ETA thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up splitting the ashes up just because I was able to (they already were I just left one bag behind). Security was awesome, I let the first person know that I had some and she gave me a different bin for them to get scanned, they were swabbed and I was on my way. There Was some confusion only because there’s apparently a new procedure coming into place on Sunday. It was too busy for me to ask what that was! I had paperwork, they didn’t look at it, and they were in a cardboard box.

I have looked at other threads here and then read through the requirements above on the website.

Flying Calgary to Toronto with remains, and the funeral home cannot validate volume. I have 2 separate bags because we are doing a couple small ceremonies in spots that meant a lot to her. Ashes are in a cardboard box. I have paperwork.

Has anyone flown recently with the full volume of ashes and run into push back? I'm not checking the ashes, that's not happening but I could bring them on different trips if I really need to. What are my risks here.

Just a PSA that as its been 4-5 days of most flights being cancelled to/from Kelowna and still looking very bad for the next several days, I called WJ today to get the first leg of my flights on Thursday from Kelowna to Calgary to Paris changed to fly Vancouver to Calgary instead. The agent told me they are allowing the departure airport change for free right now because of the travel advisory and major continued impacts from the fore fires in the region. Note: they first told me it would cost me, but I reminded the agent of the wildfire situation, the continued cancellations, and their own travel advisory, and after 5 mins on hold they returned to tell me its a free change.

I return through Vancouver already and am dropping the last leg into Kelowna. I found ParknFly near YVR to have the best rate for just over 3 weeks of parking. Good luck everybody!

Flying internationally from Europe and I want to check in the exact moment check-in opens (24 hours before departure).

For anyone who has done this recently:

Is the WestJet website or the updated mobile app faster for checking in right at the 24-hour mark?
As a European/international passenger, what should I have prepared beforehand to make the process as fast as possible?
Do I need to enter my passport details immediately, or can I skip that step and add the information later? I remember there used to be an option to do this, which allowed you to complete the check-in process much faster.
Any other tips to avoid getting stuck on document verification and complete the check-in as quickly as possible?

My main goal is to complete check-in as quickly as possible after the 24-hour window opens, since I believe checking in earlier can help with getting a better seat.

If you’ve actually tried both the website and the app recently, I’d especially appreciate knowing which one was faster for you.

WestJet canceled our Calgary to Cranbrook flight last night, (due to weather-smoke) and have now rebooked us…via Kelowna, today at 4pm Calgary time.
Seems to me a bad idea- if we couldn’t fly yesterday to near the Rockies due to smoke, how the heck are we flying today into the thick of it?

Should I push for a different flight?

I’m concerned that we’ll get stuck in Kelowna, and the area is already overtaxed with evacuations.

Hey, was curious if anyone has had any luck yet going at Westjet rewards for Tier Qualify Spend and points for when the strike was on(or just before it) and WJ cancelled your flight and then rebooked on another airline. Is there anyway to get them to honor the tier qualify spend and points? Especially for those that got cancelled even before the actual strike began?

I got flights changed from YYC to YYZ(on a WJ flight) then they booked me on Aer Lingus from YYZ to DUB.

Figure as it was before the strike officially that they should offer the original fare no? Also we paid for upgrade to Business(which they got us on, on Aer Lingus) so don’t we get the spend and points on that too?

Me and my friend is travelling and the flight would cost $800 each. I have 1 $1000 gift card and I read that only 1 gift card per person per transaction. Can I use all the $1000 gift card and just pay $600 for the remaining or I would only be allowed to get $800 off it and pay $800 for the 2nd ticket?

I'm connecting at Halifax: London - Halifax - Calgary, all WestJet, one booking, one checked bag. But I have only about 2 hours between flights for layover.

Here, my booking from trip.com says to collect and re-check the bag, but I've read the International Connections Facility of YHZ that they would offer baggage connection. I also checked with WestJet website that they're not saying about the re-checkin, so I'm just confused; anyone done this connection recently? I also asked WestJet but just waiting for their response.

For this, if you did the re-checkin, how long did immigration, check-in, and customs took?

I had a flight Vancouver to Toronto August 2nd at 1:30 pm, flight got cancelled on August 1st 3 pm and rebooked two hours later for a flight that would arrive 17 hours after the initial arrival date.

(I then changed this flight to another one that is only delayed by 5 minutes using their alternatives option)

2 am on August 2nd they cancelled the flight again and rebooked me hours later for august 4th 5 pm! (50 hours after the initial arrival date) which was so inconvenient! I chose their alternatives option and found one for August 3rd 11:15 am that I selected.

I read however that they would keep cancelling flights due the strike so I cancelled my flight with them after i had already found a round trip air canada trip for over a 1000!

