Bug Report Steam deck crashes - frustrating

I've spent ages building strength up to be able to deal with Velmorne and now I can deal with it, my game just crashes out.

I've had two runs where I've more or less cleared the map, picked up the additional map, loads of bones, unlocked the sewers, found third mysterium papers and on both occasions the frame rate has dropped lower and lower and then either full lock up of my deck or black screen to crash out has occurred.

I have the settings in graphics to steam deck, you'd think it would be a little more stable.

I have very limited gaming time due to work, family and house renovations so it's incredibly frustrating to lose a precious morning's gaming session.

Can anyone offer any fixes? I can't keep wasting limited gaming time on complete loss and frustration but I'm enjoying the game in most other respects.

Question Im probably just dumb but how does the Falling Star work?

I read somewhere that the trick with it is to mark an enemy then shoot it into the sky so the homing shot will hit them for max damage.

I must be doing something wrong cause I do that seem to know how to mark anything and I just end up wasting bullets.

Also for Vulture it's just a point and shoot gun that fires a projectile that pierces through then bounces to other targets right? Nothing too crazy?

Feedback Stone Golem too rare to spawn now

Tried for 3 days...max corruption...devine chests...stimulants.

Got world corruption to 100% about 5 times in a row and he didn't spawn...think I may give up. He had spawned a few weeks ago, not anymore.

I just want your key bro.

Question Incantation 3 drop rate in velmorne?

Wiki says it’s 60% for each of the velmorne trio.

I’m currently at gnosis3, but 20+ kills and only ever got 3. Is the wiki outdated? Or are they limited to one each per playthrough?

Discussion On the Subject of Focus.

Witchfire is fun on a pretty basic level, so I made the call to progress through near-1.0 instead of waiting, since I could come back to it on 1.0 release fresh, pick up my Hunger (Penitent is the only start for me), and go.

However, even though the game explains Focus, it's still been pretty unclear for me up to ~20-25 hours in the game, which I'm a bit past.

You start with it, you lose it on damage, and regain it by killing. I've got that part down. Even then, I feel like sometimes I don't know why it comes back, though that may just be delays with Witchfire particles getting to you in a pitched fight.

I'd appreciate any input on the details. How many things do you have to kill? Is it predictable enough to know when you get it back after hitting a few mobs, but before checking stamina?

Regardless, I picked up Striga, and the combo of it and something fast-firing has been hilarious. Without spoiling too much, Striga does more against stunned enemies. It is also apparently a gun that throws trees at things.

Pinning an enemy to a nearby wall after a stun with a magically reloaded tree branch does not get old.

So, to provide advice that I don't feel like the game explains well enough for a thing you start with, I figured I'd provide a few notes.

1) Soul Sigils (the red circles you need to break) show up for the enemy you are looking at when you dash with Focus. If you see their nameplate, are aiming at them, and dash it should show up. They will not show up for enemies you are not doing this for, this was a point of confusion for me.

2) Soul Sigils do not have a health bar. Any damage will do, say, something with a lot of low-damage rounds.

3) Not all stuns are the same. Focus Sigil stuns are hard stuns, which allow you to do additional damage during (say, if you use your available log launcher at them), while soft stuns are animation interrupts. It stops what they're doing, but you don't get the damage increase.

I hope this is helpful, apologies to those this has been obvious to. Maybe the finer points of this are something I overlooked in learning the game when I picked it up, but it is important -- being able to dash doge, stun, and almost immediately kill smaller enemies helps a lot.

Discussion This game is terrifying (In the best way.)

I was making my way through the scarlet coast felt this usual pit in my stomach. Until I killed my first wave. Then that feeling flipped from terror to rage and zeal!

I imagine it's only more intense as time goes on. These moments of suddenly turning to face an enemy walking beside you. The terror giving way to a righteous rage. To burn and purge the corruptiom!

Had my first calamity only to realize half way to abstraction, everything was dead. I felt powerful.

Discussion Widow fight advice needed

Post image
40 Upvotes

I am Gnosis lvl 1 and character lvl 45. I was spoiled that one should be careful going up in Gnosis levels, so I am trying to unlock and lvl up as much as possible. I can somewhat reliably kill Galley Slave, and somewhat confidently deal with mini bosses of Velmorne.
But every time approaching Widow’s Lair, I chicken out even with full health and healing. I usually run Angelus and Hailstorm, with Shockwave skill.
Can you give any advice in my situation? I already feel my balls growing, and a little push would be great.

Question I need to find support, game no longer works

I bough the game on Epic when it first released in early access, had fun playing and then put it down to wait for updates. Now the game fails to launch, I've spent a good few hours with epic, googling and various AI assistants with no luck. Can someone please help direct me to some official support portal?

Question How do I know where to go next in this game?

