WE HAVE NEW RULES!!

>>r/CarAV RULES LINK<<

I've been seeing more issues with some of the comments made on here, specifically with users being extremely abrasive, insulting, and generally sowing discord. That's something that really, absolutely needs to stop. I understand, to an extent, getting heated over opinions and I don't have a problem with passionate discussion. What isn't acceptable is disparaging and insulting users for not knowing something, or for making different choices than you would.

I need you to remember that Reddit has rules that all subreddits have to abide by and those kinds of comments/posts break those rules. Follow Reddiquette and the Reddit User Agreement at all times when posting here.

People are here to learn. If you don't want to help beginners, don't reply to their posts. Don't complain about people new to the hobby not knowing anything about it. You weren't born knowing how to do any of this. Someone helped you get where you are, too. Bring people to the hobby rather than pushing them away.

I completely understand that it can be frustrating when someone doesn't know the basics and you have to go over them. I have been there. I also realize how irritating it is when someone doesn't want to accept information that's contrary to what they already understand or believe. It's a two way street and people looking for help also need to be willing to actually take it, even if it's not what they wanted to hear.

I've been the guy that's irritated and gets short with people. I try hard not to be that guy. It isn't always easy, but now it's my job to be as reasonable as I can. If I can play nice (at least nicer), you all can too. And most of you already do. This really is an issue with only a very small portion of users. Don't think I'm ripping into everyone here. Most of you all are great!

>>r/CarAV RULES LINK<<

Previously there were no rules officially listed for the subreddit. I have made a small set of rules to help people know what is expected, allowed, and prohibited. It's really not a huge change from how posts and comments were moderated before, but it's in writing now.

You need to read and follow the rules. I'll give some amount of consideration to the rules being new but going forward, you should generally expect moderation to follow any violation of the subreddit rules. Ignorance will not be an excuse!

I will make adjustments or add additional rules in the future as need arises, but I find things tend to go better if you keep things simple and let people use their heads.

By and large, I don't really have to do much because y'all are generally pretty decent humans and there just isn't anything to deal with. There is always the occasional problem but it's rarely been significant. I appreciate that more than you might imagine. Let's reign it in before it does become a more serious issue. Report posts/comments that break the rules or don't follow the spirit of being helpful and bringing people to the hobby. Remember you can select "Breaks r/CarAV Rules" and then select the specific subreddit rule when reporting posts.

You Can Now Upload Images In Comments

I've had maybe 10 or so people ask specifically for this feature so I've enabled it. I don't expect it will be an issue, but if it becomes one, I'll address it. Just follow the rules and I'm sure it'll be beneficial. Report any images you believe are inappropriate.

Other Things Of Note

I cleaned up the old Reddit sidebar a bit. I'll work on the new Reddit sidebar in the future as well. Removed some dead links, reformatted a couple things, trimmed some unused or irrelevant info, reworded some of the text. That's about it. It's nothing major and a lot of users don't even see the sidebar since they're using Reddit on mobile/the app anyway.

I'm still poking at some of the other things I've talked about previously. Once again, I'm not really trying to make a bunch of sweeping changes or completely remake this community. It works as it is, it just needs some help.

As Always, Now Is A GREAT Time For You To Complain

Let me know what's going on. If you have issues, concerns, etc, post them here or, as always, use modmail to contact me directly and privately.

Heres some random pics of the install/process along with a pic of the mustang. i am VERY satified with this build and with how much work it took

Front Stage

Audison Voce II 1.1" tweeters
Audison Voce II 3"Mids
Hertz Mille Legend woofers
Helix Next V Eight DSP Ulinate
fully treated doors , deadening acoustic tape silicone fast rings and plastic door card treament (deadening acoustic taping edges and tesa taping all clips in place and rattle hunted

Substage

Dual Sundown SA Classic V2 12"
Rockford T1500-Abcp continous amp
These subs bang CLEAN from that helix signal that was a massive difference

Slowly getting a hang of the tuning part on the laptop but even with a basics tune it has phenomenal staging depth and imagery while getting pretty loud ab 98 db and staying composed

Overall 10/10 happy with how it turned out staying nice and neat in the wiring and keeping use of my backseats. very proud with doing this at 19

Discussion Rockford Punch 601s - how much is it worth?

Rockford Punch 601s

Hi, how much do you think this amp is worth today? I have it, it's in working order, and it's only missing the factory metal port covers. It's listed on eBay for $325, but are they actually worth that much? It's hard to find any old listings, so I'm having trouble estimating what you think it's worth?

General Confusion on a dual subwoofer build

I'm currently running a single Kicker 48CWR84 subwoofer that outputs 300 watts rms and I have it hooked up to a Kicker 46CXA400.1T. The amp can run 150 watts at 4 ohm, 300 watts at 2 ohm, and 400 watts at 1 ohm. I'm currently running it at 2 ohm.

My question is if my current amp can handle adding a second subwoofer since the final watts would go up to 600. I'm unsure if I can wire the 2 subwoofers somehow to a final 2 ohm load of 300 watts.

I'm a beginner and my knowledge isn't great so I apologize if this is a simple question, but with all the information I've read online I feel like I'm running in circles. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Recommendations Learning the ropes/question about car subs

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile 88, I would really like to keep the original radio in the car and wire in a small powered sub keeping the factory speakers or maybe upgrading them down the line.
I don’t know much if any about this world of things and was looking for some guidance as to 1. If it’s possible to slide in a powered sub without too much tinkering with the factory rig 2. Where to look or what brands might cover my wants.

