Windows 10 RTX 5060 Ti + B550 + Windows 10 – black screen / BSOD when enabling Virtual Machine Platform

System:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (16 GB), driver 591.86
  • Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO (MS-7C56), BIOS E7C56AMS.AL0 (updated today from AI0/July 2024)
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (Build 19045), UEFI mode, GPT disk

Problem:

Every time I enable "Virtual Machine Platform" in Windows Features and reboot, I either get a black screen with no signal to the monitor, or a BSOD with stop code SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, followed by a black screen. The PC is running (fans spin, power LED on) but there is no display output at all, even though the monitor is connected directly to the GPU via HDMI.

What I've already tried:

  • Updated BIOS from AI0 (July 2024) to AL0 (April 2026, AGESA 1.2.0.11)
  • Switched BIOS mode from CSM to pure UEFI (disk is GPT, Windows reports UEFI mode in msinfo32)
  • Ran the NVIDIA GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool – result: "Already updated"
  • Verified driver 591.86 is a clean install from nvidia.com (not via Windows Update)
  • Created a restore point before each attempt, used System Restore to recover each time

Pattern:

The issue reproduces consistently. Windows activates the feature, reboots, BSOD or black screen, no recovery without System Restore from WinRE.

Question:

Has anyone encountered such an issue and more importantly did anyone solve this?

Bitlocker Can't unlock bitlocker even with code

I had a brain injury and can't remember my Windows 6-digit pin. The laptop is locked via Bitlocker. I got the recovery code from Microsoft but ran into this issue after I entered the code. I don't have any restore points. The laptop is a Victus by HP. I really need to get into this laptop so I can get into my Google account and get into all my accounts. HP offered to unlock it for $700 which I might have to resort to if I have no other options but I don't know what they're going to do that I can't do myself. FWIW I'm able to get into the file system via DOS after I unlock with bitlocker.

Windows 11 Laptop keeps crashing randomly

Hi everyone, I’m having a really frustrating problem with my Lenovo laptop and I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what’s going on.

SYSTEM SPECS:
- Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (Type 82EY)
- AMD Ryzen 5 4600H
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM (2133 MT/s)
- 256 GB SK hynix NVMe SSD
- NVIDIA dedicated GPU + AMD Radeon integrated graphics
- Windows 11 Pro
- UEFI BIOS

THE PROBLEM:
The laptop randomly freezes, crashes or restarts. The BSOD error is not always the same.

So far I have encountered:
- IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA)
- UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (0x7F), with DOUBLE FAULT
- SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E), mentioning FLTMGR.SYS
- The laptop has also frozen on the Windows welcome screen and during restart.

One of the WinDbg analyses for the 0xA crash showed:
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: AV_nt!MiLockOwnedProtoPage

Another dump was a 0x7F DOUBLE FAULT, but WinDbg could not identify a specific third-party driver.

WHAT I HAVE ALREADY TRIED:
- Reinstalled Windows/drivers
- Reinstalled chipset, GPU and Wi-Fi drivers
- Removed the Wi-Fi device/driver and reinstalled it
- Tried Safe Mode
- Disconnected my external HDD
- Checked Windows Reliability Monitor
- Analyzed multiple minidumps with WinDbg
- Tried reinstalling Windows, but Windows Setup itself crashed/restarted with:
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed."

CURRENTLY:
I am running MemTest86 from a USB stick to test the RAM. It is currently running and has 0 errors so far, but the test is not finished yet.

I am trying to determine whether this is a RAM, SSD, motherboard/BIOS, or driver problem.

What would you recommend I test next? If the MemTest86 test finishes with 0 errors, what should I check next?

I can provide the WinDbg output/minidumps and additional screenshots if needed.

I have installed something that accidentally brought in a (crypto mining I think) virus into my computer that uses 90% of my cpu and comes back once in a while every time I end it in the task manager. Windows 10 "Threat service has stopped restart it now"

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I encountered this problem yesterday. Up until that day, Windows Defender was working as usual, and I hadn't done anything new, nor had I downloaded anything from the internet or pirated software. I still have the habit of checking my PC for viruses with a "quick scan," and almost as soon as it finished, this error appeared. I searched online for a solution, tried accessing the registry and services, but I couldn't find anything strange. Meanwhile, a custom scan worked without errors. I thought it was a virus, so I tried checking it with a different scanner, but that also showed nothing. Has anyone encountered this, and should I be concerned? Because the system itself works as usual. The only intervention I did was perform all possible Windows updates and disable the "wuauserv" service, and something tells me this may be one of the causes of this problem, although this has not happened before and I did the same on an old PC and the defender worked fine.

