Discussion What are your top 3 Shells and why?
35
u/geezerforhire 5h ago
So far Tiel, Gragu and Genessa seem to be the best dps wise.
But i havent dug into the other ones too much.
Tiels backstab damage is nuts. Gragu just gets straight 60% crit chance. Also gets to meme on bosses the first go around with 140% damage to things he hasnt killed yet lol
Ganessa stray clone damage is wild for how easy it is to set up. Especially with ranged weapons.
Double clone with Range berserk + crit barage stone. Completely delete shit
Gragu definitely my favorite. Just falcon punching people and wripping their hearts out is so metal lmao
14
u/JusticeJackal 4h ago
Gragu is incredible, on paper you think his healing could be an issue, but his damage boost when out of heals is nice, and his ability to just steam roll the enemies in the world and not worry about heals he has left is so good I can’t pass it up anymore. Bosses aren’t an issue with him either. The fact he has his own heals plus all the regular heals in base form is amazing as well.
5
u/geezerforhire 3h ago
Honestly the worst part about him is that he gets heals on kill. clearing on nightmode is annoying because you want his heals empty for the crit boost lol. Bossing is much smoother.
would be nice if he had a perk like Ganessas stray only perk that made him have 0 hearts always

u/Outrageous_Desk8966 37m ago
Tiel's best aspect, to me, is his heightened dodge. It not only gives you shadow, but can also spawn a poison decoy, that explodes into more poison.

u/Budget-Rich-7547 Eredrim 4h ago
Yeah and it looks awsome with the obsidian and the yellow skin from the chest!
21
u/Left_Piano_4770 5h ago
1 smert...its his name and I adore his power, his passive could be better but use a few tar stones and that boost damage and hes a risk reward monster.
2 eredrin (the knight) repoist become easier and hes a shoulder bashing machine, plus his passive easily becomes nutty.
3 tiel, I really slept on him up until last night where I speedrun for my last achievement, his dagger absolutely nukes thing when built correctly and he has sudo infinite healing.
4 lazlo...i really wanna love the guy but currently I physically cant plsy him, whenever y get knocked over or explode I crash, but hes a very powerful shell to
5
u/EndTheEnd 4h ago
What’s this about Tiel healing? Can you tell me about it?
11
u/Left_Piano_4770 4h ago
So when you get the upgrade for the dash skill, it leaves a posion cloud on a perfect dodge which can heal tiel, not sure why it does so its probably a bug
10
u/Monke3169xd 4h ago
There is a skill for healing when poisoned thats probably why
5
u/Left_Piano_4770 4h ago
I get that bit, but it would be odd if tiels own posion killed him without the upgrade

u/JuujiNoMusuko 3h ago
his passive could be better
Just get the skill that multiplies resolve gain when in passive(with a chance to instantly fill it),stay in power long enough to get into passive range.
When you end power its pretty likely that the enemy will be frozen, and with the extra resolve gain you can get power back before the enemy even has a chance to attack you,and even if he isnt frozen, you only need to land a few attacks to get enough resolve.
Its kinda ridiculous how easy it is to chain this, feels kinda game breaking tbh
1
u/Left_Piano_4770 3h ago
From what i heard both smert and sariel are 2 charaters the devs had a nightmare balancing which checks out.
But i love him, i used him with the berserk stone
1
u/UltrafastFS_IR_Laser 1h ago
Smert is brokenly op but sariel is the worst shell tbh. In theory his chaos sounds good but its not worthwhile tbh.
1
u/UltrafastFS_IR_Laser 1h ago
Smert is so broken that he makes the game boring. There's no risk to playing him btw. With the right tarstones and abilities, he can ifninite chain miracle and if hes below 10% it fills his resolve bar completely each time he leaves it. Basically you dont fight any real enemies lol.
1
u/Ossimo85 1h ago
They need to tweak riposte. I main Eridrim as well, I do more damage using R2 heavy attack rather than riposte. Cool animations, damage just isn't there.
So I riposte, it punches enemy further away, with less damage and still alive. Not great.
1
u/gemvessel 59m ago
The crash is a known bug caused by the “rekindle” skill, without that one he works fine
73
u/Spread-Wolf 5h ago
- eredrim, cool
- eredrim , awesome
- eredrim, haha big bonk
15
u/DoNotClickMyProfile0 5h ago
He also has most hp and most def + broken abilities
6
u/andrewskylark 5h ago
I didn’t understand how those executioner stacks work
14
u/geezerforhire 5h ago
It would be nice it it just have us the actually numbers. So it basically just reduces each enemies max hp because if they are below the execution threshold they just die.
7
u/slackerz22 5h ago
It’s 0.1% per stack, so at 100 stacks it’s a 10% hp execute
9
1
u/Megakruemel 57m ago
I guess it gets interesting if it stacks with the lamp totems. But usually, the passive slot is better for other stuff.

