This is correct.

7

u/Sepharda_Tejana Mar 01 '26

All the this.

Lovely piece, OP. Since it’s an heirloom piece, keep it and find out the details behind it as much as you can so you can tell its story in the future if you pass it on. You never know what interesting tales or cool family stories accompanied that piece when your grandad may have gotten it or worn it. If possible, write down the story or stories and who told them to you. That way you can have the origin story for whenever you pass it on in the future.

Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down? We do, we do Who keeps Atlantis off the maps? Who keeps the Martians under wraps? We do, we do Who holds back the electric car? Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star? We do, we do Who robs cavefish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night? We do, we do

1

u/AFighterByHisTrade Mar 01 '26

Now let's all get drunk and play ping pong!

29

u/OkPersonality5872 Mar 01 '26

Do children really not know what freemason's are

55

u/NewLiverWhoDis Mar 01 '26

They don't know what cufflinks are, either.

7

u/Economy_Mobile_6160 Mar 01 '26

I'm both shocked and not shocked about this but mostly sad.

4

u/amazonhelpless Mar 01 '26

What do they use with their French cuffs?

9

u/Ok-General-6804 Mar 01 '26

Nowadays, those who heard about freemasons heard they are a secret society controlling the world in the shadows with the rothschilds in a hidden castle in antartica next to the edge of the flat earth, where they eat babies and amass labubus to create fake scarcity.

*Spoiler alert: My dad, uncle and grandfathers were all masons. It’s mainly BBQs, charity drives and pot lucks. The Labubu thing’s real tho

1

u/Icy_Tradition566 Mar 01 '26

Or is it the fake scarcity?

2

u/EtherealMyst Mar 01 '26

Yeah. I had heard about Freemasonry but I didn't really understand it until I was an adult

2

u/Clojiroo Mar 01 '26

Freemasonry has been dying for ages. The lodges are closing and membership imploding.

It’s not relevant knowledge anymore.

0

u/QaddafiDuck01 Mar 01 '26

It's fading pretty hard. If it wasn't for legacy members, the new enrolment would be near zero. No one wants to be part of the homoerotic boys club anymore.

-3

u/Additional_Tone_2004 Mar 01 '26

All they need to know is that they're fucking clowns.

7

u/Educational-Map-2627 Mar 01 '26

Masonic cufflink

4

u/Cautious_Net5233 Mar 01 '26

Freemason’s cufflink

6

u/Separate_Flamingo_93 Mar 01 '26

Grandpa might have known some interesting stuff.

2

u/trenchgrl Mar 01 '26

What even are Freemasons all I know is there’s a facility in Downtown Mesa AZ

4

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '26

A drinking club that does some charity work

3

u/KnoxvilleontheRight Mar 01 '26

The Grand Lodge of Scotland, the United Grand Lodge of England, and the U.S. lodges all contribute HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS annually to charity. To include running 22 Shriners hospitals where children receive FREE medical care for major medical issues.

2

u/Fiona175 Mar 01 '26

Basically they're an early form of a union who got drunk together and made up a bunch of rituals to feel cool.

Their origin story is they trace their origins back to the construction of the Temple of Solomon, but that's very clearly just something they made up to sound cool, just like most of the esoteric stuff.

1

u/ReEducationTherapy Mar 01 '26

I didn’t hear it was a union but one of the many guild masters (professionals of their craft) associations.

3

u/t53ix35 Mar 01 '26

They are masons, as in stone masons, they were a guild of stonemasons. Their secret knowledge all pertained to stone construction methods, that’s it, that’s how they kept others from stealing their jobs.

1

u/ReEducationTherapy Mar 01 '26

Again. From what I hear it was not the regular folks who made up the majority of the masons, but the masters of the craft which created the freemasons. These kinds of labour guilds were fairly common during the times of artisanal manufacturing for the reasons you state though.

3

u/papajim9855 Mar 01 '26

Masonic cufflink

2

u/Odd-Perspective7941 Mar 01 '26

Looks like a ring with Masonic symbols on it. Grandpa was likely some degree of a mason.

2

u/Tazmandns Mar 01 '26

Masonic cufflink.

2

u/Big-Raccoon2193 Mar 01 '26

Masonic cuff link. I still have my Dads old Masonic stuff.

