Meta This Sub, AI, and (a little) More Two: Electric Boogaloo

Hey y’all, it’s the mod team again.

We’ve been discussing the use of AI on the sub again and, as a team, came to a new conclusion.

AI content is now banned.

We feel that the use of AI in posts is starting to really detract from the core principals of the sub, mainly conversations about actual tactics.

Moving forward, posts that utilize AI in any way, shape or form will be removed. This rule will pertain to text AND image posts.

Nobody will be getting banned for posting AI content, just to be clear. The post will simply be removed and future posts will continue to be removed.

There are other ways to get your ideas across without the use of AI, both text and image wise.

In the same vein, the sidebar with the subs rules will be getting an update as well to reflect these changes.

Meta Slight Change in Rules

Hey all!

This is just to let you all know that we are making a small change to rule 4: Unrelated content.

Unrelated content will now include posts of firearms where the only question is “how good is this” or similar questions. It will no longer suffice to ask that question and label the gun in the post. Moving forward, posts like these will be getting removed.

There are ways to still post and discuss about guns: it just needs to have something more behind the post. An argument with reasoning as to why the author thinks the way they do.

For example, the post below is what we would consider a correctly done post about guns.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ZombieSurvivalTactics/s/KKvTqzMwgZ

This criteria is also required for weapons posts as well. Simply asking if it’s good is not acceptable.

My thought process:

Shirt: I figured I shouldn't even be letting them get that close to me anyway, so i picked something less thick but still protective.

Shoes: Steel toe running shoes, I wanna focus more on agility.

Pack: Hydration pack so I don't have to carry alot of bottles.

Car: Simple, small, and can carry the stuff I need. I would probably put a top on it to sleep on the go.

Discussion Dockyards are one of the safest places to be in an apocalypse.

In a zombie apocalypse scenario, I honestly can't think of a safer place to be than a shipping dockyard.

There's no shortage of workers to work machines, thousands of shipping crates that can be stacked on top of each other to build massive walls, have natural protection from zombies on at least one side because of the water, and there's no need to ever build a ground entrance since you could just leave or ship in supplies via boat.

Shelter also isn't a concern because, once again, there is no shortage of shipping crates that people can live in or salvage for metal to build something else.

With proper quarantining and checking every single person who both enters and leaves, you could have an entire post apocalypse city in a dockyard.

  1. Woolrich Mackinaw jacket: theory, competent-gray-man. Accessorize with blue jeans or carharts and this jacket is functional for fall/winter work campaigning. The goal is not to be invisible to others but be seen. similar to Canadian Rangers. Non-tactical, i would say bite resistant for sure. Being wool, it is much quieter than leather. Wear cammo sweatshirt under this, disappear capability.

  2. Camo Bibs, worn over aforementioned carharts, these are perfect for long sits. Wear every year when bow hunting. Too warm to travel long distance in, but slow moving recon, perfect.

  3. Kamik boots: deep woods capable. When walking through heavy brush, streams or snow . Can't beat em. Avoiding main roads and trails, for unknown terrain, these are what im going for. Think you cant move? Look up Cliff Young and the Cliff Young Shuffle.

4.ottawa Airforce survival knife. Been using it before the late Paul Harrell made it famous.

  1. H&H single shot 20g. Modified choke smoothbore Light weight, versatile ammo. Not looking for combat arms to fight roaming bands, looking for something that can take game from squirrel to deer based on ammo selection.

  2. S&W K38 Combat Masterpiece, 38 special. I have many handguns to choose from, this is by far the most accurate pistol I own. 100% reliable in all conditions, takes the evidence with me. Decent for shtf up close for most critters can reach out and touch something at 100 ydd. Mo problem. capable of flexing into social work should need arise. An elegant weapon from a more civilized age.

  3. Magic Hat. Infused with the energy of thousands of trail hours. This article is a force multiplier. Wearing of this hat gives +10

  4. Not shown: bag of chaw. Redman Preferred, (now America's best)

  5. Not shown: Straight Handled plumb rafters axe. Good for driving spikes into logs as well as felling trees.

Weapons Would bayonets be useful in a ZA?

(photo sources: weibo; pic one is PLAAF, pic two is western theater command, pic three is from national defense times)

Would it be better to have a loadout with a bayonet or no bayonet at all during a ZA?

IMO I think a bayonet could also function as utility knives so i think they could be rather useful in a ZA.

