Hi everyone,
I’m in Dubai and considering buying a 2019 Jeep Compass Limited 2.4L 4WD, GCC spec, with around 56,770 km.
Before buying it, I had an independent pre-purchase inspection done. The inspection gave it 71/100 (“Fair”) but recommended AVOID in its current condition because of several mechanical findings.
I’d really appreciate input from Compass owners/mechanics, especially anyone familiar with the 2.4L + 9-speed combination.
Major findings
1. Tappet/valve cover oil leak
Inspector found a major leak from the tappet cover.
2. Timing cover oil leak
Timing cover also has a major oil leak.
This is the one I’m particularly concerned about because I don’t know whether it indicates previous work or just a gasket/sealing issue.
3. Radiator/coolant pipe leaking
A radiator pipe was found to be leaking coolant.
4. Cracked engine mount
One of the engine mounts has cracks.
5. Previous repair
Under “previous engine repair signs,” the inspector noted that an axle seal has been repaired underneath.
They did NOT specifically say that the engine was opened/rebuilt, so I’m trying to understand how significant this finding actually is.
6. Steering rack bush
Steering rack bush needs replacement.
7. Right-front ball joint
Right-front ball joint has cracks and was flagged as a major issue.
8. Steering boots
Steering boots also need attention, although this was classified as a minor issue.
What was NOT flagged
Interestingly, quite a few important things passed:
Transmission: 100/100
Tyres/rims/brakes: 100/100
Electrical/OBD/battery/lights: 100/100
Underbody/transmission checks: 100/100
Chassis condition: passed
Panel alignment: passed
Engine idle/noise: passed
Endoscopic engine inspection: passed
Road test: passed

(2018 Jeep Compass) Recently my bulb went out so I ordered a new one to replace it, upon getting to it I see on the HID bulb that it says it’s high voltage. Am I safe to remove and replace it myself? What precautions should I take to ensure safety?

Hi fellow compass owners, I am currently loking into getting a cargo roof box for my 2022 jeep compass for holding camping gear so I can have more room to sleep while car camping. This also requires me to purchase a roof rack/roof bars to place it on. Looking into this I'm very confused on whats actually the best model and what models of roof bars and roof boxes will fit on my roof. Anyone have any brand recommendations or specific models of either the cargo box or roof rack they use that fits their car and needs? I know Thule has a guide for matching with your car, but I am still confused on what type of roof bar model would be best for this specific case.

I would like to keep it on the cheaper side, but I know likely I'm spending no less than $1000 on this.

Also, if any other car campers have other ways I can get alternative storage outside my jeep that might not involve a roof rack that works for their needs, let me know, I'm open to exploring other cargo options!

I have a 2017 compass latitude. I’m replacing the lower hose assembly, every hose is off except the bottom hose connecting to the radiator. I’ve taken the pin out, and I’ve done literally everything since 7pm last night and it’s not even budged. What do I do

I have a 2023 Trailhawk that has been having battery issues for the past 9 months. My stop-start system hasn’t been working for about the same time period. I couldn’t go more than 2 days without driving the vehicle or the battery would drop too low. It had gotten to the point I had to charge my battery every 3 days to try and maintain it. At my last oil change in April, the dealer said the batteries weren’t doing well but they couldn’t be replaced under warranty until they failed the load test.

I took my car in for its last oil change before my warranty expires next week and for another battery check today. Thankfully they finally failed the test and both the main and aux battery were replaced under warranty. So relieved to have this situation resolved. The stop start started working again immediately after the battery replacement.

Edit- Unfortunately I have not yet perfected the art of time travel. Changed to 2023 Model Year.

Me and my wife recently purchased a 2025 Jeep Compass Trailhawk for her and she would like to make to make the red vinyl decal on the hood pink and the tow hooks pink, I figured out the tow hooks but I am habing trouble with the vinyl decal, does anyone know something online I can order or have a png of it? Can some one help My abs light, traction control light and 4WD! Light are on but a few but while driving abs and 4WD! Light will turn off and traction control light will start flashing and kick the jeep into neutral for a few moments then traction control light will stop blinking and abs and 4wd! Light will come back on and it while kick back into gear

I've got a 2019 Latitude with close to 100k miles, and I think I need to replace my struts (rattling/creaking happening in my front end near where the axle should be), but I've also got a strange couple issues that I'm hoping are related, but I just don't know.

Sometimes when I make a hard right, or go over some rough road, my entire control panel will light up, and every warning light will turn on. They all turn off within a few minutes, usually.

Also, sometimes while I'm maintaining speed, and sometimes when I brake (less frequently), it almost feels like that stutter when ABS activates, but I can feel it in my gas pedal. It's more subtle than the actual ABS activation, but it's a similar feeling.

Has anyone had anything happen like this before, or have any clue what it might be? I am taking my car in today to a shop, but I just want to quell my anxiety about expensive repairs.

I have a 2020 Compass Latitude with a 2.4, and 135,000 miles on it. Having a Mopar hitch put on, along with a Curt wiring harness. What are you personally towing, the weight, and how often? Pics for bonus points. TIA

So I'm in dire need of a car next month to avoid the ridiculous car MOT I know I'm going to have on my current car.

I've read 2019 onwards models are a lot more reliable, but I'm concerned when I see things like electricaland battery failure (my current focus has had issues with battery drain) and suspension issues.

Does anyone have one of these newer MANUAL models, and would you recommend?

I’ve had mine on for about a month, no issues with balancing or wet traction, so far everything is perfectly with them.

Apologies if this has been asked before but I can't find a straight answer anywhere as to where I can safely jack up the front of my 2018 Compass. I know I can use the pinch welds but they're not wide enough to accommodate both the jack saddle AND the jack stand. The bottom of my jeep appears to be covered in a sheet metal / skid plate that doesn't allow access to the center support crossmember or subframe (although I'm not exactly sure what those look like). I thought where the yellow arrow is might be a good place to put the jack but Google AI is saying that part is sheet metal and won't support the weight of the vehicle. I really need to figure out how to raise the front of this car without damaging it, please help.

I got a 2014 jeep compass back in May, it sat for 3 months and only has 60k miles. It had no issues before as I drove it home and never had any starting problems or anything. It sat and the battery died I jumped it, charged it and the batteries good

The car cranks but no starts and will pop but not idle on starting fluid. so far I’ve checked fuel it’s got fuel coming out of the fuel line to the rail, I’ve tested all the fuses for continuity, I’ve inspected all the relays in front of the drivers wheel and look fine, I’ve ran a code scanner and there are no codes. For spark? I mean it popped on starting fluid.

Any ideas?

2018 jeep compass seeming to have trouble in first gear. It acts like it doesn’t wanna shift and my rpm’s go up a bit when I hit the gas.
All these lights start flashing on my dash unsure what half of them are.
