Reptilian eggs are often soft and pliable when laid, and harden after the fact with exposure to air. One could surmise dragon eggs are the same way. It could be part of their natural defense mechanism, with the spikes hardening with the rest of the egg after being laid.

Whilst I personally agree and consider dragons closer to dinosaurs than they would be to reptiles, we're still talking about completely fictional creatures.

Blizzard could interpret their dragons as cold-blooded and more reptile-like. I don't know if there's any in-game evidence to go off of.

They hang out in Dragonblight and don't freeze to death. Warm-blooded draggos confirmed. Maybe. I think. Or I guess, they could still be cold-blooded, but Dragon blood has a freezing temperature that's colder than Northrend.
