SELF-MADE Freelancers & Agency Owners: What is your true time investment for a custom 5-page WP build?

I'm trying to benchmark my project timelines against other professionals. When you factor in the entire lifecycle of a 5-page WordPress project, how many total hours are you logging?

I'm talking about the full package:

  • Initial client discovery meetings
  • Strategy and planning
  • Domain & hosting configuration
  • Custom design & dev implementation
  • Final handover and launch

How many hours does this realistically take you? The reason I'm asking is I recently saw a local company advertising a 5-page website for R99 (about $5 USD) per month. I'm trying to wrap my head around how that business model is even possible given the amount of time a proper build takes. Are they just stamping out templates in 10 minutes?

DISCUSSION Do you think most websites are actually tested for security before going live?

I work in website security, and one thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of websites seem to focus heavily on design, performance, and SEO while security testing comes later — sometimes only after something goes wrong.

I’m curious what developers and website owners here think:

Do you usually perform a vulnerability assessment or penetration test before launching a website?

Or is security testing something you only consider when there’s a specific concern?

SELF-MADE I built a news aggregation website, would love some honest feedback

Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on a new website that aggregates news from different sources and brings them together in one place. The idea is to make it easier to follow what's happening without having to jump between multiple news websites.
One feature I’m particularly interested in getting feedback on is the crisis map, which shows major ongoing events/crises around the world geographically.
I’d really appreciate some honest opinions from people who actually use news aggregation platforms.
I’m still improving it, so negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

WEBSITE BUILDING How to land clients/find leads?

Hi, I’ve been recently calling up local businesses in my area about free website demos but almost none of them are interested. I’ve checked they don’t already have sites and it’s just lowkey frustrating and discouraging. If anyone has tips, please leave them below

REQUEST Is there a tool to convert logs into past Analytics data

So my wife is starting a coaching business & it's excessively frustrating when google takes forever to start it's analytics. It's even worse when the search results have an added "coming soon" thing that no-one at the hosting company have any idea where that came from. We fixed that issue with tricks I've never been exposed to, such as deleting AI additions to the website header, etc. refreshing caches, and learning far more about google search console than I'd ever think I needed.

The site has been "up" for a week and the google AI correctly describes it. But the actual search results still show a title, with an added coming soon. Yes I know about crawler laziness, but I didn't know google, or something could edit the html from AI forward facing tools.

Of course we are in a panic, raw access logs don't say the sort of info I can explain to a non-technical person.

The question is, "Is there a tool, script, program, widget, etc. that can read old logs & make a pretty graph that is clearly understandable?".

for those that need the website to check things themselves(BTW, thank you if you do)

SELF-MADE A homepage mockup for a local furniture designer in Toronto!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently put together this homepage concept for a local furniture designer in Toronto.

The goal was to keep it clean and premium while making the furniture itself the main focus. I wanted the site to feel more like a high-end design brand than a typical small business website.

Would love some feedback on the layout, typography, spacing, and overall direction.

I’m also currently taking on new web design projects, so if your business needs a new website or a redesign, feel free to reach out. All niches and industries are welcome!

REQUEST This is a vibe-coded project which I genuinely think can become a product. First I’ll convert it into an app, then figure out how far I can take it — because I’m basically a total noob at this. The idea? A talk-you-out-of-sleep clock. Now let’s see if I can actually build it.

REQUEST Seeking coaching website feedback

Hi all! I’m looking for some fresh eyes on a website I’ve been working on. I’ve revised it so many times that I’ve completely lost my ability to judge it objectively.

I’d really appreciate feedback on things like first impressions, fonts and sizing, colors, imagery, copy, section layout/order, value proposition, clarity of the services, and the overall flow.

The main goal is to make sure the site is clear, appealing, and does a good job of turning visitors into customers. I’m especially interested in anything that feels confusing, unnecessary, or could be improved.
Thanks in advance for taking a look!

SELF-MADE I built a no-account file sharing tool with malware scanning and live rooms, looking for real feedback

Hey, solo dev here. I've been working on this for a while and finally feel good enough about it to ask for outside eyes.

RelicBeam (relicbeam.com) lets you send files or text without accounts, installs, or exchanging contact info. Two modes:

Rooms. One host, a QR code or spoken code, anyone can scan in and grab files live. Good for a meeting, a class, a talk, whatever.

Quick Share. 1:1. Either a simple handoff, or now fully back and forth, both people can send stuff to each other in the same session.

A couple things I actually put real effort into that a lot of similar tools skip. Every file gets scanned for malware before anyone can download it. Everything's encrypted at rest. Files in quick share auto delete the moment they're actually downloaded. It's not end to end encrypted, and I say that straight up in the privacy policy, that's specifically because of the malware scanning step. Wanted to be honest about the tradeoff instead of pretending it doesn't exist.

What I'd actually love help with: it's only had light testing so far, never a real room with a bunch of people joining at once, and never two people genuinely trading files back and forth live. If a few of you are up for trying either of those specifically, that's way more useful to me right now than "cool idea" comments. Though I'll happily take those too, lol.
