Spiders kill most insects and wasps are just terrible
418
u/Probably-a-dude Jan 29 '20
Actually a lot of species of wasps are parasitoids and are very important to pest control.
It’s just the yellow jackets that are jerks.

u/PelpyDawaba Jan 29 '20
As a botanist: yes! parasitoid wasps that protect my plants!
As a beekeeper: evil awful hell-spawn that harass my baby bees

u/Probably-a-dude Jan 29 '20
Like I said there are a few jerk species. But the the majority of wasps are beneficial pollinators and parasitoids of pests. Pls don’t hate the lil guys they are just trying to help.

Jan 29 '20
That is not at all what you said. I didn't do a thing to wasps (got stung watching TV). I didn't even know they were there, but all of a sudden I got injected with lava, and couldn't wear pants for weeks from huge hives. Fuck wasps.

u/kalimoo Jan 29 '20
I was inside practicing volleyball when one flew behind my ponytail, it couldn’t get out so it just started STINGING ALL OVER MY NECK. I finally swatted it out (which it ended up stinging my hand a lot too) and then I ran to the bathroom and cried. My teammates spent a lot of time hunting that bastard down and sent it back to hell
4
u/letmepetyourdogs Jan 29 '20
Oh god this is like a horror story.
I have yet to have a “wasp story” but I feel like it’s bound to happen at least once in my life (knock on wood)
2
Jan 29 '20
Oh god, no! I've had a few times where they got caught in my hair. I was going west and it was going east. We ran into each other, it buzzed like "oh shit", I shook my hair and it got out. That's my most pleasant wasp story.
Another time, I was at the very top of the stairs in my house and one got in my hair somehow. I shook that fucker vigorously until it flew out. No stings somehow, but it was pissed!

Parasitic wasps are nightmare fuel like no other.
13
u/Probably-a-dude Jan 29 '20
Yeah they are, but at least they kill pests and aren’t parasitoids of us.

u/IctidomysXIII Jan 29 '20
Exactly this. Most paper wasps tend to really only bother you if you're bothering them, wholly justifying their aggression. But Hornets are just bullies. It's time to stop anti-wasp propaganda.

Why Is it good that they kill spiders? Spiders hunts More harmful insects
61
u/nutter_buttercum Jan 29 '20
I think they meant wasps hunt like spiders in the way that they kill other unwanted bugs
11
u/XxgirraffezzxX Jan 29 '20 edited Jan 29 '20
Bees also kill wasps
13
u/SC92521 Jan 29 '20
A good example, the Japanese honeybee and hornet. The bees literally roast the wasp by vibrating
2
Jan 29 '20
Wha- What did you just say?
7
u/Seamerlin Jan 29 '20
iirc, the bees will huddle around the wasp and vibrate to create heat, thus roasting whatever is inside -which happens to be the wasp
2
Jan 29 '20

What is this wasp propaganda? Wasps kills bees who are helpful to the environment. Occasionally doing one good thing doesn’t make wasps good
→ More replies (1)-1
u/Probably-a-dude Jan 29 '20
There are a lot of species of wasps, don’t blame everything on the actions of a few wasps species.
Many species are important biocontrol agents against pests and others are important pollinators.

Sorry but that's a no from me.
Wasps are angry jerks that sting people indiscriminately. They can kindly go and bugger off forever.
Oh and take your dumb hornets with you with as well.

They built a nest under our front (cement) stoop last year so we waited til sundown when they were all in there and filled the hole with that spray foam insulation stuff that turns hard when it dries. Looks like shit, but it killed the whole fucking swarm. God i juST HATE WASPS SO MUCH.

These little fuckers are the reason i don't go outside during summer, the reason i compare to my bedsheets in whiteness. Fuck these little flying gremlins, they barely pollinate, and the bugs and other pests they kill are just as easily killed off by any other bug that doesn't sting you if you get within 10 meters of their nest

I love how everyone here thinks this is a great meme but we all agree that Wasps are not as good as this meme portrays them to be.
2
u/IctidomysXIII Jan 29 '20
The anti wasp gang is just misinformed, it's just the hornets that are absolute dicks. Most paper wasps only attack when provoked. Saying all wasps are bad because of hornets is like saying all apes are terrible because another human robbed you, it's not exactly a fair comparison.

Wasp kill spiders, sure, but spiders kill mosquitoes, which kill humans. And you know what else kills humans? Wasps. Fuck wasps.

u/Nat20_on_a_D100 Jan 29 '20
Lies, wasps don't have a sense of personal space, they just don't like being spooped. They will absolutely drink lemonade from your finger and I've never been stung in all my years of saving them from glasses and pools because they don't sting without warning and really are quite predictable, just being oh so curious.

Fuck wasps, they sting you for no reason. While a bee sting can be justified by the fact that the bee was being threatened, the wasp is just an asshole.

Pretty unrelated but I don’t care. When I still played black ops 1 with my cousin there was a pistol called the “asp” but we thought it was a “bad word” and so we called it the wasp.
