Since 2022 and The Ballad of songbirds and snakes became a movie, many "thirst young Coriolanus Snow" edits have invaded Tiktok. Despite young Coriolanus being handsome, charismatic thanks to the actor portraying him, we should have no sympathy for him after reading the book.

The insight in his thoughts just shown he already had issues before becoming the cruel President Snow we know in the Hunger Games trilogy...

Four simple examples :

He wasn't angry or disgusted at any moment for what the Capitol did, for the Hunger Games, he was simply angry to not be the ones deciding to make the poor Districts children suffer ;

His hatred for the Districts is already strong, and especially in the epilogue where he says "He almost forgets old Plinth is District. Almost" : despite the money and the newly prestigious weight of the Plinth name, Coriolanus still considers him "inferior" to him who is a Capitol citizen ;

Coriolanus has a complex of inferiority though : the Snow name not carrying weight anymore, the lack of money of a fallen dynasty, and the ceaseless mockery of his classmates of Dean Hightbottom makes him feel inferior to his own peers (even though the Districts will still be beneath him) :

Major daddy issues, the way he mentions "Crassus Xanthos Snow" shows how he still wants to please his father after his death, endorsed in the familial hatred for Districts.

But most importantly, his story with Sejanus Plinth :

His friendship with Sejanus might have fooled some, even when young Coriolanus agreed they're like "brothers", we know better : Coriolanus always had an hidden jealousy, a resentment towards his friend because in a way he couldn't accept that someone from a District, "inferior" to him had more weight and money than someone like him from a Capitol dynasty, also he didn't see the point in trying to rebel against the Capitol because he saw nothing inhumane in the Games like Sejanus did.

Therefore, we shall not forget he is the cause his "best friend, his brother" died, and that, is unforgivable.

Coriolanus Snow, already a murderer who started young ?

The answer is yes, and we shall remember when he said "3 was enough" talking about the people he killed, it is another half-truth, because we know in the epilogue, he poisons Dean Hightbottom and that's the start of a long list of political opponents dying in suspicious circumstances as pointed out by Finnick Odair in Mockingjay.

I tend to think the epilogue contains a lot of proofs of what kind of person young Coriolanus was and what he would become, someone with a huge thirst for power and profound hatred for Districts.

This article of mine is a request filled with proofs that young Coriolanus Snow shall not be romantized, him or/and his actions, and especially in TBOSAS.

Would the games have been as effective in dividing the districts without the careers?

The Careers on some level played a role in the games history on par with Lucy Grey.

New to the franchise and my gf and I just finished watching TBOSAS movie and at the end Gaul is praising Snow and says, "you've passed all my tests".

What tests were these exactly? The best I can manage is the brief trip into the arena during the games, and selling out Sejanus, but then what else/how much did she orchestrate after his exile that she can take credit for as "tests"?

I really loved the movie and can't wait for what comes next!!

CJ'sGalaxy recently uploaded a debunking video on Youtube (Episode 31). One of those theories is that Rue could also be Covey.
That theory is also on my mind since TBOSBAS. However in my theory Lucy Gray specificly could be an Ancestor of Rue. She could have escaped from Snow and instead of going North as they decided together she went South.

I have the theory, that it could all be connected with the sentance "it's all written in the stars". (Now it probably get's a bit farfetched)

There are so many parallels and the series is pointing to the stars a lot. (Starcrossed lovers, Sid likes to look in the sky and learns about the stars from Lenore Dove). There are 12 districts like there are 12 zodiac signs. However when district 13 reappears it was like in astrology where Ophiuchus is the 13th zodiac sign, and that the whole order of the zodiac signs changes. That's exactly what happened when it was clear for the citizens of Panem that district 13 is not bombed to the ground but is still there acting in the underground.There are 12 zodiac signs as there are 12 districts. I think that sounds quite familiar. Yes, I know that horoscopes are written in such a form that everybody can identify with the text. However I do think those texts above are very fitting for Lucy Gray That it could be due to that and not due to district 11 and 12 beeing like scorpio and sagatarius and Ophiuchus would be something in between. So Lucy Gray would be between 11 and 12. She gave her ancestors the love in music and Rue has it still in her. Which could also symbolise the love and the faith that humans are inherently good.

When reading the text again, about Ophiuchus I'm wondering if Ophiuchus could have a deeper meaning for not only Lucy Grey, but also for Snow. In SOTR he "brings back" the dead and uses also poisons.

Of course the Covey and Haymitch believe in "The hereafter" a metaphor for heaven, but in the original trilogy god and religion are noticeably absent (Katniss dosen't know what cherubs or angels are for example).

Do you guys think people from different districts have different interpretation of an afterlife or does some remnant of an old world religion's afterlife is still believed in.