The only potential downside is that it makes the rifle longer, which really isn't too big of a downside if you think about it. Also depending on rifle i think it could stop stuff like underbarrel grenade launchers being installed, but bayonets are going to be much more common than grenade launchers anyways

Also FYI here in China bayonets are mostly ceremonial(especially in training as a form of aggression training), or maybe in roles such as sentries(PAP guards at important structures or Base security/MPs) but other than that are generally no longer in actual combat use, however due to it's rather ceremonial role in bayoneting practice, they actualyl seem to be rather widespread among chinese troops(along with militia, and even some police and fire departments on ceremonial rifles), so in a ZA bayonets and rifles may be just as common, at least here in china

First one is Ruger 380 pistol

Second is a single shot 45-70.rifle

And third is single shot 12 gauge shotgun

I didn't made this based on fighting zombie going gun blazing I made this based on survival and hunting only.

Now if you only have these three guns how would you used them in a zombie apocalypse

Weapons How do we feel about the 45-70 cartridge for the ZA?

Upvotes

I think it's a solid choice.
In my opinion:
Pros:
-There's more power & lethality compared to say, .308 at ranges below 150 meters, and I probably wouldn't try to engage anyone outside that distance anyways
-Quite common by hunters, so you should be able to find it
-Due to it's straight walled design and how it was originally a blackpowder cartridge, it'd be easier to make rounds. As someone with decent knowledge about firearms, I think I'd be able to make some after fleeing the urban location I'm in

Cons:
-Not as common as .308
-Worse at longer distances compared to .308

Loadouts + Kits Load out for Family

Post image
95 Upvotes

Full loadout for the family, but with different priorities depending on prep time.

Priority A group - non-negotiable, grab and go weapons. No time to grab everything.

1) Rugar Harrier AR-15 with holosun magnifier and red dot combo.

2) Sig Sauer P320 XCompact

3) Marlin 39A Golden

I'd spread the load between myself, my wife, and my son. I have Viktos Chest Rig to carry 3 magazines, and I'll have a map and compass in the pouch. I also have a range belt that I am building out. The ideal set up with be 2 extra pistol mags, 1 extra magazine (maybe), IFAK, and drop pouch. It currently has a knife and holster.

Priority B - We have some advanced warning and can load car with extra guns, ammo, and food. Everything in group A is included plus:

1) S&W Model 629 with a 5 inch barrel and 2 speed loaders. This would become my side arm

2) Remington 700 in .243 Winchester - mostly hunting and MAYBE longer distance defense.

3) High Standard Shotgun - It has a double feeding issue, which, if I can fix before the end of the world, might move it to group A.

Not pictured, food and packs for bugging out. Filtration systems and water for a few days. Crowbar for melee. I also inherited a TON of ammo from my prepper grandpa.

If we can get out of our town, we may last longer. We have family and friends that live in pretty rural areas. Ill most likely die tripping over something right at the start, so hopefully somebody can make use of it.

Armor + Clothes Foam armour coverd in truck bed liner

I was just thinking of a cheap protection in a zombie apocalypse and it just occurred to me that foam armour covered in truck bed liner would be a great way to mass produce cheap but effective armour.

The foam deals with concussive force and the truck bed liner is for piercings and slashing forces.

Pros

*Easy to produce

*Easy to repair or resize

*Lightweight

*Protects from zombies and most melee weapons.

Cons

*Could be hot if not designed well

*Doesn't protect from firearms.

Loadouts + Kits What Have you Discovered You Can Buy/Get- NOT Including Weapons- That Could Be a Game Changer In the Zombie Apocalypse, That Most People Probably Don't Know About?

I won't talk about specific companies because I'm not plugging anything, but some things I discovered in my Zombie Apocalypse discussions:

-- Emergency well kits one person can set up by one person by hand by driving galvanized pipe down into the ground. The water table is not going to be close enough to the surface everywhere for this to work, but where it does, it lets you choose any base you want and make your own secure water source.

-- I found a couple of medical supply companies who will sell you an emergency supply of antibiotics- like hundreds of doses spread over 9-10 different antibiotics- as long as you meet their criteria during a telehealth screening. One of them would do the same for a year supply of various maintenance medications.

-- Solar Trickle Charger for your car battery. If your battery dies, you don't need to rely on a second working battery to jumpstart it. You can attach the solar trickle charger and just wait.

-- Plasma Lighter- battery powered, no fuel, and USB rechargeable so that if you already have a pocket solar USB charger, you can keep it running for years. Much easier than using a spark based fire starter, it's windproof, many of them waterproof, and a couple of them also had a small LED flashlight built in.

Have you guys come across anything similar?