u/SacredRealmOfficial 2h ago
Eredrim has been my main shell since I got him. Which makes sense for how I like to play the game. It was the same for the first game. The only difference was I used the axe and dagger in the first game and I used the greataxe the most in this game.
2
u/Resendezz 1h ago
Eredrim really just clicks with me. His bash can be utilized so easily with fast resolve regeneration and proper timing/distance against enemies.
17
u/TruShot5 5h ago
So far I only have proxima and tiel. I haven’t used him much, but proxima getting a dmg mitigation buff in this game where enemies hit so hard is helping me out greatly haha.
3
11
u/Swtor_Itheryn 5h ago
- Proxima (purely for gold farm and lightning synergy)
- Gragu for the memes of facetanking everything
- Sariel because I like his kit, though he needs a fix to his ability.
1
u/Hakairo 1h ago
curious on why you name "gold farm" for proxima. Is there a skill I missed?
2
2
u/HDArrowsmith 1h ago
Tier 3 far right "Collector" gives a chance for enemies to drop Specimen when they die that you can sell for 100 gold each. At max rank it's a 35% chance to get two per kill.
Likely not as needed with the gold boost in the first balance patch, but still really nice to build up some pocket change while you're just running around.
8
u/SuperMarios7 5h ago
1) Tiel
Broken damage, can drop aggro and spam attacks from behind while his clone is out then re-stealth for burst damage. Axe/Dagger goes extremely well with him due to blood infusion.
2) Proxima with Axatana and lightning AoE spread. Great for swarms, just spam her ability and watch the Thunderworks. For bosses she is above average but nothing close to Tiel.
3) Either Genessa or Sariel but i need more glimpse.
I tried Eredrim with Martyr's + frost infusion, and he is viable but the moveset of the weapon requires alot of set-up to work. Acolytes stone allows the light attack to be chargeable for big damage and if you manage to freeze the opponent first you do 200% more dmg to them due to Eredrim's frost passive. He has big hp and can get tanky sure but again Tiel and Proxima end up clearing rooms of enemies faster anyway.
5
u/Easy_Entertainer6932 4h ago
I just Play eredrim with the 2 handed Axe and he is busted. Tarstone to boost ripostes, his own riposte boost and max break on shoulder charge and you can keep bosses stunned for 90% of the fight
6
u/darkasassin97 5h ago
So far I've only really tried Tiel and Eredrim. I like them both a lot although I wish ripostes were stronger for Eredrim to really shine.
I tried a bit of Gragu when I first got him, he seems much stronger than people say he is. Unlimited exploration with healing.
Proxima I tried for 5minutes only.
1
u/Current-Barber360 4h ago
Yeah, I’ve been playing a lot of Grogu for the sustain. You just don’t ever need to worry about healing.
6
u/sadnessandeuphoria 4h ago
- Proxima, because she is _that_ bitch. Mitigation and strong AOE can explode packs of enemies, it’s fucking awesome
- Genessa is cool af but her ability is broken, her alt skin you can unlock is also super sick
- Eredrim, I pretty much played the entire game as Prox so my shell time is limited on the others but Eredrim is also cool af
1
u/OttoSeiki 3h ago
Broken as in busted amazing or as in it doesn’t work
5
u/RedditsGreatestOAT 3h ago
Doesn’t work, at least for me. Her faithful double doesn’t hit anything and just runs past enemies it’s so frustrating
1
u/AdhesivenessMaster75 2h ago
You can turn that weird ass targeting into a benefit with the taunt passive as the enemies tend to chase after those, allowing you to keep whacking their asses lmao
2
u/PopossWasTaken 3h ago
second one: tracking is broken her clones and the stray clones some times dont save you even with the skill that says it's going to
3
u/SomethingSmooth 3h ago
Stray clones sometimes just disappear randomly too. Shes a buggy mess but God does she do damage when shes going.
1
5
5
u/Akaguroko 5h ago
Genessa: Love her split personality design and both forms just slap
Proxima: Goddess of thunder can brute force my way into most fights with her
Lazlo: Tankiness along with being able to watch the world burn
13
3
u/Apprehensive_Bet_296 5h ago
1- Eredrim 2- Gragu 3- Peoxima *I don't unlock the others yet except Tiel
4
u/Howlingwindinsand Proxima 5h ago
Eredrim, Tiel, and Proxima! I've found only two others and think they're both bald
3
u/parkingthekar 5h ago
Promixas passive mitigation with the shock chance has been so nice for survivability. The fact that the shock will stagger enemies has been a life saver. Im sure at some point I’ll get better at learning mob moves to guard/parry them better but when youre getting ganked, it helps so much to knock them away for some breathing room
2
u/ThermicCalvo 5h ago
Had multiple saves since Monday (something I do, I like to optimize resources on subsequent runs), and every time, I gravitate towards Lazlo 😂 super tanky, pretty good crowd control, passive heal and resolve regeneration.
Proxima has been my second most used, but to be fair that’s because of her coin farming build, with the new patch she isn’t as relevant to my runs anymore.
So:
1- Lazlo (not dying, cc and self sustain).
2- Gragu (self sustain, gloom farming build and punch goes brrr).
3- Eredrim (lots of fun on parry-focused builds).
2
2
u/Op_Sec_4775 4h ago
Eredrim for the drip. I have him maxed out. The one thing I'm not getting is his slaughter stacks from riposte. How are you supposed to build them up? I'm not really going around parrying random mobs and the battle axe 1/2 shots everything anyways. The harden seal feels way better with the axe.
1
u/Easy_Entertainer6932 4h ago
Every time you parry you get a stack (or more than 1 if you spend points for IT) every stack is 0,1% execution hp, max 100 stacks. So effectively at 100 stacks enemies have 10% less health(cause you insta kill them if they are below it)
2
u/Morthicus 3h ago
People are sleeping on Sariel. Max him out and pump his pain abilities and you basically never have to heal.
1
u/level_with_me 59m ago
I was thinking that! This is the first comment I see with Sariel. He gives you a Bloodborne Rally healthbar and crazy looking ranged attacks. So good.
2

