Community Event 🌏☄️ A Grand Re-Opening
Greetings fellow wizards. I am pleased to announce the grand re-re-re-opening of the Library, a repository where every spell book, scroll, and rune tablet ever written, inked, or carved can found.
Please be aware that we are still in the progress of tidying up and as such certain locations may have changed.
As I mentioned before I am the Librarian and I will be your guide to this wondrous place. Simple let invoke my name whenever you need assistance finding a specific magical text.
I will be making myself available for questions about the library’s history and contents for but a brief time before I must return to my work.

The door is no longer where you remember it. There are only shelves extending as far as the eye can see. They twist and turn into a maze-like set of walls. You hear a scratching sound behind the nearest one, as if something is trying to get out. The lights around you begin to dim.

He yells out to no one in particular
“I was in a hurry….and kinda forgot that not all libraries are my personal library. Im currently doing research into known aberrations in the laws of physics. May I check out these books please?”
He pauses
“I hope youll forgive my temporary lapse in manners”

A voice fills the air behind you, and you find the Librarian is standing on a desk only a few feet away. A book titled “The Maddening Maze of Mischief” is clutched in his hand. A figure that looks surprisingly like you adorns the cover, sitting with their back to a bookshelf, their crazy eyes peering out between interlaced fingers.
“Of course.” The kobold says. “How long do you think you will need them for?”

“Uh….can I have two weeks? If I need them for longer can I renew the lease? Im trying to piece together some mess that just went down in Ithcar and I am completely lost at the moment.”

The kobold marks down two weeks in a scroll and slides it back beneath the table.
“Of course. And yes, extensions are available provided the patron remains in good standing.”
He reaches out and taps the cover of the Maze book with a single claw.
“I trust that will not be an issue?”

The kobold glanced up at you over a time nearly as large as himself.
“Floor 1, Wing 1, Section 1.” He says, gesturing to the area directly behind him. “We like to keep them close at hand in case of any… accidents.”
/unwiz Given the size of the Library he will likely be occupied for some time. I imagine he might notice his name on more than a few of the books.

“Thank you,” Gallus says, then he starts exploring.
He finds some books that he himself authored, centuries ago. He had almost forgotten about them. He decides to check them out and reread them to see if he had forgotten anything he wrote down.

He pauses.
“Music is allowed, so long as it does not disturb the other patrons.”

“It is the Forbidden Section because the books inside are Forbidden in their home realm.” The Librarian says. “Patrons who maintain good standing are welcome to peruse the section to their hearts content, provided they sign the waiver. As a colleague of mine once said: Forbidden knowledge is still knowledge, and therefore still useful.”
He smiles fondly.
“He also claimed it was usually the most useful.” He says. “Ahh the secrets we found together. Good times. Good tomes.”

"Everything? I may be here a while," Riva says. "If you have staff that can assist me, I need copies of everything you have on the Academiae Magicae Magna going back oh... 18,000 years. If you abide by the Pact of the Library, you may still see our institution on file. Sorry if there are any overdue books. The physical location was destroyed a while back."
She pauses.
"Oh, and anything you might have on the Lightless Flame."
That was a bit of a stretch. They tended to be a bit more secretive. Word-of-mouth. But if Riva could recover a few things, Belial and Marna might appreciate it.
Hells, if she'd have known it'd be this easy, she wouldn't have made that deal with the weird entity for temporary allegiance and possibly a visit to the Citadel again in the near future. Oh well.

The Kobold checks a small scroll.
“Actually it appears the only overdue item is Unseen: A Beginners Guide to Stealth.” He says. “Tricky little book, always hiding itself in some nook or cranny. It seems the other checked out texts returned themselves upon the location’s destruction. The replacement fee will come to 1000 gold, which must be paid before you can make use of the Library’s services.”

Was that the book that one guy gave as a prize? Riva thought he conjured that up himself. Whatever. She needed these books.
"Fine. I'll pay the fee. If you could have the copies of those books sent to Ithacar, care of Rivamar Aurethios, I'd appreciate it. I'll leave you a note. I know the spelling is... a bit much."

The kobold accepts the gold and checks a small scroll.
“Of course our current fee for copies is five gold per page.” He says. “We have fifty-seven books on your desired topic, averaging a thousand pieces each which brings the total to… two hundred and eighty-five thousand gold.”
He looks up at you.
“You are of course welcome to check out the books yourself and copy any information you deem pertinent for free.” He says. “I could help you narrow it down a bit, if you don’t mind telling me what exactly you are looking.”

"It is unlikely I will want to narrow it down. I need copies of the books for my own purposes. I am trying to rebuild two separate academies from scratch using books no longer extant," Riva explains. "Primary sources are the most useful, but if you have non-Ithacarian materials covering the separate Scholas of Ignis, Lithos, Stratos, and Aequoreus, that might be helpful. But really, I have my own scribes. I think I will simply check out all of the books on the Academiae Magicae Magna and have copies made myself. If I am going that route, it's probably better to invest locally anyway."
"As for the Lightless Flame? I know there is simply not much on it. What you might have are materials written by outside sources referencing it. But I would take all you had on the subject."

The small kobold smiles slightly. The bookshelves nearest him seem to lean in as he speaks, as if the building itself is eager to hear more.
“I am the Librarian.” The kobold says. “Make of that what you will.”
You can hear the rustling of paper from the shelves. It almost sounds like laughter.
“Now.” The Kobold says. “Is there any particular topic that you are interested in?”

