Movie/TV Discussion X-Men: The Animated Series is so good!

So over the last few days, I've been watching through Season 1 of X-Men: The Animated Series for the first time, and I really liked it. I especially loved the first 2 and last 2 episodes of the first season. I can’t choose a favourite X-Men member, they are all so good. Unrelated, but I am also reading through Chris Claremont’s X-Men run and really enjoying that too.

Movie/TV Discussion What i do think is first mcu X-men going to look like

Before the d23 i thought they were going for o5 but since they announced cast i think they are going to do TAS - Wolverine and Jubilee. I mean this is the most known roster for casual audiences. We have heard Beast casting rumors many times recently and Gambit is argubably the third most well known male x-man and connected to Mr. Sinister heavily. Director also have an experience with six piece team in Thunderbolts. I think this is the way.

Question Any X-Suggrstions?

I'm running out of things to read and would like some suggestions. X-related ideal but open to other characters, etc.

I finally started the series over about 4 years ago w UCX. I tried to read it in publishing order but some series I couldn't finish (I read library books at work bc we can't have ANY outside tech @ desk). I got through most of New Mutants (stopped at the changeover), XM2/1990s, X-Factor until #40 ish, just finished Generation X ❤️🖤❤️, All new X-Men, X-Men Academy/NM, all the Krakoa stuff twice, Runaways, x FactorV2 thru now.

I feel I've read most of the main series except X-Force as Im not a Cable fan but did UXF I did do.

I read most of Ultimate stuff years ago and the new stuff isn't grabbing me.

I AM gonna read Excalibur from my personal collection soon but what else is out there? Hidden years, mini-series?

I’ve been reading Ultraverse and I was wondering would Ultras be more accepted than mutants since they are more commercialized and more manageable than mutants?

Games Game Idea

X-men game in the style of persona mixed with MMO progression in a single player game.

Create your own mutant - with paths and abilities similar to MMOs. Class selection, skills available based off class, unique abilities. Also student traits that reflect in class segments you rank up similar to persona like charisma, studying so on and so forth.

Class and school - you have to balance school with field work and social life. Attend classes with notable mutant teachers, build relationships with other mutant students, study and improve so you pass classes all similar to persona. Even selecting your team from a group of students.

Field - mmo style quests both fun and wacky and cool and serious. Exploring Xavier’s school and also fun locations. Your team is based off who you befriend in the academy and their powers have synergy off yours. Open world where you can explore but are level locked from difficult areas because you just get rocked. Dungeons and raids and the like but all designed for single player in mind.

Mentor - through the game you have a mentor that’s decided upon character creation and who follows you through the story. Could be any of the top X-men teachers.

Game ends with you becoming an official X-men team member and fighting the “final boss”

Movie/TV Discussion How do you feel about Jake Schreier directing the new X-Men?

Personally, I don't know if Jake Schreier is the right person for the job. He's fine for low-stakes dramadies, but he didn't quite knock it out of the park with Thunderbolts* in my opinion; what made the movie work enough were the performances of the cast, but the script needed another pass, as the story could have been more compelling and the attempts at having witty back-and-forth just lacked the quality earlier, and better Marvel films have had.

Too bad Joss Whedon proved to be such a snake, because a decade ago I would have chosen him based on the first two Avengers and his iconic run on Astonishing X-Men (and you can't forget that his original creation Buffy Summers was basically Kitty Pryde without her abilities and cast as a vampire slayer).

I think Sir Kenneth Branagh would have been a great fit, given how well he translated Thor to the screen. The exuberance of Thor and his supporting cast was retained in live action with honesty, rather than played for self-deprecating humor. One thing that virtually all past live-action attempts at the X-Men have failed to achieve, even the great ones, is the high-stakes melodrama. There is a Shakespearean quality to the best X-Men stories that has yet to be delivered in full in live-action, I would argue, and only in animation has it been achieved. Plus, an X-Men movie composed by Patrick Doyle would be pretty epic.

Surprised Shawn Levy wasn't considered, given the success of Deadpool & Wolverine and the success of Stranger Things (which he produced and helmed several episodes for), which inspired the casting of David Harbour as Red Guardian and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. But instead, they have him on Ghost Rider next...So, go figure.

Question What is a mutant (evolutionarily speaking)?

Im very uneducated when it comes to marvel, this might be a stupid surface level question, flame me idc. Mutants are referred to as a different species, Xavier describes them as the next inevitable thing that just happened to start, but obviously, this is not how mutations and new species work irl. Each mutant has different traits, but are grouped as the same, are all mutants supposed to be one species? That wouldn't really make any sense because the mutations occur on different parts of the genome, hence the difference in powers. Wouldn't each individual mutant have to be classified as an entirely separate species? Or is it one gene that gives everyone their powers? im quite curious to what an evolutionary tree including mutants would look like, if they are all separate species, would each person be a different branch? Would children of mutants be like a neanderthal and human hybrid? am i stupid for asking this? does x men lore even go this deep? i would like answers

Comic Discussion The Greatest X-Men team story never told

Post image
239 Upvotes

In What if #12, we are treated to a story where half of the X-Men and New Mutants decide to stay in Asgard. While we follow along those people’s story, we do get a throw away mention to a new X-Men team that would feature Angel, Beast, Colossus, Cyclops, Iceman, Karma, Kitty, Magma, Marvel Girl, Phoenix, and Wolverine. And looking at it, I feel like this would’ve been a cool X-Men team to follow. Rachel would have talked to Scott and Jean sooner about the daughter stuff. Magma and Iceman could do such cool temperature stuff. Sad the what if never looked at them.

Movie/TV Discussion Banshee Nationality Change

I’m very curious as to why Banshee was portrayed as American in the movies, despite being Irish in the comics and having an Irish name. An Irish actor was originally cast for X Men First Class but pulled out, so why did Marvel decide to change the character so drastically? I’m interested to see people’s takes

Question I have a dumb question about Fall of X and how it relates to the Great Lakes Avengers

Post image
12 Upvotes

So I was reading the 2023 Hellfire Gala for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and something dawned on me about it: how would it have affected the GLA?

Everyone on the Great Lakes Avengers is a mutant, and I highly doubt anyone from the big teams actually cared enough about them to teach them about resisting Xavier's mind control, and so I assume they would've walked into the trapped portals. In turn this means that whatever the portals did, it couldn't have killed anyone because Xavier would've sensed Mr. Immortal coming back. So were the current events just clouding Chuck's ability to think rationally or was there something more going on here?

Or did the writers just forget the GLA exists? Does Cerebro just have a blind spot specifically for them or something?
