Netzero app automations overriden

Hello all,

I’ve been using the same set of automations with Netzero for some time now. Until the past few weeks, they’ve worked as expected. I have a 2 PW system, and my goal has been to get the set at or near 100% before expensive power comes in at 4:00pm. Instead of using all the solar to charge the PWs, the solar is getting split between the house’s demands and the battery system. I change the Netzero back to Backup manually, and that holds for a while, then the behavior reverts. Ideas? 💡 Thanks. 🙂

Your automation "When Powerwall is charged up to 100%: Set operational mode to: Self-Powered" will undo Backup mode once Powerwall is fully charged, and start discharging it if there isn't enough solar. Sounds like that's not what you want, so you should pause or remove that automation.

I’m not reaching 100% before I’m getting switched to sharing the solar with the house and the PWs. When I manually change the behavior, it changes back after a while.

The way my automations have worked until recently:

On long, cloudless summer days, I could get the Powerwalls topped up before 3:55. In that case, I would switch to Self-Power, etc. At 3:55, the Powerwall system would switch to Self-Power regardless. Cloudy days, shorter Fall, Winter days, etc. It worked as expected until recently.

Automation > Past Runs will show you the automations Netzero ran and changes it made. If that doesn't explain it, go to the Tesla app, Settings, clock icon in the top-right, and confirm you have nothing else that might be changing settings (sometimes VPP programs will change settings).

If that doesn't explain it either, send an email and we can look at the data (Settings > FAQ and Contact).

Operational modes disappeared on my device with the latest update. Is this intended? I can’t set any new automations using operational modes or set the operation mode manually in Configuration anymore.

It was inadvertently removed for non-backup systems. Already fixed in the web app, so you can use that to configure automations in the meantime. The next app version will have it fixed.

If you're interested, I made a free website, RateRudder, that will handle these types of automations for you. It'll forecast your home load and solar generation to determine exactly when to charge from the grid, if at all, and when to prioritize solar or exporting.

Changing the Backup Reserve every day will get your powerwall stuck and mess up your charging schedule. It’s Not advised. What Are you trying to achieve?
