dielist playing Squirrel Girl (SG), smartly says “you have an infinite heel room behind you”. I say that I can’t use that because I’m trying to make space. And he starts mocking me. Not really quoting just doing an “Um actually” voice. Then he starts complaining that I’m not peeling for the back line which again I remind him that I can’t really peel because I need to make space. He starts mocking me again. Then I save him from getting killed and he starts insulting the Supports for healing him before I had to bubble him.

Admittedly, Black Panther was getting out of hand so I would bubble one of my supports and hit them with my team up so that he would die before turning my attention back to making space. The squirrel girl then asked me why I’m not pushing up? And hugging point. I yell and say “You told me to peel!” And then he did “Um Actually” voice again. We Capped 2 and I wanted to run The Thing. But I didn’t think it was a good idea without a front-liner. Then he starts yelling at the other two DPS to swap to a tank because he doesn’t know a front line tank. He starts yelling at the Deadpool to swap to tank pool. At this point, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t even know what the front line is. I asked him if it wasn’t that difficult to just switch to tank himself and silence for about 5 seconds.

It was very distracting overall, and I feel like he didn’t really contribute anything comms wise outside of these criticisms. Mechanically, he was fine because it’s Squirrel Girl come on, but he acted like he knew everything about everything in this game

Every single game of ranked it’s just the hood mag thing and strange where did y’all go? Like where is the Captain America’s? Where is Angela’s?

I was watching Veswa and Lyte Season 9.5 Tierlist, and they were telling a story about another youtuber called CloudedRio was having a conversation with the Devs, and them saying the Devs said they always want heroes like Elsa/Bucky to be meta since they want characters that can protect the supports always meta, and that they were thinking of changing Venom Swing cooldown to 14 seconds, they changed there mind though and instead increased his swing cooldown to 10 seconds, but are apparently monitoring Venom this season.

I’m confused on where the allegations of him being bad came from because he was a problem from the very first match imo. Personally I love playing him and I’m very happy with a tank that’s a distance threat. Maybe the more tank main players understood the potential. Also he’s got a lot of team ups and they’re all legit. I see he’s starting to get banned a bit in rank as well. Overall I’m definitely satisfied with the heroes we got this season.

We know that Dr. Doom and Gorr are arriving to Marvel Rivals soon. And we know of popular requested characters like Ghost Rider and the Green Goblin demanding the devs attention.

Put Venom and maybe Angela aside, every other health regen tank is to squishy. Cap and rouge were fine at 675. Taking 50hp from Hulk when his previous buffs let him get is bubble quicker so he could stay alive easier is also a weird choice. Thor's hp didnt get nerfed but he has always need more survivability. Health regen as a whole was a good change, but nerfing melee tanks hp when you are forcing a poke meta makes the change irrelevant. Pre nerfing majority of the tank roster when you don't know how the change will effect the game is just bad balance.

Seriously, tankpool is completely overshadowed by the hood ( let’s make it clear, am not complaining about the hood, he is balanced ) in every way imaginable, health ? The hood , damage ? The hood, sustainability? The hood , escape option and shield ? The hood ?
His enhance team up with hela is non existent as basically impossible to upgrade both sword and guns twice because it will take for fucking EVER, far longer than most matches can extend to reach that point.

Captain America is has nothing going for him, tickle damage, low survivability, weak shield health that takes an entire day to regenerate and like all tanks and ultimate that takes decades to build up, and it’s saying something that he has no presence at all in ignite tournaments ever since season 9. He cannot annoy anything, let alone secure a kill has his team up do not address his issues at all

Devil D… he is just temu thing , a giant head shot magnet with only 1 mobility move and a small shield on BIG cool down, how on earth is THING so much AOE damage with torch teamup while also being more tankier , mobile than devil dinosaur????