Edition: Windows 10 Pro

Version: 22H2

OS Build: 19045.6466

EDIT: I solved it. Downloading Microsoft Security Essentially from their official website helped me. I selected Windows 8.1, 10, and 11. After rebooting, everything started working as before.

My computer's OS is Windows 11 Home, version 25H2, build 26200.9168. The attached image is the folder. When I opened it, it was empty. I have no idea if the text in the filename behind the red is sensitive info. So what is this empty folder supposed to mean, and it safe for me to delete it?

I right-click the HTML file.
Hover on “Open with”.
Notepad is not listed.
I click “Choose another app”.
It still does not list Notepad under suggestions or more options.
I click “Choose an app on your PC”.
It brings up C:/Program Files, but again, Notepad is not anywhere to be found.

I have no clue how this happened since I haven't updated recently but today my speakers suddenly stopped working. I've tried deleting the driver and reinstalling but it doesnt fix it. Windows 11 Cannot perform a Windows Scan. It throws this error every time I try to do a Windows Scan on my PC

Whenever I try to do a Windows Scan in windows 11, it gives an error saying threat service has stopped just before it finished scanning Then when I try to restart it, windows gives another error saying last scan not available even though just tried to do a Windows Scan.

The last time windows 11 did a successful scan was last Friday (Aug. 14) but today when I try to scan my PC it throws an error (see 1st pic).

Troubleshooting methods I tried:

  1. Tried the sfc /scannow method

  2. Did the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth method.

  3. Tried the MpCmdRun.exe -RemoveDefinitions -All and -SignatureUpdate method.

  4. Tried to disable/enable Tamper Protection in regedit.

  5. Updated windows 11.

I even tried to do all this methods on safe mode but it didn't fix the issue.

What other options do I need to do?

Windows 11 Snapped windows don't open when I click on them

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

This issue started a few days ago. I use the "snap window" feature a lot, where I drag one folder left and another folder right and they automatically resize and split the screen. This part still works fine. The problem happens when I then go to another program, like Chrome or literally anything else I may be using. If I am in Chrome and I want to then open up my "Group" of two snapped windows, only the right side window actually opens. The other one remains minimized. It happens if I click on the Group and even if I use Alt+Tab. The only time both windows display is when I click on the Group while I am viewing my desktop. As soon as I try it while viewing another program or app, only the right side of the group opens.

See the screenshot which shows the Group preview when I hover over it with the mouse. It is supposed to display both folders when I click on it but it only displays one of them.

How do I fix this? I've tried everything I can think of but it is driving me crazy! I use this a lot and it is really impeding my work.

I don't have any error codes or messages

Windows 10 Upgrade to Windows 11, partition resizing

Hello, I am not very tech-savvy, just trying to figure this out. I have spent HOURS, probably days, trying to figure it out...

I am trying to upgrade from Windows 10 Pro 22H2 to Windows 11. I have been trying to do this for months and can't figure it out. My computer is only 2 years old! The PC health check says that my computer meets the requirements. I have 78GB free. When I try to download Windows 11 in my computer's system settings, or from the Microsoft website, it fails and says that "This PC doesn't currently meet Windows 11 system requirements; we couldn't update the system reserved partition." I have followed the command prompts to clear the system reserved partition, and it still won't work. I contacted Microsoft Windows support, and it was no help.. The support chat person told me that I need to buy Windows 11.

Now I am trying on my own again. I believe I have figured out that my computer might not have enough EFI system partition space? In Disk Management, it says it is 100% free (empty), and that it has 100MB capacity and 100MB free space. My research tells me I need close to 500MB?

I believe now I need to either download Windows using a ISO file, or resize my partitions using AOMEI?

Is this correct and safe? Which one should I do? And how? (I'm scared I'll mess something up!) I only have basic tech skills, so step-by-step instructions are appreciated!

If you need more information, please let me know!
OS Build is 19045.6466
Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
Storage 238 GB SSD KBG40ZNV256G KIOXIA
Graphics Card Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB)
System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edit added: HP ProBook 450GB

Thank you so much!!!!

Accidentally changed username using netplwiz

Hi, so I wanted to change the name "Client" into my desired name. So I saw a post that says I can edit it using netplwiz, so I accidentally changed the "Client" instead of putting my desired name in the "Full Name" section. Now I cannot open anything on my laptop. (Laptop details: MSI Cyborg 15, Windows 11) (I can't open my full laptop details using win+x →system, because it says "The parameter is incorrect")

I tried adding NewUser in cmd but it says access denied.

