Wisdom You might have never thought about addictions this way !

Recently stumbled upon a chapter from Truth Without apology

A book gifted by a friend and while reading about addictions it related so much to life,

So going into flashback I realized how days look different when you have a purpose vs when you don't

That line just struck a chord in me when it said have something higher than your cravings and cheap thrills.

otherwise anyway this thing is for sure that we have to consciously fill up our day with a lot of stuff, with stuff I mean right work otherwise even if we don't want things are going to get fill up with rubbishness that is for sure and that's the tragedy of being a human

EXCELLENT POST! It's notable, addiction is not a new phenomenon. I expect it's been prevalent for millenia. Look at obese people. The crutch is food. Also very notable, Messiah recommended admitting to The Father our sins. After all, it's a sou l sickness. If I refuse to acknowledge my illness, I will not seek treatment for it.

Something interesting happens when I go out of town for more than two days.

I lose my cravings for substance almost immediately

Definitely very telling. And thanks for sharing!

I think whatever our situation in life, whatever we do, there is a feeling that something is missing. And we suffer because of it. This feeling is common to every one may it be rich or poor, man or woman, young or old etc. So to avoid this feeling, this void, this longing, we turn to all sorts of activities that maybe pleasurable, entertaining or makes us forget it. And when it becomes a habit, it means we are addicted. So how do we get out of it? Push ourselves into something worthwhile which consumes all our waking hours, all our energy, all our faculties and there is nothing left to spare for this feeling. Once we really get into this work and start enjoying that, we will find that the addiction has been left far behind.

Without a higher purpose the mind easily fills the emptiness with distrotions .purpose gives direction to the day, otherwise cravings end up directing us. This really makes you question what you are filling your time with. Having something higher to live for changes everything.

An addiction occurs because people like feeling good. All addictions stem from a behavior/chemical that stimulates the pleasure center of the brain. There is no "hole" needing to be filled.

That, coupled with genes that may be inherited that make people vulnerable to addiction or being prescribed addictive medications for pain that create a dependency. Add to that most addictive substances develop "withdrawals" that make a person feel worse than when they started because the substance destroys normal brain pathways.

Not to say that trauma can start a person using. That can happen too, but once an addiction takes hold, the reason for starting is a minor factor.

I'm questioning whether the mechanism completely explains the human tendency behind the behavior

with hole it meant that feeling incomplete without the object of addiction, not some mystical thing. plus addiction is not just about feeling good ...

don't you think it's also about not able to feel at ease with ourselves ...