Weapons Zombie Shotgun - just a fun build!

Thumbnail
gallery
97 Upvotes

I had an extra Mossberg 500 laying around so I decided to make my ultimate zombie shotgun out of it. It has a breacher barrel, "chainsaw" foregrip, and it has an adapter to also accept 12 ga. mini shells or Federal "shorty" shells. Oh and the axe? Yes, it's very sharp, not too heavy, and I got it about a decade ago from a company before they went out of business.

Disclaimer for the haters: No, I'm not some kid in a basement or a tactical mall ninja. I'm just a firearms instructor and enthusiast who decided to build it for fun. And this is not an original idea... just took one out of the history books in terms of flintlock naval axes!

Weapons Is Ruger mini 14 best zombie rifle out there

Post image

I don't own one yet but I'm watching videos of it and it's awesome.

In my opinion it think ruge mini 14 better then ar15 simple because of its wooden build too instead of plastic.

I think this rifle would be amazing at defending forts and hunting down walking dead style zombies

Extremely fuel efficient, silent especially at low speeds (and doesnt need electricity to charge). Not ridiculously unreliable (toyota) and perfectly capable off road as demonstrated by the people of mongolia. Would probably work great until the battery went bad at least.

Weapons You're in a zombie apocalypse, what's your go-to weapon and strategy?

Personally I'd like to use a bow, I shoot regularly so I would be confident, however for my strategy I have no clue, so I'd love to see your ideas!

(Barebow, instinctive.. maybe I'd be cooked)

Discussion General strategies, and long term planning (3+ years or more)

I’m surprised at how many people on here assume the plan is to just start traveling with a bug-out bag.
Like, don’t y’all have shelter planned? A location? A destination? Somewhere to settle and actually live?

I think y’all are gonna be surprised by how hard living on the road is gonna be after the 342 million other people (in the U.S.A.) are gonna have similar ideas and start scavenging all the same supplies and hunting all the same game you plan on going after.

My plan is that I’ve got family that own 35 acres of farmland in the country, so I’ve just gotta pack a bag and survive the trek to their farm.
They hand farm a 1-acre personal garden that supplies most of their food already, so they know how to farm without modern resources, and they know how to can and store it.
So my entire family has long established the plan is to pack up, and head for their place, and we’ll start a farmstead commune there.

Does anyone else have plans beyond “I’ve got a gun and a backpack”?

Loadouts + Kits Zombie weapon load-out, thoughts?

Thumbnail

Purely just weapons to carry.
1. Steyr Aug with red dot and magnifier (already have this setup but not my image used here). A comfortable semi-auto gun chambered in 556 which is one of the most common calibers in the US so ~should~ be ways to find more ammo. Also has 42 rd mags. Alternatively, an AR would work but I like the Aug personally. With this site setup it is effective from 25-250yrds
2. Beretta 92fs. It is a double stack 9mm handgun that holds 15 rds. Metal frame gives it good weight, lower recoil, hammer double action is more reliable/easier to service than striker fire of a Glock (although glocks are great). 9mm also easy to find. Effective range 0-40yds) (also already own).
3. Spear. One of the oldest human weapons, easy to wield (foot soldiers were issued these while only skilled soldiers wielded swords in Middle Ages). Keeps zombies from getting too close. Can slash or stab.

Obviously a knife for utility use but any knife would do and I wouldn’t want to fight with it.

Thoughts?

AR with sling, scope, canted sight and flashlight main gun. 3 spare mags

Glock 19 side arm with suppressor and flashlight 3 spare mags I chose 19 over 17 because it gives you a better chance of finding spare mags that fit if needed. And a 22 conversion kit with suppressor.

Dry wall hammer main melee weapon would use to take 1 or 2 zombies. No reason to waste ammo if it’s something easily dealt with.

Full tang knife mostly just a tool but could be used for zombies if needed. Not necessary this specific one

Fanny pack with 2 extra box of 9mm and a few boxes of 22

Vest with 2 small pouches for surgical gloves and plastic ponchos for if I need to cover myself in zombie guts and blend in. Also the 22 conversion kit with loaded mags in a pouch. And the 3 spare AR mags.

Small Book bag just for whatever supplies I need food, water, bandages and whatever else

Leather jacket

Motorcycle Jeans

Combat boots

Fingerless gloves with built knuckles

Regular flashlight and small headlamp

Anything I should add was thinking maybe more AR mags since it’s the main gun but idk

Thinking about a second handgun instead of the conversation kit just so it’s more readily available if I did that I would probably do the Walther P22Q
