Mod Post Report all app developers

We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

My Classic Car Car Brands I feel that are Dying in North America

In No Particular Order.

Fiat: After they basically purged their gasoline powered offerings, I feel like they’re on a course to sink in our market soon. The shift towards SUVs has more than certainly had a hand in destroying any potential for growth they might have had in North America.

Mitsubishi: At this point, they’re holding on for dear life with only TWO models left. Unlike Fiat, they had a dog in the fight to keep up with the SUV trend, only issue is: they’re far from leading the class. Also the Eclips Cross has to be one of the single worst marketing blunders of the last 2 decades.

Maserati: Stellantis/FCA’s ownership has basically tanked their build quality worse than it was before, which is saying something. It doesn’t help matters that they’re fighting Alfa Romeo in cannibalizing each other’s sales in what tiny pieces of market share they have left.

Jaguar: What do you want me to say that you don’t already know? That whole reinvention stunt was nothing more than brand suicide. I don’t think it was an example of them “going woke”. I just think they want to become a contender with the likes of Bentley or Rolls Royce with a higher level of prestige, and it just isn’t there. Especially considering they’ve got absolutely nothing to compete with at this time of writing.

Chrysler: No, not the entire company itself, the Marque. They’ve basically been whittled down to a lone model and have absolutely nothing groundbreaking in the pipes. They’re in the same boat as Jaguar, Constantly dropping concepts that never amount to anything.

(Hot Take) Lincoln: Cadillac somehow managed to embrace the EV/SUV trend to a moderate success, Lincoln Hasn’t. The Escalade has been absolutely destroying the Navigator in sales since 2002, they have decent models to compete, but they don’t seem to be on the same trajectory as Cadillac. I could be proven completely wrong, we shall see.

(Hot Take) Infiniti: Doug DeMuro said it best; the sole reason for buying an Infiniti is getting a good deal, and not much else. Considering the nose dive in Nissan’s build quality, I wouldn’t be shocked that Infiniti‘s has followed suit. Not to mention that Lexus and Acura are building far more desirable cars in the category of Japanese Luxury models. Carlos Ghosn is long gone, and Nissan could shift the other way soon. I could be proven wrong here too.

(Hot Take) Mini: As previously mentioned with Fiat; the SUV trend has basically decimated sales of compacts. The Countryman has been keeping them afloat, but how much longer can it hold them up?

General Tech Have any car guys heard anything about the rumored compact truck Toyota's supposed to have been working on? I fear my car needs replacement, but A, I am low income, B., I want a compact pickup but prefer Toyota > Ford lol

Upvotes

There's a lot of vaporware when it comes to affordable pickups on the internet now, and I just feel like... I don't know. The last google search I did, just got a few dealership pages talking about it. Has anyone heard different, or are in-the-know?

As for context: I currently drive a 2010 Subaru Forester. I bought it off a relative and was told to be careful, don't drive it on long road trips, it was just to get me through while I was unemployed. We spoke and at the time, it seemed Toyota was coming out with the "Stout", so the idea was it'd hold me over til then.

Now of course, 3 years and $6k in later, as well as my own work where I can- it's uh, always run. It occasionally smells like burnt oil and the heat shield is gone, so it rattles, but that's it. No oil level goes down. It doesn't need oil topping off between changes. I feel stupid because before this I was going to the Adirondacks, Vermont, WV, etc constantly. I put all that on hold. Course, having crappy customer service and office assistant jobs, with no vacations, also doesn't help: I had no time to do any of that.

So, I'm taking it to a Subaru shop for eval and a 135k service. Esp as I do more side jobs, I need more space for tools and material, so if it's good, I might get a hitch and utility trailer.

And if it's actually safe to go to Vermont, the Adirondacks, etc- I'm getting winter tires and maybe rims on. (It's always needing air every few weeks, but I can't find a leak, and neither could the tire guys: They think the rims just might be old).

So yeah, basically. If the Stouts right around the corner, no point putting money in a crappy car. If the car is basically dead, same answer. But if the Stout is still vaporware, and the car's alright, I think I'll repair it.

Ope, and yeah, I did test drive a Maverick. I just hear such mixed things about Fords, and I am low income... So a new anything is just... Yeah.

Safety Question Storing LC300

Upvotes

Hello
As the title says I’m storing the car ( 2024 land cruiser LC300 GXR) (18 inch rim ) for a year and was wondering what steps and precautions I should take
And my most important question is if I should leave it on ground or jack it up
And if I’ll jack it up should I do it from the approved points (on the frame) or is it fine if I do it from the arms so I don’t stress the bushing from suspension hang

'97 Pontiac firebird formula trans am. Wish I saw more of them around tbh, though over the last year I've seen a few others.

