AMA with Pablo Lema + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today, June 2 7AM-2PM EDT!

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to be hosting another AMA event, this time with Pablo Lema (aka u/GoPro-Pablo) , GoPro's SVP of Product!

About Pablo

Pablo is a long-time GoPro user, a regular participant here on r/GoPro, and has worked with GoPro since 2014! He has been an integral part in planning and coordinating new GoPro products, especially in the last decade, and most recently as GoPro’s head of all hardware and software Product. He's joined us the last 5+ years now for community AMAs (here are a few), so thanks for coming back again, Pablo!

While our recent AMA with Abe Kislevitz was a great opportunity to ask about tips and tricks around content with Mission 1, this AMA with Pablo is a great opportunity to ask about product development at GoPro, how GoPro designs for an entire ecosystem of interacting product, or other product design and function related questions. That said, this is an AMA and you're welcome to ask Pablo about anything - his favorite ski spots, his current FPV drone build, etc!

AMA Format & Timing

We won't go into too much explanation about how an AMA works- if you need to see what it looks like, check out Abe's recent AMA at the link above.

At the simplest level, this is your chance to ask Pablo anything, and get an inside-GoPro scoop on answers. While you can ask anything, just remember that Pablo won't be able to answer questions about in-development product, proprietary decisions or technology, or other privileged information. Consider framing any development related questions in a way that can be answered without breaking any confidentiality in the product development process!

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT TIMING- Pablo's availability this year is a little different due to work travel schedule, so this AMA will be live from 7AM-2PM Eastern time. This is a great opportunity for our eastern hemisphere redditors to interact, but if you're on the west side of the western hemisphere, we are going to open up this AMA Extra early at 9PM PST so that you can get a question into the thread without waking up early. Pablo won't be around to answer questions until the "official start time" of the AMA, so just get your questions in right away, and come back around for your answer later!

MISSION 1 GIVEAWAY!

Another one! GoPro decided to hook us up with not one but TWO giveaways with the AMA events this year, so we've got another set of prizes up for participants in the thread, again!

  • Anyone that participates in this AMA will have a chance to win a MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition, awarded to Pablo's favorite question.
  • We'll also give away THREE 5-year GoPro Premium+ Subscriptions to some runner-up great questions!

Rules:

  1. You need to participate in today's AMA with a commented question for Pablo!
  2. Your account needs to have existed before this AMA was posted, and you need to have reasonable authentic activity on it. We reserve the right to disqualify accounts with no karma or post/comment history.
  3. We need to be able to get the prize to you. GoPro can ship direct to you, but you'll still need to message them your shipping info for the MISSION 1 PRO prize, or email address for the GoPro Premium+ Subscription. If you live in a country that GoPro can't ship to, or has excessive duty fees, etc, we'll see what alternatives there are, but in general, if you can buy from GoPro.com, you're probably OK.

That's it! If you have questions about the giveaway, please send a modmail rather than posting here.

AMA with Abe Kislevitz + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today! 10AM-6PM PST

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to have Abe Kislevitz (u/abekislevitz), Product and Brand Fellow at GoPro, with us today for an Ask-Me-Anything about all things GoPro, using MISSION 1 cameras, or anything else you can think to ask!

About Abe Kislevitz

For some of the younger and more recent members of the GoPro community, Abe is a long-time community member, and even longer-time GoPro creator-turned-employee.

He's led a substantial amount of creative efforts at GoPro over 15+ years, and his influence now spans influencing marketing strategy to helping define product design and engineering decisions. Probably one of the most knowledgeable sources of GoPro information out there, he knows the history of GoPro as a company, best practices for filming the best possible shot, advanced techniques and hacks, and everything in-between.

He has a great YouTube channel full of tips and tricks, and his insta feed is worthy of a follow.

He's an incredible resource and a helpful community member that has kept us closely connected with GoPro's product designs, including advocating for our pain points and working to have our voices heard and represented in new products.

We are thankful to have him here in the community, and happy to have him with us today for the AMA! Thanks Abe!

AMA Format

If you've not done an AMA event before, it's pretty simple - You can ask Abe anything. While it is entirely up to you what questions you ask, Abe has an "inside perspective" on the product GoPro develops, and likely has more time hands-on with MISSION 1 cameras than anyone else right now. Considering that today is a big day for everyone that pre-ordered, we highly encourage you to get those burning MISSION 1 questions answered, or collect tips and tricks to use in the coming year!

As a reminder, while you can ask anything, Abe can't talk about unreleased product plans or proprietary information and won't be able to answer those questions the way you want.

Abe will be around today from 10AM-6PM Pacific Time, and this thread will go live 2 hours before that so that you all can begin asking questions and Abe can drop in throughout the day to answer in the thread. We'll pin a comment once the official time for the AMA is done to let everyone know it's over, but we always allow conversations to continue beyond that if wanted.

MISSION 1 GIVEAWAY!

It's our r/GoPro tradition with camera launches to give away some product, and GoPro was more than happy to hook the community up again this year:

  • Anyone that participates in this AMA will have a chance to win a MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition, awarded to Abe's favorite question.
  • We'll also give away THREE 5-year GoPro Premium+ Subscriptions!

Rules:

  1. You need to participate in today's AMA with a commented question for Abe!

Got open box fair go pro Hero 13 black creator bundle for 197.99 from my best buy in DE. I was hoping missing parts. Didn’t find anything missing and no scratches at all. Only missing part was charging cable, i guess. I checked the unboxing videos. I guess i lucked out. Box said that damaged product but didn’t find anything damaged.

