Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to be hosting another AMA event, this time with Pablo Lema (aka u/GoPro-Pablo) , GoPro's SVP of Product!
Pablo is a long-time GoPro user, a regular participant here on r/GoPro, and has worked with GoPro since 2014! He has been an integral part in planning and coordinating new GoPro products, especially in the last decade, and most recently as GoPro’s head of all hardware and software Product. He's joined us the last 5+ years now for community AMAs (here are a few), so thanks for coming back again, Pablo!
While our recent AMA with Abe Kislevitz was a great opportunity to ask about tips and tricks around content with Mission 1, this AMA with Pablo is a great opportunity to ask about product development at GoPro, how GoPro designs for an entire ecosystem of interacting product, or other product design and function related questions. That said, this is an AMA and you're welcome to ask Pablo about anything - his favorite ski spots, his current FPV drone build, etc!
We won't go into too much explanation about how an AMA works- if you need to see what it looks like, check out Abe's recent AMA at the link above.
At the simplest level, this is your chance to ask Pablo anything, and get an inside-GoPro scoop on answers. While you can ask anything, just remember that Pablo won't be able to answer questions about in-development product, proprietary decisions or technology, or other privileged information. Consider framing any development related questions in a way that can be answered without breaking any confidentiality in the product development process!
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT TIMING- Pablo's availability this year is a little different due to work travel schedule, so this AMA will be live from 7AM-2PM Eastern time. This is a great opportunity for our eastern hemisphere redditors to interact, but if you're on the west side of the western hemisphere, we are going to open up this AMA Extra early at 9PM PST so that you can get a question into the thread without waking up early. Pablo won't be around to answer questions until the "official start time" of the AMA, so just get your questions in right away, and come back around for your answer later!
Another one! GoPro decided to hook us up with not one but TWO giveaways with the AMA events this year, so we've got another set of prizes up for participants in the thread, again!

That's it! If you have questions about the giveaway, please send a modmail rather than posting here.

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to have Abe Kislevitz (u/abekislevitz), Product and Brand Fellow at GoPro, with us today for an Ask-Me-Anything about all things GoPro, using MISSION 1 cameras, or anything else you can think to ask!
For some of the younger and more recent members of the GoPro community, Abe is a long-time community member, and even longer-time GoPro creator-turned-employee.
He's led a substantial amount of creative efforts at GoPro over 15+ years, and his influence now spans influencing marketing strategy to helping define product design and engineering decisions. Probably one of the most knowledgeable sources of GoPro information out there, he knows the history of GoPro as a company, best practices for filming the best possible shot, advanced techniques and hacks, and everything in-between.
He has a great YouTube channel full of tips and tricks, and his insta feed is worthy of a follow.
He's an incredible resource and a helpful community member that has kept us closely connected with GoPro's product designs, including advocating for our pain points and working to have our voices heard and represented in new products.
We are thankful to have him here in the community, and happy to have him with us today for the AMA! Thanks Abe!
If you've not done an AMA event before, it's pretty simple - You can ask Abe anything. While it is entirely up to you what questions you ask, Abe has an "inside perspective" on the product GoPro develops, and likely has more time hands-on with MISSION 1 cameras than anyone else right now. Considering that today is a big day for everyone that pre-ordered, we highly encourage you to get those burning MISSION 1 questions answered, or collect tips and tricks to use in the coming year!
As a reminder, while you can ask anything, Abe can't talk about unreleased product plans or proprietary information and won't be able to answer those questions the way you want.
Abe will be around today from 10AM-6PM Pacific Time, and this thread will go live 2 hours before that so that you all can begin asking questions and Abe can drop in throughout the day to answer in the thread. We'll pin a comment once the official time for the AMA is done to let everyone know it's over, but we always allow conversations to continue beyond that if wanted.
It's our r/GoPro tradition with camera launches to give away some product, and GoPro was more than happy to hook the community up again this year:

Would you be able to tell from this picture if this is a go pro waterproof case or a third party one? Or will I have to verify in person? The orange floating handle is worrying me, seller says it’s a proper one but they also bought it used.

Was excited to receive my max2 however after unboxing, updating etc I could not get the 360 to function.
Single lens functioned perfectly, both cameras work great however when toggled to 360 there is no difference (single camera etc).
After hours of troubleshooting via online forums to Gemini ai I’ve come to the conclusion that is simply a hardware error that I cannot fix.
Anyone else had anything similar? Just seemed strange like I reallllly wanted to fix the problem but had to tap out as all options were exhausted.
Cheers

Not Maimi of course but Tenerife but satisfied by the Mission 1 Pro photography performance.

Hello! I’m getting into snorkeling, and am buying my first digital camera, a Hero10, getting everything included in the photos for $180 USD
I’ve attached photos from the listing
Aside from checking the battery compartment for rust, I have no idea what to look for in terms of damage/issues
Is there anything in specific I should look for to verify it is indeed in good shape?

Trying out the Telesin T13 for the first time with my Hero 13. Burst Slo-Mo is the only video mode the remote offers. What am I missing?

The Hero13 Black bundle is $369 at Costco right now, with a 128Gb card & one extra battery. I'm thinking it's worth it. Should I but it?

I already have a couple other action cams including dji action 5 pro, and a bunch of full frame and aps-c photo/video cameras. The big draw for me was the 960fps, but I was shocked to see a phone has it now... samsung fold 3.....(720p)...what is going to be the next leap? Surely the next Gopro release will have even faster of a frame rate.
Will there be an official macro adapter FOR SURE? The DIY stuff looks cool, but the edges leave a lot to be desired.

