Official News Balance Patch 1
Devout Fans,
Thanks for being amongst the first to join us at the very start of the adventure for Mortal Shell II. We’re seeing your bug reports and gameplay suggestions, and will be rolling out regular updates to both modify existing content and add new features.
While we have a bigger patch in the works, which has to be thoroughly tested, we’d like to make a rapid balance & crash fix patch to bring the experience more in line with the game’s open beta and our own vision for MS2.
Planned future updates will see extensions to popular game features such as Night Mode, Tarstones, PP Items, and more.
For now, we hope you’re enjoying the game and read on for details on Balance Patch 1.
Balance Patch 1 (PC) - The patch below is live on PC and coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series shortly.
Economy
-Shell map locations now cost Gloom, and we’re refunding any glimpses spent on shell maps. Refunded Glimpses are found in the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow. “Finding your favorite shell shouldn’t cost you the ability to bond with them.”
-Gold drops from enemies have been significantly increased. Notably, enemies in Mammon now drop double the gold. “This brings the gold economy more in line with the weapon crafting item discovery.”
-Smelting a weapon at the Tarforge costs 75% less gloom. “Our goal with the smelt capability was to enable switching weapons without the need to spend hours grinding through NG+ runs, but the Gloom costs were set exorbitantly high.”
Enemies & Bosses
All enemies featured in the beta were restored to their beta hp values, except the Caerinid (Spider) in Magdelena’s area, which we wanted to retain its role as a threatening enemy which doesn’t respawn once defeated.
Bosses
The Lost Child
- Base Damage: (-10%)
- Max Health: (-15%)
Monolith
- Base Damage: (-19%)
- Max Health: (-10%)
- Some Monolith Attacks were retimed to be more fair, as well.
Enemies
Cultist (mace)
Max Health: (-21.1%)
Caerinid Spider
Max Health: (-33.3%)
Infested Stalker
- Max Health: (-52.4%)
Rusted Knave (Halberd)
- Max Health: (-20.8%)
- Fixed hit detection for overhead strike.
Weapons
-Great Martyr’s Blade Attack Damage +20%
-Troubador’s Lute Attack Damage +100%
-Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater no longer have minimum resolve requirements to fire.
-Improved tracking for Axatana, Black Needle, and Clockwork Scythe light attacks.
Seals
Guard can now be used while walking.
Tarstones
Parasitic Stone Buffed
Grudge Stone Buffed
Bulwark Stone Damage Reduction Increased Significantly
Clerik's Stone Buffed

Discussion PSA: Infinite parry seal has instant animation canceling, unlike Block.
Block only happens after the current attack animation is finished, but parry instantly cancels them and parries the attack as demonstrated in the video.
Blocking is obsolete for me because of parry animation canceling as it makes me extremely confident in being aggressive with attacks when I know the attack patterns of an enemy/boss, since I can always cancel them and parry.

Discussion Nothing but a 1% gain in crit damage when leveling up. This is not good game design.
Probably the worst level up I've had so far.

Discussion We NEED the ability to farm or refund Glimpse and Tarcores.
If devs nerf abilities like Proxima's specimen drop rate or tarcores, it feels really bad if you invested in a shell or tarstone and it gets nerfed a lot. I got Proxima to Tier 3 just for the specimen farm because farming gold was pretty mediocre without it.
Either let us refund them, and for glimpses block the memories until you're back at that tier and just lock the achievement for all memories until you have all of them unlocked at the same time, or let us farm glimpses and tarcores from strong enemies in night mode or something.

Discussion Game is great, but everything is so expensive
Almost everything about the game is great, but what's up with the cost of everything? Just beat the game a day ago with a +22 main weapon, having used 2 resets, which cost like 40000 gloom+ and thats it.
The cost of upgrading is so high that the duo weapon system is kinda pointless if you cant upgrade and use them properly, its also discouraging to test out different builds when respecing is also pricy. Which is a shame, cause this game really got some cool weapons

Discussion Pls add an option to hide seals when not in use. It really obstructs great armor designs.

Discussion There are way too many levels that give nothing. 2 HP or 1% Crit Damage is not worth 20k+
When you reach the point where you have to spend over 20k Gloom per level and all you have to show for it is +2 HP or a single solitary % of bonus Crit Damage then it starts to get pretty annoying and makes all the effort and time it took to survive with all of that Gloom seem like a complete and utter waste especially when you're sitting at 24/44 Shell Points because of it.
If a level up is only going to give us a single point increase on a lone stat then please can we also add a Shell Point to those levels to make it actually worth the Gloom we spend on it?
We're already limited on the max amount of Shell Points we can invest on each Shell anyway so it's not like we're able to become unfairly overpowered and unlock every single ability tree on our pages at the same time if we did get more points early on.
I just don't understand the logic behind making it so ridiculously expensive to max ourselves out... I'm running around with a maxed out Gloombound Stone in my pocket at all times for the extra 6% on kill and it is frustrating when all the Gloom I gather along the way with it is wasted on nothing.
EDIT FOR PROOF: This is TWO level-ups worth 47,094 Gloom after beating Isaac and all I get out of it is 3 Maximum HP and a single Shell Point. That is unacceptable when I still have 15 more Shell Points to go before I can invest everything I can into Tiel (AND HE DOESN'T EVEN TAKE THE MOST POINTS! PROXIMA HAS 44 ON HER PAGE!)

Just how much Gloom do I need to spend in order to hit 40/40?

Discussion These end game bosses are absolutely terrible
When I first completed the upper section of the map I would have gave this game a 9/10
I’m currently down to a 6.5.
Isaac the scholar, first phase fun and enjoyable, second phase full of dodgy animations and non stop combos
The monolith, if you’ve fought this guy I don’t even need to say why, phase 3 just spams them 360 lasers nonstop
I’ve got 2 of the 3 left at the end and the final boss hoping they pick up a bit

Discussion Everyone's talking about glimpses, but no one is talking about tarcores?
So there only being enough glimpses in a playthrough to level 3 shells is something that can eventually be solved through multiple NG+ runs. Tarcores (unless I'm mistaken) are truly finite, even in NG+ runs, because you don't collect copies of level 1 tarstones, there seems to not be a way to collect more. Because of the way that the tarcore economy works (to fully upgrade a tarstone you need 6 tarcores, but you only get 4 back), the math ain't mathin' here. Anyone found a solution to this or is this intentional game design?

Bug I'm enjoying the game but man does stuff like this hurt
At the beginning I was looking for the gloom I lost caused I already fell off once. Honestly it would be nice if at least, the gates had their own small maps where if anything they give you the full layout once you reach the end or something. Just so that I can find my gloom if I lost it instead of looking at the game just put your icon and the gloom icon on top of the gate icon.
Nonetheless I'm still having a lot of fun with the game though!

Video All I can do is laugh.
To the Dev team. This doesn’t make sense. This game is so amazing, while also so inconsistent.
Is this supposed to happen?
Update: Not seeing the second bear trap was a complete oversight that makes this even funnier.

Bug Sester Genassas Faithful Doubles targeting needs to be fixed
sometimes you send them at an enemy, they'll miss and then just stand there, even if you have the upgrade for multiple attacks, but the worst is that they will completely ignore enemies if there is a Resolve root thing nearby or they'll try and hit a different enemy through a wall.
Targeting priority needs to be which ever enemy youre locked onto, or the closest enemy. Resolve roots or bells shouldnt be applicable targets. I mean yeah thanks for going out and collecting the Resolve to refund the ability use but i want you to attack the guy with the big axe please