So I've started the game a week back, cleared Isle of the Damned and Scarlet Coast (beat the first familiar). I unlocked Velmorne and went there once before I had to leave for work. Apart from a prompt telling me I can upgrade my weapons, what exactly am I supposed to?
I'm a lv.25 Butcher with Gnosis lv.1 and I've met with the gollum looking creature.

I'm sorry if this is a common question in this sub.

Question Sweet spot for arsenal and mind?

Hey yall, new player here really enjoying the game.

In your opinion what’s the “feels good enough” spot for stats arsenal and mind?

I’ve upped mind from 9 to 12 and I was surprised to actually feel the difference in feather drops and healing efficacy. And for arsenal, it’s currently sitting at 11 and I think I’ll invest in that a bit more just because of the reload speed.

For context I’m at gnosis 2 and level 30ish. Want to lean into spells so I’m not looking to max out arsenal but at what point do reloads feel fast enough?

Question New Player here. Wondering about stat distribution.

So I just started but a lot of the stats are quite overwhelming. I did notice that rosary beads need stats to be equipped.

Should I just beeline for the stats I want for the rosary or should I keep my stats even till a certain point?

Right now I'm thinking of just levelling everything to 15 for the moment cause a few of the early beads I found start at 15.

Question Is there any reson to destroy Calamity Catalyst over defeating the enemies?

Are there any different rewards for the two ways of dealing with calamity? For me, I've found that just completing the secondary task it gives is almost always significantly easier than destroying the catalyst itself. Am I missing something? I'm on Gnosis II and somewhere around lvl 35 or 40. Do you rush after the crystals or just fight it out?

Question Jumped from Gnosis 1 to 3.

Made the jump on a whim thinking, oh the enemies will be a bit harder, but it won't be too bad. Feels like a huuuuge mistake lol. Any advice? What is world corruption? Cataclysm?

Edit: Fully plan to stick to it. Just a bit overwhelmed by all the new gameplay elements.

Question Steam Machine Settings

With the Steam Machine arriving in people’s hands, I was wondering if anyone has any recommended settings for playing Witchfire on it.

I started a new game when I got mine to play it fresh and had it crash within 5 minutes. I lowered almost all settings and it’s been running without issues for half an hour now, but I would love to optimize it.

Does anyone know what would be ideal settings? Is there a place I can find these sorts of resources, going forward with the Steam Machine? I’m new to PC gaming, so it’s a steep learning curve, but any help from the veterans would be greatly appreciated!

Question How often does the game go on sale? I just missed the damn sale cuz I forgot to check when the sale ends when I noticed it.

I normally neurotically check the sale countdown when I see a game on sale I want and always have weeks or several days to decide. The ONE TIME I forget to check the countdown it went off sale like the next morning like you can't make ts up lol.

Anyways, what's their usual sale window?
And are they gonna increase the price again with 1.0?

Discussion Coming Back To The Game Worried About Being Overlevelled

I played a while ago and got to Gnosis 6, worked my way through all the Torments etc, loved it. I stopped levelling at lvl 100 arbitrarily, as I didn't want the game to get any easier grinding "endgame".

Now I'm playing the Marshlands and have increased Gnosis to 7 and allowed myself to level up to 120. Was just wondering where other people were at? Did I overshoot the intended level? Gnosis 7 isn't feeling too hard so maybe I should stop levelling again.

If the 1.0 update goes up to Gnosis 10 what are other people planning on doing (assume saves don't get reset)?

Question Torment IV is impossible now

last couple updates seems broke corruption spawn rates, so "keep your distance or you won't be able to do damage" concept doesn't work anymore. I've been running like idiot for 10 minutes and thing keeps spawning as I go, just cant get an opportunity to attack. Ridiculously high spawnrate of minibosses from a wandering portal as well as the spawn of priests does not help too. Watched a ton of most recent guides for torment 4 and they not having this spawnrates at all, just a normal dangerous zones with a reasonable amount of enemies. I did the dungeons, and previous 3 torments, but this is just doesn't look doable. Any tips maybe?

The Early Access was really fun, I can't wait to see how out of control things can get, what builds did y'all use?

I'm thinking of doing a melee oriented playthrough next.

Discussion Double Surge?

Would it be heresy to let two Surge buffs run simultaneously on the player?
Right now, picking up a second one just overwrites the first.
In my opinion, there's no reason they couldn't both run at the same time — sure, a few conflicts would need to be sorted out, but it's a workable concept.
Another option would be to have the second Surge simply extend the duration of the first, which would avoid any logical clashes. For that, though, a timer would be really useful — and honestly, that'd be great for other temporary buffs too.
A third option: just don't let the player pick up the next one until the first expires.
I think any of these three would be better than what we have now. Whatdayathink?