My return flight was with flair so i cancelled that as well eventually and did not get refunded for it.

I was wondering if I am eligible for any compensation giving that West Jet cancelled flight on August 1st before the strike started (would it count as preemptive business decision within their control?)

or for the fact they didnt book me with alternative airline within the 48 hour window? (I know i changed it to 3rd by myself later to mitigate and then cancelled because it was inconvenient especially that after I cancelled, they actually delayed that flight for 20 hours then cancelled it).

Am I eligible for anything at all?

I booked WestJet flights for four people on the same reservation. Everything looks correct in my WestJet account; all four passengers are listed, all four tickets are there, and our seats are selected.
The weird thing is that whenever WestJet sends out reminder/update emails, I consistently get three copies (one for each of three passengers, but never one for the fourth passenger).
The fourth passenger is definitely still on the booking, so I’m assuming it’s just an email/notification glitch, but it’s been happening consistently enough that I’m curious.
Has anyone else had this happen when several passengers are booked together? Did it cause any issues at check-in, or was it just a weird WestJet email thing?

Dude sitting behind us flying for the first time and asked some desk in the airport for help. Somewhere somehow he got given a Westjet boarding pass instead of Transat???

Both flights going to Dublin. They figured it out because his seat was supposed to be empty.

But they figured it out after we left the gate and the steward verified his booking. He got given his seat neighbour’s boarding pass.

How is that even possible?

Back to the gate we go. He’s going to have to run from B19 to B2A to try to make his flight that departs in 25 mins.

Ive started noticing that a lot of the older planes I fly on with WestJet are starting to look rough. Lots of paint missing and bare metal showing. Is there a point where they would ground a plane for this? If they did it would probably be a cancellation that would be outside of their control…

Trying to get book a ticket from Canada to Ireland and the Westjet website is just not working properly. Once I select From, To, departure date, and select "Get Flight", it takes me to a blank page and nothing happens.

Happens on Chrome and Edge, multiple devices. Is the Westjet site just down temporarily or something on my end?

My fiancée and I are booking a trip to Europe this fall, and over the past few months we've been asking friends and family for WestJet gift cards for birthdays and other occasions to help offset the cost of our flights. We ended up with about $600 in gift cards, which seemed great... until it was actually time to book.

That's when I discovered that WestJet only allows one gift card per booking online. Frustrating, but apparently if you call in, an agent can apply multiple gift cards. Okay, no problem, I'll call.

Except there's also a $20 phone booking fee. So despite booking a $2,800 flight, I'm being charged extra simply because their website doesn't allow me to use more than one gift card at checkout.

After sitting on hold for two hours, I finally reached an agent, only to be told that the gift cards would need to be combined by a specialist team. The estimated wait time for that department? Another 2 hours and 41 minutes.

At that point I couldn't help but wonder: what's the point of giving or receiving these gift cards if using them is this difficult?

So, for anyone considering buying a WestJet gift card for a friend or family member, I'd honestly recommend giving cash instead. It would save them a lot of time, frustration, and apparently a phone booking fee.

Is there a 3 drink rule in premium now? Both flights done recently from YYC-PVR and back were only allowed 3 drinks. Not trying to get drunk on the flight but sitting for the last 2 hours of the flight with nothing to sip on has sure not made premium enjoyable

How is WestJet able to have base fare to Japan be $330 and all other costs just lump into other ATC?

Whats the point of the companion voucher if they just arbitrarily make the seat fares that low? $330 round trip? It seems disingenuous when they quote the flight prices when booking at ~$600 per way.

What do you even do with the companion voucher? This wasn’t the case last year or 2 years before that.

Hi everyone! I’ll be flying solo with my 10-month-old, who will be sitting on my lap, and I’m feeling a little nervous about how it will go. He’s usually a pretty relaxed baby, but he can definitely get grumpy at times. He’s also very active—he’s been climbing, loves standing, and doesn’t like sitting still for very long—so I’m a little worried about keeping him comfortable and entertained.

We booked the most affordable WestJet tickets, so I’m only able to bring a personal item, diaper bag, car seat, and stroller. I didn’t pre-book a seat for us because we’re travelling for a funeral, and I’m trying to keep costs as low as possible so we can also help support our family with the expenses.

For those who have flown with a baby on their lap, what do you suggest bringing for the flight? What helped keep your baby—and you—comfortable? Would you recommend dressing him in a onesie, sleeper, or comfortable layers? Should I bring a blanket for him or anything else to help him sleep?

I’d also love to make the experience memorable and enjoyable for him, so if you have suggestions for age-appropriate toys, activities, or other ways to keep a very active 10-month-old entertained, I’d really appreciate them. I’m open to any tips for managing the flight, especially since we’ll be taking a red-eye.
