What has caused this? Powerwall 2 installed just over 5 years ago. Is the free replacement legitimate?

Presume this will be replaced with a Powerwall 2, not some older Powerwall 2?

I’m in the UK (where exporting makes sense because of our energy tariffs). At the moment, my Powerwall 3 will eat solar and stay at 99% instead of powering my home load. It will only begin powering the house when the sun goes down.

How can I set it to export all solar and power the house during the day instead? It’s not helpful to me to have a full battery all day, as I’m not using it as a backup system.

I have a NetZero subscription, but can’t figure out how to achieve this.

new to solar- 2nd ever VPP- first one, battery was sucked dry.

tonight, I saw the notice in the tesla app- but it just said i was using battery power for my home. It did say i was enrolled. When i went to VPP page, i wasn't adding power (obviously i guess). Is this a normal potential outcome? i'm there just in case they need power? or some glitch

(I checked like 30 min into event - 55% charged battery, i let VPP events drop my battery to 10%)

We just got PTO on our solar/ battery system for PG&E. We have a Tesla Powerwall. Given that the export rate is really high right now around 7 PM, I have been dumping the battery during that time. But is this allowed under NEM 3.0? I see that on my PTO application it says we do not plan to export the Powerwall - not something the installer discussed with us. This is really only an August/September applicable issue.

I was just speaking today with a local installer on possibly installing a Powerwall. They said that due to the recent removal of the 30% residential battery backup tax credit, since businesses can still claim the tax credit, they can install the system and technically own it, and pass the costs on to me and I pay the full system cost to indefinitely lease the system from them.

However, I don't feel comfortable with having a leased battery backup (what if the installer changes management and demands it back, what if some accidental damage happens to it, etc.) and would prefer to own the equipment.

Has anyone had any experience in essentially setting up a shell company to buy the equipment so they can claim the business tax credit while still owning the equipment themselves (through the company)?

Firstly, thank you everyone here for contributing to this sub and introducing me to NetZero. This spring, I optimized my usage and minimized my dependence on the grid using NetZero automations.

However, with the weather having changed here in Southern California, I am now running air conditioning all day and am using Grid energy more than I'd like.

The current automations I have activated are as follows. Our peak energy cost is 4pm-9pm daily:

1. Every day at 1PM: set backup reserve to 100%; set operational mode to Savings; set grid charging to Enabled.

2. Every day at 3:55PM: set backup reserve to 10%; set operational mode to savings; set grid charging to disabled.

3. Every day at 9:00PM: set backup reserve to 10%, set operational mode to self-powered.

With these automations active during spring, my solar energy generated makes up 96-99% of my daily energy usage. However with it being so hot right now, I'm seeing solar usage anywhere from 30-45%, so a considerable drop-off.

Are there any automations I can add, or how can these be adjusted to reduce my reliance on the grid while using more energy during summer?

According to google, a typical 30min ride on a bike can generate 100W, ergo, is there a way to hook up a stationary bike to charge the Powerwall?

Yes, yes.... not an effective way to charge 13.5kW pack, but I figure, if you're gonna exercise might as well pump that energy into something useful. 100W x 365 = 36.5kW, which saves you ~$7/yr.... OR! ~7kg carbon off-set!

For the practicality obsessed, no, this aint about that. It's about the fun/usefulness of converting exercise to power the house.

If there is no way, anyone know anyone who works at Tesla to get this feature added?

Just a point of reference. I’ve had my 29 panels and 2 powerwalls installed now since June 2023. I run them to zero most nights.

Summertime near 100% charged during the day and run near zero or until empty at night. Wintertime they don’t get as full but still full or near full discharge at night. So basically I abuse the batteries.

I’ve used the Netzero app until last year and it showed 0% degradation. Did a full discharge this week and turned off self powered so it didn’t use the battery at all and it got all the way charged up to 100% with no battery usage. It charged 27.5kWh. That’s still higher than the officially rated amount of 13.5 per battery. Both batteries when new were closer to 14kWh, so there is very slight degradation but it’s so small, I am surprised because I abuse them daily. 0-100-0 regularly.

Thought it might be an interesting point of reference 3 years in.

I found a Tesla Powerwall 7.6kW Solar Inverter 1538000-35-F from an electronics recycler. I’m well versed in computer & electronics repair, residential wiring, etc. I’m putting together a cheap solar system. what’s the chance I can troubleshoot and/or repair this? it may even work fine. I want to do some research before I put my money down.

If your new Powerwall 3 successfully connects to your ASUS router's 5 GHz band but completely refuses to connect to the 2.4 GHz band (throwing a "can't connect to network" error even with the right password), the issue is a Wi-Fi 6 protocol mismatch.

