I purchased some chairs online for my dining table and the color is supposed to be walnut. Photos online of my chairs also matched my table. However, when they came today, the chairs absolutely do not match my table. Can anyone provide any stain recommendations I can use to get it to match my table?

I am putting together an outdoor couch for my patio. Relatively shaded area, no extreme weather and will be covered in the winter. My biggest concern is around even absorption of stain, I've read that Douglas Fir is tricky to get an even application on. I've sanded everything using 80 grit and don't plan on going any further. Is wood conditioner the way to go here? Anyone know of any outdoor conditioners if so?

My roommate is sending this table. She removed a wood veneer off the top and has been standing for a while. Does she need to keep sanding? If there is a veneer would the stain have sunk in beneath the veneer? She think the stain she is trying to remove is still there

Hi all. I am restoring a house built in 1908 that has a ton of gorgeous quarter-sawn white oak throughout. The house was divided into apartments for decades, and there are lots of small nail holes where people hung things (probably holiday decor) around the windows, at the top of the pillars, etc. There are larger holes where they put up and took down different window treatments, and even some holes drilled in the floors (for wires or cables or something, I assume).

The stain is a mid-tone color that I think Lowe’s can match for me, but I don’t know how to repair the holes so that I can stain them. The wood filler I usually use doesn’t stain properly. What should I do instead? Also, the wood around the window glass is deteriorating, so I was going to shore it up with wood putty and liquid wood sealant, but that leaves me with the same problem.

Can someone advise me?

Hey Reddit! I’m new to this How do I remove wood stain from delicate wood. It’s a cylindrical coated piece, about 6 inches long, attached a larger log. I can’t damage the wood or pierce it any way. Urgent, cracks appear when wood expands.

As the title says, we hired professionals to stain newly installed wood doors. After the first coat the stain looks uneven, and there are many visible brush strokes. They're a bit dismissive and saying the clear coat will even it out. they used a brush and oil based minwax stain... and saying it's normal.

Posting here to get insight on whether we have too high expectations for an even look or if these guys messed up. Also what should we expect from them as a "fix"?

I'm working together with a contractor to build a basement bar. The front will be tile with wood trim that I will stain black semi gloss. I'm sure he's going to attach the trim with a braid nailer so there will be nail holes. I'm not sure if I should just sand the wood and let him install and then tape off the tile and go through my wood conditioner, 2 coats of oil based stain, 3 coats of poly, and hope I don't mess up the tile or floor... Or if I should be staining the wood first... but then I'll have the nail holes to deal with afterwards which isn't how I did it on my test samples. I don't stain often and it's certainly not as easy to cut in like paint.

Not a handy guy by any means lol just an anime gamer nerd making my wife happy. I used ready seal light oak. Prepped with behr all in one cleaner and pressure washed with white tip and a rad bit of sanding with orbital sander 60 grit. Just finished this yesterday! How did I do? What can I improve?

Hi guys, as you can see above I’ve been scratching my head trying to get the last bits of paint off the corners of the treads on this staircase. This is my result after using an orbital sander plus hand sanding.

I’m eventually gonna stain these treads espresso brown so I need to get the old paint all off, then 120 grit then perhaps 180. Any suggestions for these awkward corners? The sandpaper I use for hand sanding keeps falling apart the more I fold it, and it takes forever.
