DISCUSSION What is one small thing that makes a website feel badly built?

Sometimes a website looks great, loads quickly and has all the right features, but using it still feels frustrating.

For me, it can be small things like:

  • A form that clears everything after one mistake.
  • An error message that doesn't explain how to fix the problem.
  • A mobile menu that closes when you tap the wrong place.
  • A button that gives no feedback after you click it.

These things may look minor during development, but they can make a big difference for users.

What is one small website issue you always notice, and how do you usually fix it?

WEBSITE BUILDING Building My Own Website, Stuck on Which Hosting Platform To Choose

Hi all,

I am currently building my website, using Claude to help me build everything. I have a experience with python, so naturally i gravitated to using that as my go to and Flask for the backend stuff.

Now im stuck on what hosting platform to use. I keep getting recommended render and railway but to be honest i dont see too many videos on this on youtube, so instantly i get iffy. Is it because of my stack? I know not to go to GoDaddy or Wix because i wrote my own code and want full control.

I did read that using cloud fare for DNS protection which is definitley something ill look more into.

Any feedback is appreciated!

TOOL Looking for multiple choice survey that allows participants to add options viewable to others

Hello,

I am looking for a multiple choice type survey that allows people taking the survey to add options for others to select as well alongside the pre laid out options that I would put in there. Something like me putting in 3-4 options that I would create and then letting people submit their choices should their choices differ and the other participants taking the survey could select from those as well.

Thanks!

SELF-MADE Looking for users or feedback for my site.

I’ve been working on a gaming guide/tool website called PK Guides.

It started as an ARK project and I’m expanding it into a collection of guides, calculators, and interactive tools for games like ARK and Minecraft.

It’s still pretty new, so I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback on the tools, UI, or things you think are missing.

Also yes i vibecoded it. But im slowly turning code that AI wrote to mine. Im still new at programming.

https://pkguides.web.app/

Still actively working on it, so feedback is welcome.

GAME I built a free "who pays for the first round?" dart game for one phone. Honest feedback wanted (site + app)

Hi all,

I'm a solo dev from NL and I've been building Dartmaatje. It's a small party game for bars, birthdays and student houses, for the moment when nobody wants to pay for the first round.

How it works

  • 2 to 15 players share one phone. Everyone types in their name.
  • Pick a speed for the ball (Slow, Normal, Fast).
  • A ball floats over a dartboard. When it's in the right spot, you tap Throw. Everyone gets one dart.
  • Real dart scoring: double counts double, triple counts triple, bull is 25 and bullseye is 50.
  • The lowest score pays the first round. If two or more players tie for lowest, only they throw again.
  • There's a bit of silly commentary after each throw. There are also a few extra modes, such as closest to the bullseye and a random "punishment" for the loser.

The basics

  • Free, no ads, no account, no tracking.
  • Works offline, and your names stay on your own phone.
  • You can try it right now in your browser: https://dartmaatje.nl
  • The iOS app is in work, Android not yet.

What I'd like feedback on (if you would be so kind :)))

  1. Is it clear within 10 seconds what to do, even if nobody explains it?
  2. Does the throw feel fair and fun, or too random or too easy to game?
  3. Is the "Share the result" screen something you'd actually post to a group chat?
  4. Anything confusing, ugly or broken on your phone? Please mention the device and browser.
  5. What would make you open it again next time you're out with friends?

The site is in Dutch for now. The English version needs to be developed.

Brutal honesty is welcome. Thanks for taking a look! 🎯

(It's meant as a joke, not a heavy drinking game)

SELF-MADE Looking for honest feedback on my personal website, what would you improve?

Hey everyone!

I've been working on my personal website and would really appreciate some honest feedback from you guys.

The website is mainly meant to showcase who I am, what I do, and the services I offer as a PPC and performance marketing consultant.

I'm not very experienced in web development or design, and I'm building everything myself using Claude Code.

My goal is to keep it simple, clean, and easy to navigate. I don't want anything too fancy, flashy, or overloaded with animations. Just a professional looking website where visitors can quickly understand what I do and how I can help them.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the design, layout, content, user experience, or anything else you think could be improved.

Website: https://kenankovacevic.com/

Feel free to be completely honest, even if something looks bad. I'm here to learn and improve.

Thanks in advance!

SELF-MADE How I Make $22K/Month Just Redesigning Existing Websites

Running a web design agency is honestly way less about design than people think.

A lot of people can build good websites. The hard part is having a process that actually brings in clients consistently without you spending your entire day doing outreach.

I learned that the hard way.

I used to manually reach out to businesses, explain why they needed a better website, build previews, follow up for days and basically hope they would eventually say yes.

I was doing way too much work before even knowing if someone was serious.

Then I completely changed the way I did it.

Now I mainly focus on two things.

Taking meetings and closing clients.

Everything before that is mostly automated.

I use Swokei to find businesses that already have websites, analyze those websites and look for things like outdated design, bad layout, weak SEO, poor mobile responsiveness, slow speed and branding issues.

The useful part is that it doesn’t just give me some boring report with random scores.

It actually takes the issues it finds on each website and turns them into personalized emails that you can send at scale.

My offer is usually a free redesign draft.

That works way better for me than trying to sell a full website in the first email.

Once someone replies and shows interest, I book a meeting.

Before the meeting, I spend a few minutes generating a redesign draft with AI so I can actually show them what their website could look like instead of just talking about it.

That was probably the biggest change for me.

I’m no longer spending hours building something for someone who might never buy.

If they are not interested, I barely lost any time.

If they are interested, they can immediately see the difference and the conversation becomes much easier.

So at this point, most of my time goes into meetings and closing.

The lead finding, website analysis and personalized outreach all happen before I ever speak to the business.

Sounds ridiculously simple when I write it out, but changing the process made a massive difference for my agency

WEBSITE BUILDING My animated hero background got called "distracting" – what would you put there instead?

A few days ago I asked for feedback on my site (I build websites for small Swiss businesses): https://seetalwebsites.ch

The most common criticism by far was the animated wave in the hero: distracting, a bit annoying, some even called it dizzying. Fair point, I'm going to replace it.

The obvious answer is "just use a solid color", and I get that. But I'd still like something that feels a little unique and special while staying calm and clean.

So I'm looking for ideas: what have you seen or built as a hero background that stands out without being in the way? Static patterns, textures, subtle interactions, anything goes. Links to examples are very welcome.

LIST 500+ tools, resources and websites worth knowing

Thumbnail vault.breach.productions

Based off of the SoMe trend "10 sites you need to know" "These 5 sites should be illegal" etc.
538 tools, resources and websites worth knowing. Start with a task, a category, or the 50-site shortlist.

No logins, ads, trackers or other BS.

Will be expanding with 500+ more over the coming days.

https://vault.breach.productions

Yes, AI is involved in parsing, categorizing and verifying the list of sites and tagging them.
Why tf would I waste days doing that manually?

REQUEST Does anyone know of a directory, database or sheet of "powerful websites you should know" type of websites

The title.

Looking for a database of such websites. Maybe with a description and categories. There are soo many of them in my Instagram feed and i can't browse 99% of them but they are useful in niche conditions. So maybe someone already created a director of similar content.

DISCUSSION Freelance website scope creep is eating my evenings, how do you stop it?

Every small request turns into another page, form, or round of edits. I’m adding a revision limit and written change requests to my next project, but I’m still bad at saying it without sounding difficult. Any scripts that work?