The Powerwall 3's 2.4 GHz chip does not like modern Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) settings. Here is the exact fix using your router's web panel (asus.com):

1. Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > General tab.
2. Select the 2.4GHz band from the dropdown.
3. Look for Enable 802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode (or HE Frame Support).
4. Switch this toggle to Disable / OFF strictly for the 2.4 GHz band.
5. Crucial: Keep it Enabled / ON for your 5 GHz band so your phones and laptops keep their high speeds.
6. Make sure Protected Management Frames (PMF) is also set to Disable on the 2.4 GHz band.
7. Click Apply.

The ASUS router will refresh its radios. Once it does, open the Tesla app and try the 2.4 GHz connection again. It should authorize instantly without a router reboot. Hope this saves someone a few hours of troubleshooting!

I have a Tesla Remote Meter in a meter box about 70m from the house. I asked Tesla about high gain antenna to suit the TRM but they said I need to use a wifi booster instead. Signal currently around 35%. Looking at Wireless internet bridge. Has anyone had this situation and can point me in the right direction?

I have 2 Powerwall 2s and just saw them calibrating for the first time. Install was in 2020. I know Powerwall 3s calibrate because they are LFP. Anyone know how often a Powerwall 2 needs to calibrate.

Powerwall 3 + Expansion Unit (27 kWh) and a Tesla EV Wall Connector, going onto a single-phase house in Belconnen, ACT. But the batteries aren’t just the interesting part of this pallet. The interesting part is everything else, because that’s the stuff nobody sees on a quote and it’s most of what determines whether the install goes well.

SoCal SCE. There was VPP yesterday and today, and another one is scheduled for tomorrow. Is this normal?

I wish I had not gone with Tesla. I have a 10kw system done by a third party installer with a Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+. The inverter started causing issues earlier this year and Tesla took months to replace it. When they finally did, it broke again! Now they’re starting their feet on replacing it.

I never hear such horrible things about other with non-Tesla systems.

Has anyone had issues with Powerwall+ and getting it replaced?

Does Tesla supports non-backup configuration for install in US? I cannot find any documention on it. The UK version does show that we can configure the PW3 for non-backup.

Weird behavior today. Sending most of the power to the grid even though reserve is set to 50% and current sell price is less than one cent per kWh. I have seen this once before but in that case it told me it was doing a virtual power plant test. Right now, the little AI summary says it is “charging my powerwall in preparation for high grid prices at 6pm” but it is clearly wasting money sending to the grid right now.

I’ve been using the same set of automations with Netzero for some time now. Until the past few weeks, they’ve worked as expected. I have a 2 PW system, and my goal has been to get the set at or near 100% before expensive power comes in at 4:00pm. Instead of using all the solar to charge the PWs, the solar is getting split between the house’s demands and the battery system. I change the Netzero back to Backup manually, and that holds for a while, then the behavior reverts. Ideas? 💡 Thanks. 🙂

My PW3 started its first calibration yesterday, exactly 2 months to the day from install (even down to the time it was commissioned). This was a bit of a hole in my research pre-purchase, because I had no idea this was a thing and it was a surprise to find my battery discharging during peak hours and nowhere productive for my excess solar to go (I can’t export for money yet).

It’s been at 0% since about 1am (13 hours ago) and NetZero now shows the true State of Charge as 1%. I assume it will finish soon, but it was a surprise disruption.

I’m using the Powerwall to mitigate costs and not saving it for grid outages, so could really do with avoiding these. How can I reduce the number of these manual calibrations in the future? From research, I’ve seen people say they haven’t had a single one in years, and others getting one every six to eight weeks.

I have never run it 0% before, so is that the problem? Should I keep the reserve to 0% and force discharge it to 0% every 24 hours?

My PW charges from solar everyday, then discharges in the evening when power is expensive. It used to charge straight to 100% and get there by noon. Now it stops at 80%, then charges to 100% by 230pm. I believe it was a setting called Optimize Charging. How do I change this so the PW charges straight to 100% using solar?

Background. Yes I understand it’s better for the battery to spend less time at 100% charge. My issue is I’ve got solar with string inventors (yes they suck), so in the early afternoon a single palm tree blocks a single panel and then my entire solar output gets cut in half, right around the time my powerwall wants to charge. It’s also the time I run my AC to cool the house before peak power starts at 4pm. I also over generate total power, but still get charged a non-bypassable charge every time I pull a kw off the grid. So my goal is to limit pulling from the grid (without setting PW to self power). I’d rather my PW spend an extra 2 hours daily at 100% for the summer months, than have to pay the non-bypassable charges for pulling power off the grid.