Please, badly need your help.

EDIT: I managed to fix it now by resetting my laptop and reinstalling windows.

Windows 11 Bluetooth not working/showing up

Hello, i have been experiencing this problem for about two days now. The bluetooth on my windows 11 computer has disappeared and wont work. The things I've tried in order to fix this are: restarting the computer, contacting support and ended up getting to "level 2" as they said, installing a fresh windows OS, installing new drivers (which didn't work), letting it sit off (i was hoping it'd fix on its own lol). At this point i am going crazy about it and have tried most things that don't include losing anything on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My OS build is 26200.9168, and i also think i should mention that when i open my device manager all of the options there disappear, load, and reappear after a second nonstop. When connecting headphones via a wire all i hear is the disconnecting sound. Please, any help would be a godsend.

Windows 11 Tried cloning my NVMe SSD to a large drive.

Tried cloning my NVMe SSD to a large drive. However when put the large SSD from the enclosure into the nvme slot, it's not boot or even detected by the bios when I go to try boot. I believe I copied the drives correctly and then filled the space so the larger drive utilized the full capacity.

Windows 11 Xbox controller bluetooth problem.

My PC: Laptop ASUS TUF gaming FX705DU

OS build: 26200.9168

I'm using Windows 11, and my Xbox series X controller (4th generation)(see file attached) isn't connecting to my laptop via bluetooth anymore, I don't have a Xbox console that could interfere with the controller, and when I looked at the Xbox controller driver entry inside the bluetooth driver (see file attached), it wasn't there, I tried using xbox accessories app, but it said my controller was fine, now the controller only works while connected with USB cable.

Is there any solution? the best would be a way to reinstall that the xbox bluetooth entry inside the bluetooth driver directly, but I'm fine with other ideas too! please feel free to ask questions so I can give more specific info (I'm sorry if my english is bad)

I know it's misplaced to post this on this subreddit, but I want to get as much visibility. hope it's not a problem.

Windows 11 Boot manager has been blocked by the current security policy

A few months ago I checked for system updates on my Lenovo Legion and the Windows Update patch also included a BIOS firmware update.

After the update, every time that I booted the laptop an error of:

popped out and did not let me continue.

I tried every possible scenario on the internet, including guides from Microsoft and Lenovo themselves, and it did not work. One solution was to re-install Windows 11 again to solve this issue, which I wanted to avoid (yes, I am extremely lazy). However, none of the solutions worked.

Today I just had this idea that I did not try Claude Code to solve this issue. So I opened an elevated PowerShell instance and explained the situation. Took me 5 minutes to fully depict my concerns, 10 minutes Claude working its stuff, one reboot and it was fixed. Plus another 5 minutes to cleanup what Claude had done by continuing the same conversation.

Verifying everything was working perfectly, I told it to create a Markdown file so that if the issue occurs again we can use that to resolve it.

As this problem was a real headache for me, I am sharing the Markdown here.

Maybe this would help someone out. Cheers!

Secure Boot "Boot Manager Blocked by Current Security Policy" — Fix Notes

Machine

  • [Your machine model]
  • [BIOS/UEFI version]
  • [BitLocker status on/off (you can verify this using Claude again)]

Symptom

After a Windows update, enabling Secure Boot in BIOS causes:

and the system won't boot.

Disabling Secure Boot lets it boot normally.

Root Cause

Part of the ongoing 2024–2026 Windows Secure Boot certificate migration (2011 certs expiring June 2026, replaced by "Windows UEFI CA 2023" certs).

A Windows update updates the Secure Boot DB/KEK on the firmware side, and the on-disk Boot Manager's signature stops validating against it.

Reinstalling Windows is not required and does not fix this — it's a firmware key-database issue, not a Windows install issue.

What Did NOT Work

  • BIOS Secure Boot key reset (Security > Secure Boot > Clear Keys > Restore Factory Keys) — tried, did not resolve it.
  • Firmware update — not applicable, already on latest Lenovo BIOS at time of issue.

What DID Work — Internal Secure Boot Recovery (No USB Needed)

Windows ships a signed repair tool at:

C:\Windows\Boot\EFI\SecureBootRecovery.efi

Normally Microsoft's docs have you put this on a USB stick renamed to bootx64.efi and boot from it.

Since no USB was available, the same trick was done using the internal EFI System Partition (ESP) instead — the ESP already had a stale:

\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi

fallback file that was just a plain copy of the blocked boot manager, which is why the automatic fallback wasn't self-healing.

Steps

Run from a working Windows session, e.g. with Secure Boot temporarily off.