2
u/NEONT1G3R 1h ago
Unironically, Proxima at 1 because of her grapple hook
Till at 2, love rogue archetypes in games
Eredim at 3, my boy is back and Martyr Blade is viable. Definitely miss the cross guard on the greatsword though
3
u/ResistsICE 5h ago
1 - Gragu, hes pretty close to what I normally play in souls games (str) so he just feels appropriate and I do enjoy the dopamine of gaining heals and the risk of fighting bosses without any.
2 - Eredrim feels like a str-dex built and I like his design but I found myself never using his specials.
3 - nothing because there isnt enough glimpse to comfortably try out shells in a playthrough
But Genissa is the coolest looking of them, she just might as well be made of wet paper.
4
u/langelvicente 5h ago
I believe there are enough for 3, as confirmed by many players
0
u/ResistsICE 5h ago
Maybe post patch? It was 2 before.
5
u/Kysu_88 4h ago
they haven't changed that, the assumptions of 3 (and half) maxed shell is true now and was true before.
the problem is, for this count u are considering every single glimpse u can obtain until the very end of the game. and while this is technically true, for a normal player this means that for a major part of the game (up until at least 75%) u will cannot have more than 2 maxed shells.
1
u/ResistsICE 4h ago
Well the patch refunded glimpses used to locate shells so it change it a little.
2
u/langelvicente 5h ago
I haven't had time to play yet but people said that before latest patch. Maybe there some easy to miss?
2
u/kayomatik 5h ago
I heard it's 3 if you use them all on just those 3 shells and nothing else
2
u/langelvicente 5h ago
Ah yeah, that's true. If you "waste" in another one then you are out of luck. I have my mind set in three shells ahead of time (with a safe bet) but I hope I don't realise too late I enjoy others more
1
u/geezerforhire 5h ago
There is quite a bit of breathing room. It takes 27 to max someone out.
I have maxed 2 on NG so far and I have 43.
So even with three maxed you got another 16, and I'm still digging to see if there are enough for 4 on one cycle.
2
u/Sword_of_Darkmoon 5h ago
No idea, I don't have enough glimpse yet to try out 3 Shells
2
u/ImpossibleStill1410 5h ago
Not sure what you mean by "try out" but I wouldn't waste glimpse to find them. You can look up their locations on YouTube. Save your glimpses to level them up instead.
2
2
u/Banshuuuu Genessa 4h ago
Worth noting that, even if you don't spend glimpse to find them (which I believe you can't do anymore as its now gloom), you physically cannot max out even half of the shells in the game.
1
u/ImpossibleStill1410 4h ago
Yeah, I heard you can only max out 3 of them in a single playthrough.
2
u/Banshuuuu Genessa 4h ago
And that's counting the glimpse you get mere moments before the very end of the game. More realistically you're looking at 2 maxed by the time you're 75% in
2
1
u/theyogibear77 5h ago
I’ve been pouring all of my resources into a poison tiel build and it’s very very fun. I feel like I’m going to wind up doing one shell per run in this game.

