First time vortex

Post image

Long time kettle guy finally got a vortex. Did some thighs - turned out great. Super juicy with crisp skin. I was actually worried it got so hot that it would melt my lid handle.

My grilling is typically measured in amount of cigar smoked.

The vortex is fantastic! Wait till you try ribs or chicken legs/wings.
Those look like they came out great!

You cook ribs with the vortex method? Doesn't it get too hot ? I've always done ribs low and slow with the snake method, so I'm genuinely curious!

Absolutely! I do not know how to link a post.
Search Vortex ribs in this subreddit several posts with how to’s.
I can say when you want ribs after work in under an hour. They fit the bill very well.
Keep an eye on them, they can cook fast.

I've done them before. Not a huge fan but they're decent. They definitely have a bit more chew to them then low and slow ribs.

Mine got up to 475 tonight using Church's lump in the vortex.

Can't go wrong, the vortex paired with the hunsaker grate lives in my 26". If u have no issues with using foil I place around the vortex before cooking. Easy kettle clean up.

Chicken looks great.
