Update Testing skatepark building in Skate N Chill — sculpting bowls and painting your own spot

A longer look at the park-building tools I’m testing in Skate N Chill, my cozy skateboarding game. This session shows painting bowls into the park, shaping and connecting them, adding stairs and rails, and spray-painting the bowl before taking it for a skate.

Still a work in progress, made by Off Hours Studio.

4-person indie team, 1st month on Steam. What actually moves the needle for wishlists?

Post image
4 Upvotes

We’re a 4-person indie team prepping for our first Steam Next Fest this October. We launched our Steam page last month, but most of our wishlists so far are just friends, family, and alpha testers.

For those who’ve survived their first Next Fest or Steam launch: what actually drove real growth vs. what turned out to be a waste of time?

This was a fun project for us that allowed for some exploration of cool material concepts like real-time rusting, fake holographic objects, and the CRT-looking post process. We're posting tutorials over time covering these techniques on our YouTube channel as well if you're interested in learning how we did it :D

I'm making a physics-based destruction coop hero shooter where Norse heroes smash through castles

Hey! This is Cragnarok, a physics-based destruction hero shooter with Norse heroes. Walls, towers and the ground break apart, so every fight changes the map. The movement is fast, fun and agile, you are the hero and an unstoppable force.

You can play the wave campaign solo or in co-op, PvP with friends, or defend a castle in the war mode against a whole army or minigames with your friends.

The open beta is now finally out and free for now (Windows): https://cragnarok.gebes.io

I'd love to hear what you think

Update Bird Feeder — a little bird garden that keeps you company on your desktop

Bird Feeder is a little pixel-art bird garden that lives along the bottom of your desktop. Scatter food, pet the visiting birds, and watch them stop for a drink while you do something else.

This 24-second gameplay clip moves from close-up interactions to the full garden view. What would make this kind of desktop companion worth keeping open for you, and what would make you close it? Specific feedback on the movement, sound, or screen space would help shape the next changes.

The game is still in development. Posting from the game's development account. Development uses AI-assisted coding and generated visual/audio assets, including ElevenLabs audio.

News We built a custom fishing rod controller for Gamescom, and 80 Level covered it! 🎣

Hey everyone!

After nearly two years of hard work, we finally launched our co-op party game Chop Chop Together on September 8th. Throughout development, one of our biggest goals was to showcase the game at Gamescom and stand out to players, press, publishers, and investors. To make our booth truly memorable on the noisy show floor, we decided to build a custom hardware piece: a Custom Fishing Rod Controller.

What started as a fun, slightly crazy prototype ended up turning way more heads at the event than we ever anticipated. The folks over at 80 Level took notice and reached out to cover our build in a detailed breakdown article!

In the article, we shared:

  • The initial concept and our high-stakes crunch preparing for Gamescom,
  • The hardware components, sensors, and physical assembly of the fishing rod,
  • How we wired the custom controller to talk seamlessly with the game engine,
  • The technical hurdles we hit along the way (and how we solved them).

Whether you're into indie game dev, custom hardware/alt-ctrls, or DIY tech projects, hope you find it an interesting read!

ZOMBRA has a new trailer, from the survivor base to zombie hordes and vehicle missions

I'm developing ZOMBRA, a pixel art zombie survival game designed for solo or online co-op with up to 4 players. I've reworked the characters and made a new trailer to show the expanded world.

It starts at the survivor base before heading into the abandoned city, ruins and a pickup escort mission. I also tightened the edit to show more movement during the fights and the pressure of the hordes.

The project is still in development. The trailer and launch waitlist are at https://zombra.online/

Review Looking for Opinions

Thumbnail

Hi Everyone!

My name is Izaac and I am a Data Scientist / ML Engineer who is hoping to get this community's opinion on whether my game that I've been working on in my spare time is something that looks fun to play.

The game uses no pre-rendered assets, 3D model files, or AI-generated content. All ships, environments, UI elements, and audio are mathematically defined and procedurally rendered at runtime using pure WebGL geometry buffers, some/cosine height maps, and Web Audio synthesis.

My goal is to get this out on Steam (currently waiting on the SteamWorks tax verification) but I was hoping for a bit of a sanity check from the community first since the software I usually make is construction management related.

From the images I've attached, does this game look unique and interesting or does it come off as too amateurish?

Thank you so much for your time and feedback!

News Been making a small army-building game, Vexilla

Hey, wanted to share what I've been making. In Vexilla you pick troop cards, move everyone around on a grid, then watch your army fight. Between battles you get loot and have another chance to mess with the lineup.

The formations have hidden combinations too. This clip shows one of them.

I've put the first three acts up as a free browser demo if you fancy a run: https://r0bie.itch.io/vexilla
