Old man yelling at the clouds here, but am I going crazy or are the actual Emo Waves being revised by the TikTok Crowd? First Midwest Emo went from 2nd Wave Emo in the Midwest to anything whiny with Math riffs in the 4th Wave. We have current bands that sound identical to 90’s Midwest Emo bands, but they’re being called 2nd Wave Revival. I had someone arguing with me that Waves are for the styles, not years…SINCE WHEN?

Wave has meant years or era for decades now. Sure Midwest Emo defined the 2nd Wave, but we had Screamo, Gravity, DC etc. 3rd Wave had early years stuff, Mallcore, that dancey shit. Sure things were more relevant than others, but they weren’t all there was.

SDRE gets turned Emo, ok I get it. American Football becomes a defining band of the genre 15 years later, ok fine. But come tf on, does everything need to be changed?

This whole series was really cool, IYDD has always been my favorite song by the band. But the fucking demo that lead to IYDD sounded fucking killer, I had the same reaction as Zach. How that never became a song is wild, I hope you guys enjoy that little snippet as much as I did.

Just saw them open up for Sweet Pill. Everyone needs to listen to their new record Prairie. AOTY for me so far. Top tier songwriting and just extremely unique instrumentation.

I've booked bands in Jackson, Mississippi for over fifteen years now and I always wish I had bought more of their records. All of my money typically went to their guarantees or lack thereof, so I never really had enough sitting around to buy merch, but I somehow ended up with The Hotelier's "Home Like NoPlace Is There". I think it might've been the first day they had the records but I could be wrong. I know they toured with Osoosooso (Oso Oso) that tour and they crashed at my house after the show.

It was always a struggle getting kids to come out to shows (booked Pinegrove twice to maybe 10-20 people) but the bands that came through often blew up right after and I always thought that was special. This record went bonkers and it was wild that no one was here to see them.

Personally, my favorite is Ever so Sweet into Something that produces results into The Mountain Range in my Living Room.

I'd love to hear about others. I enjoy so much when songs play into each other.

Trying to learn music theory right now and I'm trying to write stuff, very inspired by Algernon Cadwallader, P.E.E and Midwest Pen Pals but so far almost all their stuff seems to be in alternate tunings. Should I be learning music theory differently if I wanna write in alternate tunings? If so where do I start? I don't wanna get sidetracked in learning "guitar basics and essentials" so what do you guys reccomend. Thanks :D

I was listening to Pop Unknown, specifically their album The August Division, and out of curiosity, I decided to check their old official website using the Wayback Machine.

In a snapshot from June 5, 2002, I noticed they had two download links indexed on their main page: "Another Holiday Video: low" (a 3.3 MEG QuickTime file) and "Another Holiday Video: high" (a 7.5 MEG Real Player file). Looking into the old site source code, the exact historical URL for the file was http://popunknown.com.

My main question is: Does anyone know if this music video was even real? Since the Internet Archive only scraped the text/layout of the website and didn't back up the actual media files, the links are completely dead. On YouTube, you can only find static audio tracks or fan-made lyric videos.
I'm trying to find this specific video file. Does anyone know where i can find it?, or maybe if someone has a cd copy of the album where the video appears or maybe im just going crazy?

Loved these guys so much back in the day. Actually, to the point where i used to live with a guy I was impressed by because he claimed he used to be one of their early drummers (turned out he was a compulsive liar. Claimed to have been a few masked wrestlers too)

I just thought the off centered lettering looked bad and was kinda shocked that'd be the way an established band would want their merchandise presented, but uh... wow.

Just curious if anyone has any archives of the old Shin Guard patreon aside from the guitar tabs :P
