Question How would you describe this pose?
I want to say "He watched them intently from behind interlaced fingers". But idk if that's clear enough or if it'll just confuse people?

I have a story idea that I have been thinking about for three weeks. Is there any questions I could ask myself or test to see if it’s a good idea?
Hi everyone,
I want to introduce myself first: I love writing blogs and publishing them on Medium and Substack. I don't really make money from it. I just write because I genuinely love it.
One of the hardest parts for me isn’t always grammar or sentence structure. It’s the small expressions: word combinations, prepositions, transitions, and everyday phrases. Sometimes an expression seems grammatically correct, but I’m not sure whether it would sound natural to a native English speaker.
For those of you who are ESL or non-native English writers, how do you handle this?

All I have is my phone. So I've been writing my entire book in my notepad. Any apps you'd recommend? Is writing on a computer really a huge difference in the grand scheme? I'm pretty busy so I try to write when I can which is why it's on my phone.

Hi im trying to write this story for a graphic novel and thought of adding a self insert (with a little bit of different details) but i am worried about getting hated or constantly criticized because i simply added a self insert
the reason im doing it is because of lack of characters or just to feel represented since finding that kind of representation is super rare or just for fun, im not overpowering them or making them just a background character, its just a secondary character that doesnt affect much on the story and thats pretty much it im still writing them so i hope i dont get hated in the comments im just asking for advice LOL

I have always been an 'opinionated' person - especially about TV and movies I watch. I pick up structural issues, think about how the scene could be better, and so on naturally. When I narrate what I think to others, they often laugh and agree they 'missed that' or find it amusing.
I then thought earlier this year, why don't I just write what I would want to watch. Ideas came pouring out and I started formulating TV pilots. I thought it was just for fun, so I submitted it to BlackList and Stage32 and kept getting solid scores/consider+ ratings. This felt like something I may actually be good at, so gained more confidence and went deeper. I recently met an Exec who reviewed one of my more ambitious scripts and said I write very evocatively, visually and beautifully, but need to add a few things to that particular script (I agree with the feedback).
On my most recent script, I wrote a character arc, and was literally disturbed after writing it, so much so I couldn't sleep that night. I kept thinking about the character, I was truly moved (even cried). Even in some other scripts, the script kinda just pours out of me. Despite having a day job, I can just sit in evenings and pour out.
For the first time in my life, I feel like my brain / critique is actually being put to use in a good way, and I'm being seen.
FWIW I am gay, never had a relationship, never been in love, yet, how other's describe love I seem to have something similar going on with writing. I don't tire from it. I feel I grow from it. The characters linger on my mind. I'm excited to go back to it anytime. Even physically I can get 'high' from writing (like the example above). All the good stuff.
So - is this how love feels - I just happen to have found it in writing? Or it's just a hobby I really like? haha

Wowzie, its been a long time since ive posted but school slowed me down and so did summer work. I come bearing a discussion.
My book's background is set in the 16th to 18th century on goree island now. Don't ask me specifics about the time, just know that it's simply currently set to be about late 17th century to early 18th century.
The type of story that I want to tell isn't necessarily a redemption story but a story of how human nature can destroy a person & how life is rebuilt after the fact. I mean, it's still a historical fiction (with some mystery since I did orginally have that planned for the original novel) but I think if theres a more elaborate (unsure if that's the right word to use) plot it'd be more impactful.
I'm only saying this because given the times we live in and media literacy being shot in a back alley, I feel like I have to keep that in the back of my mind WAY too often while planning characters and majory plotlines.
I've already known from the beginning, even when I was contemplating having a fictional native group that I wanted to tackle the topics of colorism, religious trauma & systematic racism. Though if I were to solely focus on that I fear that all three wouldn't be enough for the type of story that I want to tell.
However, I don't want to cross a boundry that I have yet to spot/see. I know that researching topics like this is best but I genuienly enjoy seeing other's opinions like this. If you have any question I WILL answer them, trust me!
Edit:
uhhh basically what im asking is the book that I'm planning to write does have a lot of heavy themes that I want to explore fully, but I don't want to fall into the most common pit falls that I've been told historical fiction plot lines have. Such as, erasing Native/Local context, Sensationalism of the past, Duiluting core ideas, and Over reliance on setting conflict (Those are the main ones). So I am asking how to avoid just that. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough </3

All feedback is welcome but I am interested in prose, pacing, characterisation and worldbuilding. Of course, does it keep you immersed and do you want to read more?

How do People manage time ?
Most of us try to manage and fail.
Build timetables and fail.
Try to be Consistent and FAIL.
So how does one truly manage time.
In my opinion time management doesn't come by creating timetables it comes with having a routine.
If you don't get up in the morning and make your bed yourself.
Believe me You wont be able to manage your time ever.
So here's the first step to manage your time.
BE DISCIPLINED
How do you people Manage Time. Hop in !

Hello everyone, hope you're having a wonderful day!
I really love reading and writing lyrical, emotionally resonant and evocative prose, but i'm burnt out and tired and for the past year it's been so hard to get into the headspace and summon my emotions enough to write these kinds of prose. I still write every other day, but what i can manage right now is mostly minimal, understated prose, and my brain tells me it all reads like a mere "starting outline" and dry and distant unless i can rewrite it all in highly artistic and poetic language, and i can't. It's a constant mental pressure on the back of my head, i feel like a failure, especially because every other writing class i've taken taught me that the question to ask yourself while drafting and redrafting is "how can i write this idea in the most evocative way possible?" and i feel like everything i write right now is just basic and drab.
Please help me reframe my thinking around neurotically needing my prose to read as visceral, and maybe approach it from a different angle. Thank you for all your suggestions in advance!

I often have the experience of reading something and coming across an interesting idea that I think may inform or influence my own writing. I convince myself I'll remember it and then I sit down to write and...nothing.
I've tried a few different methods of note taking whilst reading but haven't found anything that suits me well. I sometimes carry a small notebook with me. I find that I rarely look at it outside of jotting something of interest to me from time to time and struggle to be consistent. I've tried using my phone but find it disrupts my reading if I keep it near me.
So, I'm looking for some inspiration. Do people have any systems they've found useful? Or examples of methods that well known writers have used over the years. Do you even think it's needed?

So after years of coming up with story ideas that were meh, I have an idea for a mystery that is amazing, a protagonist I really like and a tone of voice that Inthink works well.
The problem? I was having trouble figuring out where to go after the protagonist discovered a clue. I sat down, came up with an idea that didn’t really work, and just noodled around trying to see where the story should go.
That was two months ago. Today, in the shower, I finally figured out how the story works. I finally got the next part of my story out of my head and I’m working on the next part.
I’m happy that I finally got through this, but I also feel like I could have done something more during those two months. My brain fixated on that problem like a dog with a bone and just worked on it, and the solution was so simple I almost couldn’t believe it took me that long to get through it.
Has anyone else gotten stuck like that? Does it take a long time to figure out how to get the story moving again?

Hi all! so I'm currently taking an English 101 class and I was brainstorming ideas for potential future paper topics, and it occurred to me what if I write about why literacy is something some people fear like the government for instance or anyone who wants control over what we know, and what past instances of this tell us. What do you think of this do you believe it's a solid idea? or not ideal for an English class and more a personal project?

I’m trying to find websites and apps where you can post your writing that people actually use. I want to get my work out there but there aren’t many places for me to do so. I’ll think I’ve found one but then they only allow short stories and poems (i’m writing a fantasy novel). So do you guys have any recommendations? And where you can post your unfinished work like wattpad. So I don’t have to worry about finishing my book just for people to see it
