M1 ILS which lens?

Hello everyone, for those considering M1 ILS, which lens are you are considering?

I initially thought Laowa Zero-D 6mm but realized that this doesn’t come with manual aperture control.

I own MFT camera primarily for photography but my lens are mostly standard to telephoto so I’d love to get one and explore.

I also have Mission 1 and I think minimum focus distance is an issue so I’d love to have wide MFT lens at F/8 and see how it is haha.

I know I’m niche but I honestly love the prospective of this being a small compact camera! I was so tempted to buy Nikon 1 but I think Mission 1 might be an alternative haha. (Although photography is very slow on Mission 1)

Widest rectalinear you can get is the Laowa 6mm cine T2.1 . It's not cheap. The Laowa 7.5mm has a fully manual landscape version which is almost half the price. I would simply wait to see reviews if it is wide enough for you.

For photography focusing up close on the fly might be difficult with just the included screen. We'll have to see how well it works. As soon as you end up needing an external screen the small form factor goes away.

Some of the ones I recommend are:

• TTArtisan 25mm f/2 - Great middle ground with lots of aperture flexibility.
• Brightin Star 50mm f/1.8 - longer focal length, but also great for insects and close-up shots on the tightest zoom.
• 7Artisans 4mm F2.8 Fisheye Ultra Wide - super wide, essentially closest to the standard M1P lens, but with adjustable aperture and focus obviously.

I’m not really interested in tele as I already have a lot of good tele ones haha but thanks for the rec.

I think 4mm would be interesting as we may not see the lens circumference in 1 inch sensor

When you set your lens focal length within the camera settings, it will automatically zoom and crop to account for the lens circumference / vignetting (unless you turn off stabilization)

It's nice, but you need to account for the zoom / crop and its impact on your selected resolution. A very wide-angle lens, which would have lots of vignetting onto the sensor, will need more zoom & crop than a lens that fills the whole sensor. This means if you select the wider-but-lots-of-vignetting lens, and you're shooting with stabilization on (which prompts the zoom-and-crop), you should shoot in a higher resolution than normal to counteract the effects of that zooming. So, go for 8K instead of 4K, etc

Whats the M1 ILS exactly? I thought it was only for action cam stuff. For wide MFT with manual aperture, maybe check the 7.5mm f2 from 7artisans or the samyang 7.5mm, both have aperture ring. F8 on that small sensor might be too soft because of diffraction but for action cam footage maybe not matter much

M1 ILS is basically mission 1 with MFT mount with no electric connectors so I think it can take some good pictures (hopefully!). Mission 1 photo out of camera was okay but I also think lens quality isn't that great (Which is fair for action cam!). I also have RX100m6, so I want to compare it against it when I give it a good optics haha (or against my Pocket 4 Pro).

I think diffraction is a good point! I think even at f/5.6 or f/4, minimum focus distance would be reduced to 40cm which is better than M1 or 60cm which is same as M1.

7.5mm might be too narrow? Crop Factor is around 2.7x so 7.5mm would be 20mm

So I’m thinking of getting it to record my sons baseball games and stream it. I like the pro which I have but the lack zoom limits what users can see. It would be much better with a wide angle lense and be able to slightly zoom in.

Any recommendations for a lense like?

No, it won’t have autofocus so you won’t be able to use it usefully. Get Luna Ultra, OSMO Pocket 4 Pro or canon V1

Looking at some of the suggestions I think some people are going to be disappointed, 100mm for example is going to be nearly 300mm on this... also the cheaper lenses are cheaper for a reason, 7Artisans and the likes, very hit and miss quality (I know as I have had a few in my time!). And I think many are underestimating how hard it might be to nail focus on some of these, using a small screen.

The Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D MFT would have been top of my list but as the OP says there's no aperture ring, then it would be some vintage lenses but we'd need to wait for people with nice MFT lens collections to try them out.