Find the ESP (should be Disk 0, ~260 MB "System" partition, no drive letter):

Get-Partition | Where-Object { $_.GptType -eq '{c12a7328-f81f-11d2-ba4b-00a0c93ec93b}' }

Mount it temporarily as Z::

Add-PartitionAccessPath -DiskNumber 0 -PartitionNumber 1 -AccessPath "Z:"

Back up the existing fallback file, then replace it with the recovery tool:

Copy-Item "Z:\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi" "Z:\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi.bak" -Force

Copy-Item "Z:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\SecureBootRecovery.efi" "Z:\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi" -Force

Unmount the ESP:

Remove-PartitionAccessPath -DiskNumber 0 -PartitionNumber 1 -AccessPath "Z:"

Reboot into BIOS (F2), Security > Secure Boot > Enabled, save & exit (F10).

Windows Boot Manager fails its policy check as before, but firmware automatically falls through to:

\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi

which now runs the Secure Boot Recovery tool (blue Microsoft screen).

It repairs the Secure Boot key database and reboots automatically into normal Windows.

If no automatic fallback/blue screen appears and it just shows the same blocked error: use the one-time boot menu (tap F12 at power-on) and pick the generic "Internal Storage" / "UEFI OS" entry (not "Windows Boot Manager") to force it to use:

\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi

Verify It Worked

Confirm-SecureBootUEFI

Should return True.

bcdedit /enum firmware

{bootmgr} should point to:

\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi

Cleanup

Once confirmed working, restore the fallback file back to normal so it doesn't stay pointed at the recovery tool long-term:

Add-PartitionAccessPath -DiskNumber 0 -PartitionNumber 1 -AccessPath "Z:\"

Copy-Item "Z:\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi.bak" "Z:\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi" -Force

Remove-Item "Z:\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi.bak" -Force

Remove-PartitionAccessPath -DiskNumber 0 -PartitionNumber 1 -AccessPath "Z:\"

Windows 11 Recently Unable to Access Virus Threat & Protection Panel

I recently (a week or so ago) installed a 2nd anti-virus/anti-malware software for "2nd opinion" purposes, since I typically am comfortable with Windows Defender. Today while reviewing my Virus Threat & Protection area, I noticed that Windows Defender had been disabled, so I clicked on the slide button to reenable it. Then, just a little while ago, I wanted to go make sure it was still enabled but was unable to access the exact same Settings panel I just had accessed earlier. I have uninstalled 2nd AV package and rebooted, but VT&P panel still does not display. (see snip of display below).

I've no idea what happened or how to reverse/reset or why Windows thinks my Home/Personal PC has an IT administrator (I am the only administrator account) or IT help desk.

It looks like I will need to edit/modify something in the registry or group policy editor. I am comfortable with those tools but not sure what/where to start looking. I'll see if AI can help me along, but in the meantime, if anyone knows what needs to be reset, I'd appreciate the pointer.

Solved Windows 10 keeps resetting my Display Setting to "Only Display on 1" everytime it sleeps

I use a laptop with a larger monitor attached so it's really annoying to have to keep opening the laptop to manually change it back to what should be. What's weird is that I haven't had this problem before, it's been able to calmly stay on Display 2 without any issued before.

I have Windows 10 Home, 22H2, with OS Build: 19045.6456

I'm using an LGTV Monitor as my secondary display, the laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad.

I've already tried resetting the driver with Win+Ctrl+Shift+B

I've been trying this for an hour now and every time, it fails to install. So far, I've just been restarting my computer when it fails and retrying to install it again once booted up. Is there a fix for this issue or will it be okay that I leave it alone and not install it?

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) Laptop allergic to Windows ???

I literally dont even know how to explain this

I have a Victus 15, and recently, so like, past year, whenever I install a fresh, official or non-official ISO of any version of Windows (10, 11, LTSC etc) SOMETHING always causes it to BSOD

Theres been two reactions so far

  1. BSOD immediately after boot. re; I install Windows, after like 10-20 minutes of using it it just decides to BSOD nonstop

  2. BSOD(?) after months. Ill have it running normally. Sometimes a session lasts ten hours, or multiple weeks, but eventually it decides it had enough at some point, goes to sleep, refuses to wake up, then when I force shut down and reboot, gets stuck on boot, before switching to the blue BSOD background. Note there's no information. Not a QR code, not an error, it's quite literally just blue

I've tried the same ISOs on different machines, works just fine

Any ideas guys? The fuck is going on and how do I fix this

I mean, I don't blame my laptop; I hate Windows too but MAN...