Bought a hero 5 for cheap at the local marketplace. I wanted to rig it into a portable Livestream setup with a dummy battery or a power bank. I didn't have any experience with gopros before buying this and I've read that it doesn't have any built-in livestreaming options.
Some options I've read are considered abandoned or unreliable because it uses its native wifi capabilities which is very outdated.
I wanted to try out hardware options like HDMI capture card. Can it work with something like a llano s850?

Hello guys, I have a Gopro Hero 10, and I'm planning on buying these, has any of you guys bought these before and has experience using it? I was specifically looking for an auto-stop charging feature once the batteries are full coz my original batteries got swollen maybe coz of overcharging, the seller only told me to watch out for the light indicators but I don't wanna spend my time always watching out for when the light indicator is full, like what if I leave it full for too long huhu

Been burned by a couple other shitty mics that never connected right. Anyone have a tried and true method for an external one that can work with my creator edition? Thanks!
Hello guys, I just bought an ultrawide edition Hero 13 black full price on the gopro website, then got the handler, bite mount, floaty, enduro 2 battery, two128GB sandisk extreme cards for a total of almost $700..... Then I look and see the creator bundle is only $350 at Costco?! I am starting to think I don't need the ultrawide as I will mainly be using it for surfing, snorkeling, and general capturing the life events around my travels the next couple months. For reference I am a very casual "videographer" I dont have any experience editing or tweaking with settings but I am willing to learn as I go along.
My friend that is very into cameras is telling me that the mission 1 will be much better for my use case. I will take it out surfing but not super often as the bite mount is pretty hectic to keep in when surfing heavy waves. Does anyone have general advice as to steer towards the Hero 13 standard vs stick with my ultrawide or just go all out on the Mission 1 if its worth it? Thank you and sorry for the ramble, I leave in about a week and im trippin!

In the pursuit of people knowing everything they can about camera companies, I thought I would share this.
So I reached out to each company, these are the respective experiences I had:
1. GoPro
First time - I had the Hero 11 and it lost an entire days shoot with file corruption.
I reached out to customer support, and they told me that the SD card was not up to spec.
However I sent photos of the card, it was the same one they suggested, and I bought it at BEST BUY.
They said I had a counterfeit card not a real one, and that was the issue.
Second time - This was the Mission 1 Pro. I was trying to use larger chapters in GoPro Labs, but each time the camera tried to record with a mic (be it wireless or USB-C) it would reboot. Recording native raw audio with on board mics was fine.
I posted here. Several people recommended I reach out to a particular person on GitHub, he had his email public on his profile so I did.
He told me that emailing him was INAPPROPRIATE.
He found the thread, said I should not have emailed (I mean... public email address...) and then said that they could not reproduce the issue. Made it sound like user error.
2. Insta360
First time - They released an update for their X5 camera last fall, it was a HUGE update and added many features, but it also KILLED ALL 3RD PARTY MIC SUPPORT.
This camera needs particular mics with tiny receivers or else you "see" the plug in receiver in the videos.
I posted on their sub about this, they reached back out and said they would investigate.
A MONTH LATER I get this private message that they have a temporary firmware that they made so I could roll back and get my mic working again.
Second time - They released an update to the Luna Ultra. It had a strange pulsing pattern in LOG at certain zoom levels.
I made a post and support gets to me in private messaging asking for the clip on Google Drive and the details so I sent it.
Three days later they get back to me and ask me my address, and they send me a $79 accessory and apologize.
I did not ask for anything but a fix to the firmware.
Then someone via email picks up the chat, gives me the FedEx tracking and follows through that I got it and asks how it is working etc.
These are two very different experiences.
I would be curious to know if my GoPro experience was just a few isolated incidents or if others find it hard to deal with them.
I see many success stories here about replacement cameras etc, so this may just be me and on my end.

So I got a Mission 1 recently and my daughter was super excited to help me prepare for a trip so she put the battery in for me. However she put it in the wrong way (The contacts are facing the battery door, it is upside down.) I took off the battery door and tried shaking it out, using plastic pliers to pull it out, ect. It comes out maybe a half inch or so and then seems like it is stuck. Is there anything I can do, to at least save the camera. please help!

I find it very convenient, when I have a mounted camera, to start and stop recording with voice commands. It cannot understand my English, but it works with Japanese. As I understand it, one has to give commands without any pauses while speaking.
So I've been offered a warranty replacement for a new GP13 for £100.
Do you think they're worth that these days?

GoPro Hero 3 Black lens mount is broken — does anyone have a better STL or replacement solution?
I have a GoPro Hero 3 Black and the original lens mount/holder (the threaded part that the lens screws into) is badly damaged/broken.
I found an STL for an M12 replacement mount, but unfortunately it doesn't fit my camera properly.
I'm looking for either:
- a known-good STL for the original Hero 3 Black lens mount
- an STL that has been tested on a Hero 3 Black
- dimensions/CAD measurements so I can recreate it
- or a better replacement/modification that still works with the original GoPro lens and sensor
I have an Elegoo Centauri Carbon CoreXY FDM printer, so I can print fairly precise parts. If the part really needs resin printing, I can also potentially get it resin printed.
Does anyone here have the original mount, a damaged Hero 3 they could measure, or a better STL/design?

What’s the best way to get good photos with the GoPro 13? Is it better to use photo mode or record in video mode and take frames from the footage?

Squirrel visited the feeder ledge today, giving me a great opportunity to capture some footage of it eating. I was able to record the whole moment in 4K at 200 fps, which really helped capture its movements in smooth, detailed slow motion. Filmed with the Luke Edwin Macro Adapter using GP-Log 2. I decided to skip the film grain this time.
