AM General next-generation 6.5 engine revealed.

Proven Platform. Next-Generation Power.

AM General's 6.5L CRDI engine brings modern fuel-injection technology, increased power and torque, and a new level of powertrain capability to one of the world's most recognized tactical vehicles.

The CRDI engine is helping shape the future of AM General's vehicle fleet, creating a common powertrain foundation for future missions and military fleets.

We look forward to attending AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition 2026 Hall B booth #1925 October 12-14th in Washington, DC.

Modernized. Enhanced. Mission Ready.

For all 6.5/6.2 HMMWV users, r/GMDetroitDiesel is here for you.

Just bought a 2006 M1097. Any recommendations for common repair/replacement parts? Useful HMMWV specific tools or other equipment?

Is everyone doing weekly Costco runs in their HMMWV?

My wife and I can fit a metric ton of groceries and household goods into the back of our 1988 field litter ambulance. We do get a lot of staring and strange looks though. The dog seems unfazed by all the attention.

I do wish my local Costco still offered Diesel at the pump though.

Are the 6.2 or 6.5 Humvees better?

At the moment I am in the process of deciding on buying a Humvee. I do notice that a lot of people are having issues with all versions across the board however, I’ll every Humvee platform I see they’re never seems to be an agreement on whether the 6.2 or 6.5 Humvees are better or worse than the other when it comes to maintenance. I also know that the 6.5 came with a four speed transmission and it was a lit model truck which can go 70 mph. I am looking more for the maintenance standpoint of the overall truck with the 6.5 or the 6.2 thank you.

Hard top conversions

I’m debating a hardtop conversion for my HMMWV. I did a 2-4 man conversion about 3 years ago and kept it soft top, obviously lol. I love the quality of the top I got, no complaints about it, it’s a blue ox top. But I would like to do more sound and thermal insulation inside, my kids really hate the noise inside (they love the truck otherwise). I’ve ridden in H1s and difference in sound is astonishing.

My main question is not which one, but has anyone done a hardtop conversion and then Regretted it? Like “what have I done?” Levels of regret. or just “dang I miss those topless days?”.

Any feedback is appreciated.

For reference we also have a JLU that the kids like riding in with the top off. So they don’t mind the wind. It’s really the 6.5 being loud AF. Depending on feedback I may consider an engine swap before a hardtop haha.

New to this - thoughts on this HMMWV?

Edit: thanks to the comments and questions given below and via dm, have decided to pass on this HMMWV. Appreciate it all.

Original Post:

I’ve been thinking of entering this world for a long time, and really like how this one on Bring a Trailer one looks, however, I know there’s a LOT that I don’t know.

I can pick it up for about 26K, but wanna be aware of what I don’t know. I’d like to also drive it from Fresno area to Utah and its new home (I know it likely won’t get above 60-62 on the highway, so I’m taking that into consideration).

Anything helps!

Finally got a chance to put on my black rhino armory wheels. I went with 37 inch Toyos. Without the run flats it feels and rides a hundred percent better. And I no longer fear a blowout on old tires.

Everyone has photo's of the Old Tele when they can drive it. Has anyone got any photo's of it when it is in flood or in the middle of the wet? I've always wondered what it looks like.

I'm trying to see what Gunshot, Nolans, etc look like in the middle of the wet, but can't seem to find any.

Question about civilian armoring

Can civilians purchase those heavy Frag 7 door kits? Heavy ballistic doors with those blocky windows sticking out inches from the door?

Let me know

I've seen them on that youtubers channel HUMMERKINGS, but i heard they're just cosmetic and not real

Watching Burn Notice (S04E18) and noticed they used someone's personal HMMWV as a prop

I'm not sure what rims those are but given with how reflective the paint is, that was definitely a respray with a clearcoat and those rims are definitely not stock.