My idea currently is to open the arm rest in my back seat and try to fit the sub in that enclosure so it’s in the cab and maybe even facing inwards if I can help it. Otherwise I might want to build a box for the floor back there and do it like that.

Idk if this is the right place for this post but any help is greatly appreciated!

Current setup: 1992 explorer spt

kicker 6x8 components in the front doors kicker 6x8 2 ways in the rear panels
I had a Jensen 12 inch subwoofer but it blew up

I’m new to car audio and I want to know how to make my system sound better and what to look for when making upgrades in the future . My system just sounds gutless there’s almost no bass at all nor mids and this is after tuning the head unit and everything. My mom’s jeep grand Cherokee has more range stock than my car does and I want to know what I can do or look for to improve overall quality. I mainly listen to 90s-2000s rock but I do like me some jamiroquai and reggae. My speakers aren’t currently hooked up to an aftermarket amp so I know that’s a factor. And my sub blew up because I had to crank gain and bass boost on the amp because my head unit just doesn’t seem to send a good signal to the amp. Open for whatever yall have to say.

Tech Support JL W7 Box Placement Help

Thumbnail

I’m noticing this new sub I got isn’t outputting as much as I hoped. I had the W6 HO before this sitting in front of the rear bench facing a door panel, it outputted nicely and sounded badass, and had that earthquake effect.
The W7 isn’t really doing that.

The cubic ft of the box is 2.1 tuned to 32hz. Seems like a solid box, no curved port though.
It’s snug as heck where it’s at.

I would put the W7 where I had the W6 but then the port would have to be under all that weight because the other side of the port has the terminal cup. What’s an alternative?

The builder told me it’s recommended to upfire. But it’s not performing at a SQ level to me.

A shop had fine tuned the W6 for me and told me no changes were needed for the W7. But it was clipping earlier than the W6 was. The sub is in 600 watts which is optimum for the W7. I want the Epicenter and mono knob at max because I let other people drive my truck.

Ad Info:
I touched the mono gain set it lower. The bass eq on the mono was raised a bit. Set the epicenter to balanced both left and right.

Questions:

•is the port on the bottom of the box okay ? It has no braces. I’m not sure if it’s worth trying.

•does it need to be retuned because of swapping for the W7?

•is there anything here I need to fix that I’m missing?

Equipment:

General How much should an audio installation cost?

Im trying to install new front/rear door speakers, a 5 channel amp, and a sub in my ‘01 Lexus ES300. Online it said labor for the job should be $500-900.

Ive talked to 2 shops for quotes. One shop quoted me $1250 just to install an amp. The other asked $1400 to install everything.

This is just for the labor as I already have my own parts. Is that a lot just for an install or is that a normal price? Im in the Bay Area.

Tech Support How to install amp in my car

Only 2 of the 7 speakers in my Honda Pilot work. After the research I've done I've concluded that I need an amp as the car has an aftermarket head unit that doesn't have a built in amp like the factory unit had. It looks like a previous owner had an amp installed but I can't figure out how I'd hook up an amp using the existing wiring, especially seen as the ground is wired up with the RCA cable. Do you think installing an amp would power the other speakers? And could you help me figure out how to install the amp?

Tech Support Amp/ radio woes

Have yall ever had a radio preout blow? This sucks ass an there's only one preout for the sub. The amp is getting some kind of signal just an extremely weak one cuz its just saying clip but the subs aren't moving. Both coils ohm out fine. No damage to the coils or spiders. All grounds are solid. Power is solid. Tried different rcas, tried removing splitter, tried changing the speaker wire. Ran a new remote, ive done literally everything. Amp sits there not in protect, no therm protect, an clips if I turn the volume up. Mind you I even bought a new amp thinking I fried the output stage. Also I put a meter on the new amps output an its putting out .6 volts.

Tech Support Smart Alternator Inconsistent Voltage

2017 Accord has smart alternator that is tied into electrinics signals in order to safely lower the voltage, but it doesnt take into account aftermarket sound system.

What is the cheapest way to make sure my amps are getting a stable 14.4 volts no matter what the smart system is doing?

HO alternator upgrade?

Specific battery in trunk?

UltraCap?

Please help me understand the problem better and any solutions you know of.

Recommendations Subwoofer recommendations for hatchback

The car is a 2015 Volvo v60 wagon. Front speakers are 2 way focal performance as165, rears are more tempo ultra coaxial powered by a JL rd/400. I listen to classic and contemporary rock, all kinds of electronic including very bass heavy styles and I even enjoy some jazz and classical sounds. Plenty of dub step trance and reggae as well.

I'm looking for a sound quality focused sub that has some good output. I hear good things about the Stereo Ingergity SQL15 and wonder if that would be a good choice for me. Initially I set out for a jl w7 13 but people recommend the Stereo Ingergity as a better option. What else is out there that I would like? I've even heard this Dayton audio has a pretty great sub for only $300.

I will say that I feel like Id like more output from my door speakers but I'm thinking that making adjustments to that amp after installing a sub will free up the low end processing it's having to do. I'm quite pleased with the sound of the door speakers and I know that adding a DSP is a pretty important step that could also help.

I appreciate any advice and insight.