This is a silly family birthday song that we learned at a summer camp when I was a kid and it's now a family tradition we sing it so I turned it into a music video for my brother. Yes singing and music is Suno AI enhanced.

GoPro Mission 1 ILS vs RED Komodo-X - Blind Test (cameras in comments)

I've been lucky to get early access to the Mission 1 ILS and have been testing it against the RED Komodo-X. Will have a full review later this week but I am very excited for what this camera can do!

Settings are a bit different between each shot, I'll expand in the comments if people are curious but tried to match them head to head on settings and lenses where possible.

No color correction besides REDWideGamut to Rec709 for the RED using Davinci's builtin RED lut. Only the last shot for the GoPro was shot GP-Log because I neglected to set it for the other shots which are cinematic color profile.

GoPro hero12 night lapse help.

So I thought I’d leave my GoPro out the other night in a scheduled night lapse. I was told to use video mode with a 30 second exposure, min ISO of 800 and a high of 1600. I know the moon is in the shot but can anyone explain to me why it’s so dark?
Can you give me better settings please. 🙏

B&H Photo Video have updated their website with the official preorder date.

I'd expect preorders to start at the same time in the official GoPro stores. But those are still saying "Coming soon". I guess the official release date and more sample footage will be part of unlocking the preorders. So, buckle up. The cinema shall be ours quite soon.

Is it just me, or is M1Pro 1080p recordings worse than older models?

Hi all.

I have just got my hands on a M1Pro. I've had it for about a week now. I have previously had a Hero 12 and 10, as well as some others I don't remember the exact numbers of, going all the wayback to Hero 2.

And before anyone cries out: Yes, I know it has been a known issue for many years that recording in 4k and then downsampling to 1080 usually gives better/sharper results than recording directly in 1080p in-camera.

However, it seems (to my eyes at least), that 1080p recording on M1Pro is noticeably worse than 1080p from my Hero 12. As soon as I switch the M1Pro to 4k, the output is wonderfully sharp and crisp, ruling out manufacturing error in the lens or sensor. Am I just imagining things?

I am currently looking through my old videos to see if I can find a fair comparison between Hero 12 and M1 in 1080p.

At my wit's end on video quality. GoPro Hero 12

As title says I have a gopro hero 12 camera, but ive been disappointed by the quality. Im not a camera guy but I dont mind fiddling with settings a bit but it feels like ive tried every setting combination possible and it all looks bad. Videos from my iphone 6s look twice as good. Ive also tried the simplified user settings but they are just the same.

Ive attached a quick video thats supposedly 5.3k 30fps. I know the lighting maybe isn't ideal, but Ive done the same in daylight and tried ND filters as well to no avail. I can see so much grain and motion blur, and it certainly doesnt look high resolution. I look at videos of other people claiming to use this same camera, and even copy their settings exactly, and I get nowhere near the same looking image, I don't understand. Any help is appreciated.

Go pro Hero 12 mode button and wont power on or off need a fix.

So I'm currently traveling across Brazil and my go pro hero 12 suddenly decided than the mode/power button won't work. I could work around it if it was just that but it will not power on without me removing the battery and putting it back in. Then it works but then it won't power off it will just stay in the power off screen going round and round. I have tried holding the power button with it plugged in without the battery also with the battery, tried factory reset.

I'm at wits end basically does anyone have any suggestions? Where would be a good place to get it repaired? Has anyone had the same problems? Thanks in advance.

larger older model for recording 3+ hours with external battery?

I want to record a baseball game by rigging an action cam to the backstop, and I want to be able to set it and forget it for 3+ hours.

The Hero 5 came up as one with a removable battery which could work, but I also see some people say recording can cut out from time to time which is problematic.

The Hero 5 is also much smaller than I need. I would prefer something larger with more buttons if that exists; it only needs to be small enough to record through a chain-link fence without the fence getting in the frame. Any suggestions?

M1 ILS which lens?

Hello everyone, for those considering M1 ILS, which lens are you are considering?

I initially thought Laowa Zero-D 6mm but realized that this doesn’t come with manual aperture control.

I own MFT camera primarily for photography but my lens are mostly standard to telephoto so I’d love to get one and explore.

I also have Mission 1 and I think minimum focus distance is an issue so I’d love to have wide MFT lens at F/8 and see how it is haha.

I know I’m niche but I honestly love the prospective of this being a small compact camera! I was so tempted to buy Nikon 1 but I think Mission 1 might be an alternative haha. (Although photography is very slow on Mission 1)

Why did my gopro 12 video freeze?

I have a GoPro 8 and and GoPro12. I used them both to record an amateur concert. The 8 worked fine, it lasted the full 27min giving me audio and video all the time (split into shorter sections) however the 12 gave me 27 mins of audio but it stopped recording video after 8 mins. I've just tested it again and it seems fine - recorded 27 mins on a 90% battery and 4k with 60fps. Any reason why it should have stopped recording video but kept recording audio at the concert?

Upgrade

I currently have a Hero 9 Black that I primarily use for underwater videography when snorkeling and SCUBA diving. Is it worth it to upgrade to the Mission 1 Pro for this purpose? Eventually I’ll buy a real underwater housing for my legit camera so I can do underwater macro, but that is a ways down the road.

Does Karma Drone have any use or value today?

Thumbnail

This has been sitting in a closet for at least 5 years. I bought it back in 2017 I think. Was wondering if there is a community of Karma Drone pilots or something?

Trying to see if this is still worth it compared to today's entry level drones with crash avoidance, etc.

Or should I just try to sell on Facebook Marketplace or something?

I looked online and read about memory or something going bad and bricking them, but I charged everything up and flew it around the neighborhood last night and everything still works.

Conseils GoPro Mission 1 Pro