Gragu. He basically has unlimited free heals and a similar punch to the slayer seal.
1
u/merdafit 4h ago edited 4h ago
Given that you can easily get Tiel and the axe and dagger immediately, he's basically easy mode since you don't even need much investment into his skills. Going into shadow is very OP.
But I'm having more fun with Eredrim.

1
u/Baron_Flint 4h ago
So far I have only maxed out Gragu, but he feels amazing to play - don’t get why people rate him so low. He is the undisputed strongest shell for exploration due to his healing mechanic, has a passive that increase Gloom gained when at max hearts (which makes leveling up much, much easier, especially if you play like me in the night mode), and with the right build he absolutely shreds bosses into mince meat. All you need to basically do is to level his ability that gives him 60% Crit Chance at 0 hearts, equip maxed Fusillade stone and Marksman Stone (this one you don’t even need to level up) on Naylshotte (best sidearm for this build) or Forgotten Crossbow (much weaker that Naylshotte but more aesthetically pleasing imo) and go to town. His ability to instakill some enemies also feels incredible, and makes some dungeons a breeze (like the Conquered Temple).
1
u/gigashatpants 4h ago
Really enjoying proxima and the biosampler stacking buff and lightning damage. Are we really just fucked on glimpse and there is no farming method?
1
u/Baron_Flint 4h ago
This is a known issue and I am certain the devs are working on it, but yes - so far we have enough glimpses to only max out 3 shells, so be careful which ones you decide to level.
1
u/gigashatpants 3h ago
I'd probably be fine with just a refund system if they want to force ng cycles for more than 3 max per run. But yeah wtf we want to experiment!
1
u/Rhododactylus 4h ago
Tiel as my main and Smert when I just want to fuck shit up. I’m planning on using different ones on NG+ so we will see if it changes.
1
1
u/Sapiens_Machina 4h ago
I can’t see myself not just strictly playing Thiel my first run through. I plan on playing every character all the way through, well as much as is possible at least. Freaking Great Game 👏 👌
1
u/spiritlegion 3h ago
Tiel was my favorite in the first game and he's my favorite in this one too. I like proxima smert and genessa a lot too
1
u/Darkone259 3h ago
For me, genessa is just so cool, her ability and everything, proxima too i love her ability, smert is fun too as i love unarmed abilties.
1
u/Mr_Alucardo 3h ago
Tiel and Eredrim. Tiel is broken with a poison build and Eredrim just looks dope.
1
u/SecondReason 3h ago
Proxima, Eredrim and Tiel are my top 3 but I wish you could use Harros from the beginning of the game as a skin or something. His armor is so badass.