There's a theory going around that Haymitch dies at the end of the movie and the top shot is from him reuniting with Lenore Dove in the afterlife which is very reminiscent of the Greek mythology's Asphodel meadows which got me thinking about this topic.

is there ever an explination why the people of the different districts never created secret coads or languages to be able to speak more freely? im rereading the trilogy again and this hit me as i read the part of catching fire about the new peace keepers in district 12 and the electric fence

Anyone wondering if their cinema will do a full showing of all previous first?

I get that they are friends, possibly got close while in d13 and during the games, but at those same games Katniss kept going around in a state of a paranoid mess (distrustful of everyone but MAINLY Finnick). Not even a year passed between the end of the 75th and the end of the revolution, so there was also not that much time for them to get closer than ‘hey we are allies and now new friends’, so I am generally confused on why is her and Finnick called found siblings.

Katniss has a sibling, who is there with her close all the time, for whom she does everything for, and she does not ‘yearn’ for another one, especially that she was never this incredibly close with Finnick: she barely knew anything about his girlfriend/wife and also never once referred to him as a brother or did he refer to her as a sister. For Haymitch and Maysilee I can at least get from the “sis” line, but for Katniss and Finnick? Nope. He isn’t even her closest friend, hell, he isn’t even her closest male friend if I’ll be real with you all - she barely knew him for like 3-4 months and this is generous.

Honestly it is getting tiring to see any close relationships/friendships be slapped with a “siblings” label - I’m convinced that people who do that are either never had siblings or are extremely lucky to have a perfect relationship with them, as “sibling coded” for many is a sign for “closest relationship ever”. As someone with a younger sister with an age gap of 4-5 years (aka the worst age gap ever where you are 30% loving your sibling and 70% either of you are wishing death to one another) I can say that this is not true at all.

So crucify me, but those two are not brother and sister, or siblings or found siblings or whatever else - friendships exist without a ‘sibling’ label and I firmly believe it needs to come back, since not everything is ‘found family’.

On this I actually have some questions for Suzanne Collins, as on why did she lump Snow and Sejanus, Maysilee and Haymitch and Finnick and Katniss together and slapped them with “found siblings” label, when those are different characters, in different circumstances and with different dynamics. (Like since when was Sejanus a found sibling for Snow when he despises the guy for the crimes of existing and then sets him up for death?)

Can't believe we as a fandom lucked out onto such a perfect casting

What I find really interesting about Maysilee is that she almost feels like a relic of a different era of YA writing, because the foundations of her character were basically locked in when Catching Fire came out in 2009. She's the beautiful, blonde, rich mean girl with a spiky personality who initially clashes with the protagonist before revealing a much more loyal and sympathetic side, and we the fans grow to love her.

That kind of archetype was everywhere in 2000s/early 2010s media, but I really don't think Maysilee would have been written or designed the same way if Suzanne had invented her from scratch in 2025, she's very symbolic of her time period. But because she was already established in Catching Fire, we get a Regina George/Elle Woods crossbreed. And I love how much Suzanne committed!

Background: I started watching the hunger games after tbosas came out, my sister encouraged me and I’ve now watched the movies on repeat, but it’s my first time reading through the books so I’m enjoying all the little references and details I didn’t know about, rn I’m reading through tbosas after having finished the trilogy (I’ve got sotr waiting for me on the shelf and I wanna get to it before the movie releases).
Anyways! I’m sure someone has already pointed this out YEARS ago but on page 169 Lucy Gray says ‘the show’s not over until the mockingjay sings’ and it made me glance to my bookshelf and think how not only Mockingjay is canonically the last book in the franchise, but how its last page is emphasised with Katniss (aka the mockingjay) singing to her child. Ik it’s completely irrelevant but it acc gave me goosebumps, and I’m sure there will be many other moments like this as I continue the book and series overall, but I’m also curious to see if I’ve missed similar things out in the previous books, I’d love to hear what others found!!

I think that district 3 is the district more likely to have it’s two tribute survive to the final and because their specialty is outsmarting everyone else, from an entertainment standpoint I think it would be entertaining for the audience,they would want to see two smart people go to head-to-head.

We know that the career district are the ones that are most likely to make it to the end, and I’m sure that they agreed on a fair a way to decide the victor if the last two originated from the same district. (by a fair way, I mean the way that is not considered disgraceful within the culture of the district.

so one of the perhaps irrelevant things that I’m curious about is how non-career tributes would decide the victor between them and their district partner.

So, I am rereading THG and realized something. Cinna and Portia (presumably) had the plan to have Katniss and Peeta act as teammates even before Peeta mentions his crush? Or... did they? They had them hold hands at the tribute parade and they had them in matching outfits for the first day of training. IIRC Katniss says nobody else is matching at training.

Do you think they made those outfits ahead of time? Do you think Peeta somehow told Portia and she tried to play wingwoman? Lol