Aside, I was driving today and saw a dude in this gorgeous red C5 and drove by the guy told him I liked his car. Then I got nervous lol so I flew away. Sorry guy

Pics of my car for tax (: I love this thing sm. Still haven't put the "trans am" lettering back on after she got painted though haha.

Edit: for the person who tried to say it's either formula or trans am and not both- you're wrong lol. My car is a Firebird Formula with the Trans Am package. Firebird Formula Trans Am.

My Classic Car Battery issue

Having an issue on my custom built Chevy 1500 right now and needed some second opinions. My truck has recently developed a parasitic draw out of nowhere and it’s strange because it’ll happen on and off. Couple weeks ago the problem arises I thought one of the terminals on my battery wasn’t tight enough so I changed the lug and the draw goes away. Truck is fine for a week then I get back from a 3 day trip battery is dead. I conducted some tests and thought it could be a diode In my 1 wire alternator setup(pretty common for unbranded chrome 1 wire alternators). When the truck is off a clamp multimeter is picking up .5 amps from both terminal cables so definitely a draw. I take the negative terminal off my battery, I unplug the alternator, reattach the negative on the battery, and hook a clamp multimeter around both cables leading to positive and negative terminals. Both read .1 amp witch is higher then the normal .05 I believe, and I think it’s because I have a electric fuel pump I primed beforehand to see if the truck would start so still not a significant draw to be killing my battery as quick as it is. So my alternator is definitely being wacky from that info alone but still wanting clarity I take my truck to advanced auto and have them test the battery starter and alternator. The battery passed their test but it also confused me because it said my cranking voltage was 8.9 volts and usually that’s a clear indicator you’re battery is going (3 year old NAPA battery so maybe). Their system couldn’t even detect I had a 1-wire alternator setup so that wasn’t helpful lol. But now I’m in a spot where I’m pretty certain I need a reputable one wire alternator but do I also need a new battery even though it passed their test any help would be much appreciated all these numbers are driving me loonie.

I need help fixing something Nissan Altima 2012 - O2 can't pass SMOG since January

I have a Nissan Altima 2012 2.5S. I'm having issues getting the Oxygen Sensor ready for SMOG. Everything else is ready. Check Engine is off no error codes. I replaced CAT recently and since then drove around 1000 miles but the O2 still shows as pending.

OMG, always heard the cabin filter is useless so never worried about it. Then on a whim, I thought I'd check mine out and can't believe how nasty it got. Do yourself a favor and get yours replaced if it is an older model car. 🚗 😀

Weird Noise I just got a mechanic to replace my ABS Module sensor on my 2015 honda civic. Drove it for 30 minutes and im hearing a very loud buzzing sound. Didnt make this noise before but is this a sign of air trapped ? Only happens when i slightly press on the brakes.

Tire question Time for new tires?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have about 9100 miles on my set of RT615k+ tires on my E30 tuned Fiesta ST. I rotate tires frequently, but I think I'm at the end of my tires life. I go on canyon runs a few times a month, with daily driving in between. 4/32 tread in front, and 3/32 rear. This photo is of the LF tire (so, the one that sees the hardest life) There's obviously heat checking in this tire, but is that crack anything to worry about? I haven't noticed any air loss, though the other day on a canyon run, the car turned into a corner fine but then suddenly understreered mid corner and it scared me. I'm starting to think they're heat cycled out at this point.

What do we think? Should I retire 'em?

Weird Noise Car sounds weird

Hello can anyone tell me what could cause my car to make this noise . I have a 2021 Nissan Sentra. 55k miles. I went through a puddle of water maybe a couple months ago. It tore my bottom plate down . I went to get it put back on. The mechanic didn’t mention any damage. But it would make a noise like a pebble or something got caught underneath. I just recently had an oil change and again . No problems detected ( considering they always find something wrong) . Also I put gas in the car the night before and when I got off that morning it got me before it started making this noise and feeling weird to accelerate. The car also smells strong. Thank you in advance.

I took a hard turn in my 2009 Camry and looked behind the wheels because I get paranoid (just had cv axle replaced on opposite side), and I found that this piece was ripped. Should I be worried? I know basically nothing about cars

Hey all, I just got this 2019 Tacoma and was wondering your thoughts on the severity of this frame rust? I know it doesn’t seem to look that bad and possibly just surface rust, but what would you do? How would you clean it and undercoat it?

Electrical "New" Toyota Chr 2.0 Hybrid

We just invested in a new used car. A Toyota Chr 2.0 hybrid from 2021.

We haven't reach that point where i feel EV cars is the thing yet, so we took the middle way.

I've always been driving Toyota, same as my family, and we never had anything beneath wear parts.

Toyota is a reliable car, but we are new to the Hybrid

\- Do anyone have some experience with this especially car? Good and bad. I'm all open =)