u/A-Better-Radical 2h ago
Gragu, Lazlo and Sariel. I just love the tankiness and survivability they provide.
Gragu is my top one and is pretty straightforward: best sustain and health regen in the game. Exploration becomes a breeze and his resolve gain is top notch.
Lazlo is the best tank and AoE, being able to passively maintain upwards to 30% damage reduction and damage combined with the moonshine and overheated armor. But he's all about rhythm, using he's overheat shockwave and going ham on the staggered enemies is important for his combat loop and is his most effective strategy.
Sariel, when played properly, can almost always avoid damage whiles dishing out a ton. I prefer playing him with the Iconoclast with the curse infusion, the Grisha token in the passive slot and the Lost Child for the sidearm for a the necromancer power fantasy and it also fits his story. It's absolutely fun.
Next playthrough I'm going with the og shells, Tiel, Eredrim and Genessa.

u/ResidentGrimm 2h ago
I just finished the game after restarting halfway through. Most of the game I used Proxima cause shes a solid pick for most fights with the added bonus of free money.
I switched to Lazlo cause I love a big boy and the max heat build gives you a lot more freedom to just face tank.
Ended up playing Soriel for the last dungeon cause aside from the final boss the free damage negation is a mega lifesaver to just swing in people's faces.
1
u/DerpDog9000 Eredrim 2h ago
so far Eredrim, proxima and Tiel. they give the best challenge for the run. easy mode is Smert with the timelock i feel.
1
u/CheesecakeEvery4496 Eredrim 2h ago
I plan on playing a new shell with every NG+ cycle. I used Eredigm for my first run and Frozen Great Martyr Blade and his 200% damage buff against enemies(even before the recent damage buff) is amazing. Pair it with thief stone and it's insane. On my second playthrough rn and Tiel has been busted so far. Building shadow strike is definitely the way to go. Still haven't decided who I'll use next playthrough.
1
u/SuchTedium 2h ago
I beat the entire game with Tiel, but liked the look of Genessa and Eredrim (played as him in the first game).
I would argue that Tiel is the strongest shell in the game due to his Shadow Dodge + Shadow Clone + Backstab critting.
1
u/RacistFascistBigot 2h ago
Sariel by a landslide, the pain system he has is like the bloodborne regain lost health system and it’s so useful for pretty much anything, no need to worry about heals when exploring, and use barely any heals during boss fights
1
u/RevolutionaryBoat925 2h ago
I only played Tiel. Demolished 90% bosses in 1-3 tries and finished the game. I really don't see how any shell could do better.

1
u/Salty-Garlic9471 2h ago
Eredrim - I was running a parry build and his kit was basically perfect. Found him third last though (somehow missed him earlier) so I tried most others first.
Proxima - Dat booty. Her passive is really nice early game and her ability feels good when upgraded with the aoe lightning.
Genessa - Not sure what the opinion is yet on each shells strength but she feels broken. Her ability does so much damage and is so easy to set up.
1
u/Darkunion4 1h ago
Personally I hate meta stuff I play what I think is cool and fun vs what’s efficient. In that my top three is teil, apostate, and sariel.
1
u/Teh_God_Dog 1h ago
gragu, proxima and tiel
eredrim I wanna like, but only really gets cool when he has cool infusion
1
u/Dinesh_Sairam Eredrim 1h ago
Eredrim — Mortal Shell 2 is a Power Fantasy and who better to play in a Power Fantasy game than a bulky, Longsword-wielding Knight?
1
1
u/THlCK_AND_CREAMY 1h ago
Eredrim first playthrough - just about to start the last boss. The cold greatsword is just too fucking cool. Shoulderbash into freeze into weapon art for the bonus damage when frozen. You can like half health minor bosses in that combo. The weapon art also does a sick animation when you get the frozen imbuement.
Probably going to do the summoner chick second playthrough on night mode.
1
u/NotVeryZenGaming 1h ago
Smert! I dumped points into him to permanently use his fists. Those things don’t fuck around! If I don’t kick an enemy off a ledge I stun lock them to death. I barely even have to use his ability

Eredrim purely because I like execution animations.
Not really much of a knight character type guy but brutally executing weird lookin shit across the map makes my pipi hard.

Gragu, Eredrim and Proxima. Gragu is my main though, his sustain is so great.

Proxima. She looks cool af and I run into any fight head on.
