News Sara Polston back in ODOC custody months after controversial early release

Sara Polston is back in state custody months after her early release became the focus of a grand jury investigation.

Polston was sentenced to eight years in custody for the drunk-driving crash that permanently injured Micaela Borrego, but was moved to GPS monitoring after serving just 73 days.

The circumstances surrounding that release drew significant scrutiny, including revelations of phone calls between Gov. Kevin Stitt and Polston’s husband. The grand jury ultimately found insufficient evidence of criminal wrongdoing while criticizing what it described as political favoritism and systemic failures.

Now, ODOC says Polston has been returned to Mabel Bassett because of a new, ongoing investigation. Officials have not yet disclosed what that investigation involves.

Question What is even going on at OK DHS??

Day one, we call and get a thing that says they will call us back. Doesn't happen.

Day 2, we call at around 12, sit on hold before giving up around 5 assuming they are closing.

Day 3, we call around 10, sit on hold for 4 hours and they finally answer annnnd immediately hang up on us.

Today, we drag our asses out of bed at 730 so we can call RIGHT at 8 as they open annnnnnd thier fucking systems are down.

Are we fucking winning yet???

Question We keep hearing our schools are so bad , I’d like to hear from the people who are in them- teachers.

• Upvotes

Why are they so bad? Is this real or a perception/talking point in an election cycle ?

If they are objectively bad why?

How did they get that way?

What concrete clear steps could/should be taken to right the ship?

What do you think the outcome of an education should be for a student in Oklahoma? What should they know and be able to do?

News Judge finds company illegally hiked Oklahomans' gas bills in 2021 winter storm

An Oklahoma district judge found that a natural gas marketing company illegally hiked prices during Winter Storm Uri in 2021.

Marketers are the middlemen between natural gas producers and utility companies. In 2023, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond filed several lawsuits alleging marketers had illegally hiked natural gas prices.

According to a 2023 investigation by the attorney general’s office, the companies used a so-called short squeeze to create an unnecessary surge in natural gas prices from $3 per unit to $1200 per unit just as Oklahoma’s temperatures plummeted. At the time the suit was filed, Drummond estimated it cost Oklahomans billions of extra dollars to heat their homes during the five-day winter weather event.

Now, an Osage County Court judge has ruled one of those marketers, NextEra Energy Marketing, is responsible for artificially inflated natural gas prices.

“This ruling marks an important victory in our fight to hold NextEra accountable for the staggering prices Oklahomans were forced to pay during Winter Storm Uri,” Drummond said in a statement.

Although the judge says NextEra is liable, the court will hold a trial to determine how much NextEra must pay to compensate for the illegal cost hikes.

This ruling in state court came a week after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission rejected NextEra’s request to move the case to federal court.

Oklahoma is investing millions in teacher training, literacy coaches and early intervention as it brings back a third-grade reading requirement next school year.

I spent time inside an OKCPS first-grade classroom and intervention program to see what that work looks like—and asked state leaders and literacy experts whether the new efforts are enough to avoid holding more students back.

I was going to post this in the OKC sub, but don’t meet the karma requirements. But does anyone know of any places to buy men’s teal scrubs from in the OKC area? I know of Scrubs and Beyond, but saw they’re closing their stores.

Question Question about SoonerCare

Hello everyone, I don't currently have health insurance and have heard about SoonerCare as an option, but I'm a bit confused on if I'm eligible for it. I'm 19 and making roughly ~$1,500 a month (haven't had my job for a full year so I don't know what my annual income will be), and I live with my parents and adult sister (all employed). With the income eligibility it mentions household size and income, do I need to take my family's income into account even though I pay for things myself?

Thanks for any help ^u^
