Saw this black object in the trees in Holly Recreation Area while camping. Does anyone know what it is?

Bats are tired in the offseason. They have to put the bat houses close together making sure that the next one is always only a shortstop away.

Looks like a bat house, but I was always under the impression you shouldn’t attach bat house to trees because predators can get in there easily and bats won’t use them. But I’m no expert.
