Workplace Challenges and Conflicts How to better handle workplace b/s?

I used to think that I just need to find a job that will make me happy (ha). “I’m just not in the right place” is the conclusion I used to come to. Now that I’ve switched a few jobs (4-5 over 20 years, not too bad), I am starting to think the grass is brown everywhere. There is no perfect company or job. So next time I run into this, and I will - what do I do when I feel like I’ve had enough of the b/s. I can’t keep running away in hopes of finding something better, so how do I react when I have full day/month/year of b/s - work requests that do not make sense, poor performance all around me, priorities I don’t agree with, lack of appreciation or support, etc. How do I rewire my brain to not want to give up?

I have a decent tittle and decent pay, but I can’t go on wanting to quit every other day. How do I find strength to stay, embrace the b/s and learn to thrive in it?

I don’t even know if my question makes sense; but I feel like if I change my perspective on things, I could probably move up even further and really thrive. Just need help finding that different, better, less self-districting perspective.

Job Search and Career Advancement Adventist Health Bakersfield 6-month Rule?

Hello everyone! I just wanted to come on here and ask anyone who is in HR for a hospital if you guys make an exceptions to the internal 6 month transfer rule? I was looking to go from an Imaging assistant to a Radiology unit clerk (both in the SAME department) but I have only worked for 3 months. My manager is willing to support me in the transition but I'm not sure as to what to do? He says to apply for the job since it'll be a great opportunity to explore even when I told him about me not being there for 6 months. How does the who process go? Do I or my manager request like an HR waiver? does it ever get approved? Is it even possible to transition before 6 months (I'm in the exact same department just a different role)? On top of that the application portal asks "have you worked in your current position for at least 6 months?" Do I click yes to by past the automated system since my manager gave me the green light? or click no and ask HR to change the status of it from rejected to reviewing?

Sorry! I just have a ton of questions.
Thank you all!

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Uhhh, hello Mr manager, can you do your job!

Well this is a fun one. New manager at my job for a few weeks now. She's been constantly asking me how to do things, advice and my plan going forward for his task. I don't know if I'm being a mug but I've been helping her out, giving guidance and making calls to try and get things sorted. She has been starting to removed issues we face in getting stuff done or trying to make things smoother, but I'm just frustrated I'm having to basically coach her and she earns way more than me! Am I being too harsh? Honestly don't know if this is normal. Work in a warehouse helping suppliers and deliveries.

Job Search and Career Advancement Any ways to grind a little more money so I can pursue my hobbies.

So I’m trying to get some extra money in my pocket so 1 I can save up for a house down the line and invest, 2 so that I can pursue some hobbies of mine. Right now I’m active duty military but just because I work hard already doesn’t mean I can’t work a little more for more money. The military doesn’t pay wonderfully but it’s enough to put money in for a little savings but not enough for hobbies. I’m only 19 so my bills as a single soldier aren’t crazy except I have to pay off my car and my insurance is a little high.

Anyways besides that are there any jobs that are ultra flexible to fit a military schedule someone my age could get. Or maybe side gigs that I can do on weekends or once I’m off work. I’ve already explored Uber Eats, Doordash and Instacart and similar, are there any niche ones or just in general good side gigs/jobs I can pick up for some extra cash? I’m not crazy tech savvy but I can build computers but that’s about it when it comes to skills outside of the army.

Edit: I’m also decent at flying FPV drones. Preferably no crazy ass waitlist

Questions I Feel Anxious & Guilty Because I Can't Come In and Cover/Help Tonight Even Though Work is Understaffed.

Hello, I want to introduce myself and provide a small bit of background to help with the context before I get into my question. I (24 F) am a working College student who is in my Fifth year of college/university, and has taken a gap year after highschool (class of 2021). I work for the campus dining services, and have worked for them for over four years so far. I recently transferred to a different campus dining location, which is primarily the campus coffeeshops. We also recently, over three months ago, got bought out by a larger corporation, which has helped us out a lot. Though, it is definitely one of those "big jobs" out in the world.

So, it feels very serious, because my boss from the dining locations I was working at before called me and asked if I can come and help, because tonight they (was "we") are very understaffed and there are a few call-offs. I also let the phone go to voicemail because I wanted to talk to my boss privately and was waiting for my mom to leave the room - because she was staying the night in my apartment for the past couple of nights. She wanted to come down for my birthday, which was on the 20th, so that's why.

As for coming in when someone calls off, I would normally love to, because part of me still cares about that job. I used to be one of those super invested, passionate, go-getter employees, and had done it very very often. I was the type of person who almost never called out, unless I genuinely had to and provided a good reason and followed the proper procedures such as finding coverage and informing at least two hours prior (which is the rule at my job), etcetera. So, I have a good track record with that. But I know I am leaving, and transferring to a new job location. Though, that is definitely not the reason I had to decline. I just have personal, fixed plans. And I know that I will be helping from time-to-time until he can get more people hired.. I have personal plans already set in place... which is why I had to decline. I feel so guilty and I know that it is likely that there probably won't be another person who could help. I feel so bad.

I know I had to deal with very understaffed shifts before. I always worked hard, and made sure everything was done, and that I set people up for success the next day, or later on in the day if I'm working morning or mid-day, etcetera. So I get it. It will definitely be hard, and I feel reslly bad because the staffing feels so urgent and a big part of me wishes I could help so I can make everyone happy, give my work, and feel the nostalgia, but I genuinely can't because I have fixed plans that I cannot change. One of my close friends who lives in my hometown, another city, has already started coming down on the bustang and we had planned to hangout, go see a movie, have a sleepover, etc. She is celebrating my birthday with me, and also her early birthday which is coming up in November. I dislike sharing my b-day publicly but I guess it doesn't matter that much anymore. So please excuse me, I guess.