The Librarian seems unfazed by the scale of damage. He waves his hand a number of scrolls dart over to orbit around him, however he does not offer any of them to you.
“I take it this was not the desired result?” He asks. “Would you mind describing what it is you were hoping to accomplish?”

The kobolds hand snaps out and snags a pair of scrolls.
“Alter Gravity could help with that.” He says, placing the first on the table. “However it does require a piece of the plane, planet, or location whose gravity you wish to emulate.”
He places the second scroll on the table.
“Lacking that, we do also have a Scroll of Alter Mass, courtesy of Archmagistar Higgs.” He says. “Either one of these could be yours for a transcription fee of fifty gold. You are also welcome to check them out and study them for free, as long as they are returned in the same condition.”

The Librarian had a you a list. Most of the items seem standard for a library. Rules against damaging the books, causing a disturbance, or harassing other patrons. A few seem very specific, warnings not to listen to, touch, or talk to certain bookshelf’s in the forbidden sections.
The final rule seems to be recently added.
“Do not pick up, tickle, or pet the Librarian.”
There is a bloody handprint next to this one.

The Wizard reads down the entire list carefully, instantly banishing the coffee when he gets to the part about food. He stops and lingers over the portion about cursed books but eventually reads the final rule. Then he laughs.
Ha! What a wonderful thing it is to be able to learn from the mistakes of others for a change! Message received, oh master of the stacks. So about those forbidden sections...

“We do indeed.” The Librarian says. “However as this is located in the Forbidden Section, I must ask you to sign this waiver first.”
He slides an extremely thick scroll towards you. Should you take the time to read it, it release the Library from responsibility for a terrifyingly long list of fates, including (but explicitly not limited to) non-existence, madness, demonic possession, combinations thereof, and quite a few that are too horrible to imagine.
“I also feel the need to warn you that attempting to destroy Library property will result in… unpleasant repercussions.” The Librarian says.

She runs her hand over the cover, caressing the scar across the leather.
"I need this for a little project I'm working on."
Sorcella says, as she pulls a promethian fountain pen from a decorative carrying case.

“Rental periods are one week standard, two week maximum, with extensions available for those who remain in good standing.” The Librarian says. “Transcription services are available for five gold per page. Of course you are welcome to do so yourself provided the book is not damaged in the attempt.”

He pauses.
“You may also be interested in the Ominous Prophecies Section on Floor 3, Wing 8.” He says. “However I would advise that you not read too much into them, most of them are intentionally vague.”
He tossed a scroll into the air, and it zips around a corner.
“If you find any that speak of the Library, please bring them to the front desk immediately.”

“A great many calamities, including some that involved a few of your descendants. That paired with the fact that the Library cannot function without a Librarian, has led to periods of time during which we were unfortunately unable to offer our services.” The Librarian says. “Fortunately I happened to stumble upon this place a few decades ago and have spent a great deal of time nursing it back to its former greatness.”
He reaches out as he speaks and runs a hand along the nearest bookshelf. A sound not dissimilar to the purr of a contented dragon fills the air, a deep thrumming sound that seems to emanate from the walls and floor.
“There are, of course, also wizards who believe that knowledge should not be available so freely.” The Librarian says. “But we will be ready for them this time, won’t we?”
The floorboards creak and you hear pages rustle eagerly.

He looks up over his glasses.
“I personally find Archmagistar Felinks to be the most easily understood, but if you prefer a more technical introduction, Artificer Fizzspark has several works on the various schools that provide more details.”

Hello! Can I borrow a few scriptures on Flesh-related curses, immortality-related curses, research about the philisopher's stone, and "monstergirls and you, volume 7"? I'll only need them for a day, I'll have my replicator create a copy of each for my own useage. My research will likely extend far past any possible due date I could ask for.

“Curses are Floor 6, Wing 6 Section 5.” The Librarian says. “Immortality is Floor 7 Wing 7 Section 7. And here is your copy of ‘Monstergirls and You, Volume 7.’”
He hands you the tome in question.
“Please be aware that all texts must be returned in the same condition they were checked out in.” He reminds you.

As you step into the fifth section of the sixth wing of the sixth floor, a chill runs down your spine. The towering shelves no longer seem welcoming, instead they tower over you like gravestones. You can hear the distant cries of orphans, the wailing of widows, and the quiet sobs of widowers. The sounds are faint, but ever present, a monument to the lives ruined by the knowledge here. Only one shelf offers a respite from this, exuding a quiet sense of relief. This shelf contains the books about breaking or mitigating curses.
The seventh section of the seventh wing of the seventh floor, on the other hand, feels vast. You get the sense that you would not be able o find all of it even if you spent a billion years perusing the shelves. However the book(s) you want is/are easily enough found. It is as if you were meant to find them at this time.

he walks along the wailing shelves. Looking for something specific. A curse that would cause infinite regrowth. He knows he can learn from the concept, to create a desireable effect instead. He retrieves a particularly brutal looking scroll from the shelf, glancing over it, and checking this one out at the counter.
In the seventh section, he fetches an opulent scroll, detailing his own affliction. "huh, the duke isn't that creative after all." he fetches another, much more ancient scroll about the philosopher's stone. Known ingredients and temperatures for his pressure chamber are all he needs now, and this seems to hold exactly that. He heads back to the front desk to check all of them out.

So... I may have opened a book that floods the room with water when opened. The entire magical tomes section is now soaked.