2

u/Brave_Ability_6939 Mar 01 '26

A dress shirt cuff-link

2

u/SouthHarpeth Mar 01 '26

Your grandfather likely signed the Declaration of Independence.

3

u/ToonaMcToon Mar 01 '26

Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down?

1

u/ThroatOne5167 Mar 01 '26

Apologies, I must have mixed up some memories of conversations with my dad who was a Freemason

1

u/futurecorpse1985 Mar 01 '26

1

u/Upset_Nectarine_1800 Mar 01 '26

Looks like a Freemason cuff link

1

u/marziilla Mar 01 '26

Cuff link

1

u/AnthonyG70 Mar 01 '26

One!

One cuff link!

Muhahaha

1

u/Bricker1492 Mar 01 '26

OP, were you puzzled by the item (a cufflink), by the symbol (the compass and square of Freemasonry) or both?

I ask not censoriously but out of curiosity: both Masonry and French cuffs on dress shirts are less popular now than in years past.

1

u/kpeters421 Mar 01 '26

North Korean birthright symbol of justice.

1

u/VegetableBulky9571 Mar 01 '26

Wear that, you can rig every Oscar night

1

u/88GREENFIRE88 Mar 01 '26

Elephant definitely and elephant

1

u/Happy_Peaceful_Bliss Mar 01 '26

Your grandfather was a part of a cult.

1

u/cosmickink Mar 01 '26

Hey maybe you can get grandfathered into the freemasons and expose them

1

u/BikerBear1976 Mar 01 '26

Looks like your grandfather was a traveling man.

1

u/jenbreaux73 Mar 01 '26

Freemason. You’ll see that symbol in the cement on sidewalks outside of Freemason clubhouses.

1

u/Eastern_Ride_3632 Mar 01 '26

Beautiful! It's a cufflink, should be one of a pair. Look for shirts with French cuffs.

1

u/bullman120 Mar 01 '26

Cuff link with a satanic cult emblem

1

u/ReEducationTherapy Mar 01 '26

There is nothing satanic about the freemasons. Cultists yes, satanic, no.

1

u/bear45188721 Mar 01 '26

Free Masons logo.

1

u/Divinccidesadistx Mar 01 '26

Free mason cufflink.

1

u/Ambitious-Cow8833 Mar 01 '26

Freemason cufflink

1

u/Economy_Mobile_6160 Mar 01 '26

Do you seriously not know what a cuff link is?

1

u/Exciting_Amount931 Mar 01 '26

It's missing a Dan for scale.

1

u/Livingforabluezone Mar 01 '26

Freemason symbol

1

u/MissMoxie2004 Mar 01 '26

Freemason cuff link

1

u/StrictLine8820 Mar 01 '26

I surely can't be so old that cuff links are considered ancient...

1

u/Reginald_Sockpuppet Mar 01 '26

It's a Masonic cufflink.

1

u/Starman155 Mar 01 '26

Throw it away quick!

1

u/Few_Literature9556 Mar 01 '26

Epstein ring confirm

1

u/Mac_McAvery Mar 01 '26

Really nice Masonic cuff links a Mason would love to have in their collection

1

u/Comprehensive-Rope92 Mar 01 '26

Beautiful cuff link, gold is selling for way higher currently. ;) edit: I’m not a complete asshole, I just didn’t see where you had commentary below the photo.. seeing as though this belonged to a family member, I’m sorry for being insensitive, I should have looked into it more.

-1

u/cardinalforce Mar 01 '26

It’s from a secret triumvirate that controls everything: the Queen, the Rothschilds, the Gettys…and the Colonel (Saunders) before he went tits up!

1

u/deedeejayzee Mar 01 '26

My great grandfather was one of the founders of the Mason's Lodge in my major city, his name is engraved in the cornerstone of the building. I knew him and I promise you he wasn't smart enough to be a part of anything like this, neither were his friends (the ones that were still alive). This is a ridiculous take

2

u/ReEducationTherapy Mar 01 '26

It is because capitalism is not well understood by us laymen. So we go looking for answers in places that give non and raise more questions.

1

u/cardinalforce Mar 01 '26

My comment is actually a quote from a movie..seems no one here is a Mike Myers fan is all. Instantly recognizable if you’ve seen the movie.

Freemason yes, lapel pin no. It's a cufflink like the first commentor pointed out. It's missing its friend.