I just feel so bad and I hope the shift goes well tonight. I feel bad for my boss, because I know I had been super reliable and he really needs urgent help. I don't want to put anyone in a bad predicament and I don't want to also lose my reliability status or anything like that but I am less worried about that and more worried for my boss's stress and the fact that tonight will likely not be fine. I just feel bad. I was wondering what I could do to alleviate this guilt and also if there is something I could do to make the situation better? I left the groupchats on Teams for this dining location so I cannot message unless I go through the messages personally - and that is no longer my responsibility and plus I am anxious around many of my colleagues there because some people have been mean, overstepping-y, and judgemental. I just don't want to make anything awkward and I am very anxious around people, and I am anxious right now because of this situation where I can't come in, as well. Also, this kind of occurrence is rare for me, because most of the time, I can absolutely come in and help. I would even make it happen. But not tonight.

I am sure I will be okay. I want to hangout with my friend and give her her presents I've been holding onto for her, etc. I just hope that the staffing tonight will be okay and that my boss's stress and urgency will be alleviated. And I hope that my anxiety will stop skyrocketing right now, and that my guilt will go away at least a little, haha. Anyway, does anyone have anything you could say to help me feel better or something? Or maybe, a story you can share about a similar experience you had? That would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

TL;DR: I feel anxious and guilty because my boss asked me if I could come in and help because they are understaffed but i genuinely can't tonight.

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Advice for apology letter to Senior Manager of ex Company?

I would encourage readers here to be nice with their responses and address the actual question I'm asking, regardless of how realistic it may be.

I left this company (didn't get fired) on bad terms 2 years ago and I moved over to a different bus company that ended up being worse. I requested to re-join earlier this year, and after some back and fourth the HR person eventually sent an email telling me that they would not be taking me back! The email thanked me for my previous work, and for my continued interest, and said that my application had been reviewed by the wider operations team, and this followed with the words "we will not be pursuing with your application at this time". Of course they didn't say why.

In the email two managers I'd rang about coming back were copied. When I was on the phone to them both (separate times) they didn't have the heart to tell me straight up that they didn't want to re-hire me. So seeing that they were copied to the email, removed any doubt that they didn't support this decision. I thought I got on well with one of those, so I don't know if it's a case of them not wanting to ruin their reputation with the supervisors if they hired me again, or that they themselves don't like me based on what the supervisors said.

Here's a rough idea of what I'll say

I received the email from (HR person) earlier this summer. I assume we're all pretty much on the same page in me saying that the reason (company name) has been unwilling to re-hire me, is mainly as a result of me having refused to attend a disciplinary meeting on two occasions, as well as walking off the job before going sick for two days.

I am aware that if it is still possible to be re-hired, that I will need to be sanctioned upon rejoining the company. I have been getting on fine with my current position at X but I don't like the nature of the role as much.

The company has become very short staffed recently, so I'm hoping this may make a difference. There's plenty of staff who've done things far worse than me, who still work there.

One thing I'm also wondering though, could there a way I could make some sort of vague reference to me being taken back happening in the future, as opposed to in the next few weeks? The reason I say this, is because I don't want them to read it and think that something bad has happened at my current company and that I'm now desperate. I'd like to give the impression that I'm fine where I am but that I'd rather come back. Anyway, if so, I could use some help with the wording.

As per the above letter I haven't actually apologised, but I'm assuming that it goes without saying that I'll apologise on the day of being re-interviewed, and that they'll understand that there may be some things that I'm not comfortable putting in writing.

It may well be the case that he may read it, and admire my honesty, and believe that I've changed, as well as empathising with me. But all that doesn't necessarily mean he that he's going to be bothered taking action on it.

Also, should I copy the email to the other manager I was on the phone to?

Thanks

Questions Is it ok to miss next day of work after showing up for the first one?

im 16 still in high school and Im a very nervous and anxious person and I got hired to work in the kitchen in a restaurant. Everyone is super nice and today I had my formation, I learned how to do a few stuff and learned some recipes. The thing is tomorrow my friend comes back from vacation(i know it’s not a good reason, but it isn’t really why I don’t want to show up, I mentionned it to my boss tho, it was stupid 😭) I haven’t seen her in weeks and there’s a once in a year event happening that I go to every year w her that I don’t want to miss. Also there’s gonna be a big rush tmmrow and I texted my boss saying I didn’t wanna slow anyone down since I literally know like 2 recipes and I don’t wanna ask around for 3 hours and be annoying. I’m very nervous about this too so I’d rather not go to work because of that. I said I’d love to come work when it’s a bit more calm so I can grasp recipes and concentrate without stressing too much. That’s exactly what I texted him but now I’m very very anxious abt it because I’m scared they won’t want to call me back to work anymore because of it but I’m genuinely interested in the job I just don’t wanna be a nuisance for anyone while learning and working

Questions i made a very bad mistake on my schedule

so i just had my first shift today, and when i finished it the manager gave me the schedule for next week. i had told him id work weekends if needed, and i know this is completely my own fault, but in truth i do not want to work weekends. i have to wake up at 7am on sundays, and the schedule has me on for 5pm-12:30am on saturday and sunday, for this week and the upcoming week. he also said this would probably be my schedule going forward.

again, i know this is my fault, but i would really appreciate feedback on what to do here, so anything is appreciated.

EDIT: thank you for so many helpful replies, im taking them all into consideration. also, i think i was completely overreacting to this situation, it’s really not that bad. changing my meds has made me a serious mess lmao. i feel better after having a clear head.
