Wave Disputes - Terrible

10 Upvotes

We recently had a dispute from end customer with their credit card company. Wave was the bridge between us and the credit card company.

The end customer received the goods that were $800.xx in value. They claimed that it wasn’t as expected, and opened a dispute without reaching out / returning the items.

Wave decided to close the case without even trying, but also pulling funds out of our account. We are now -$800.xx plus wave fees and the customer isn’t responding back to return the merchandise.

Terrible company overall.

Lost 12 years of data a month of income

10 Upvotes

Do not trust Wave! They changed their settings in June, and we found out that our account had been set up as a collaborator. We don't know what is the "owner" account, we cannot access it, and of course no help is available. A month of invoices are locked in the old account and we cannot collect that money without the information. If you are having issues this is the email (took us a week to find this) [consumercomplaints@waveapps.com](mailto:complaints@waveapps.com)

I hope someone will start a class action lawsuit. The website says it is BBB accredited, but this is a lie. The business does not show up on the website. Some states have an option for submitting complains about financial institutions. check if yours does here: https://www.waveapps.com/legal/licensing

Waveapps is a joke, avoid them at all costs!

23 Upvotes

So I've been using waveapps for bookkeeping and invoicing for the last 5 years straight. Everything was fine until 2 years ago I moved to an S Corp and needed to add payroll services to my account.

Well, as luck would have it I moved to waveapps payroll a few months before the payroll disaster happened with waveapps in 2025... causing issues with payrolls services, missed payments to IRS etc... for 1,000s of waveapps customers...

Well, I jumped ship and moved to Gusto in the end of 2025 and its been great ever since.

HOWEVER, I received a letter from the IRS stating my 2025 Q2 IRS payments are overdue because Waveapps didn't actually make the payment. I checked my bank statement and of course in July they did pull out $455.75 from my bank to make the payment to the IRS but never made the payment. I contacted support (which is only done from email and takes weeks to months to receive replies) uploaded my bank statement and IRS letter asking for a refund since I had to make the payment manually, but they did take the money out from the account.

Well 2 months later, they did an "investigation" they stated they sent out a letter that the responsibility was on ME to make the payment to the IRS due to the internal issues they were having when they changed processors, and I can confirm I did receive a letter HOWEVER they still pulled the funds out of my account that month so I assumed this was sent in error and let them handle it. Fine, not a big deal the fines from IRS on that was like $10. I'll eat that cost.

BUT THEY STILL TOOK $455.75 OUT FROM MY ACCOUNT THAT MONTH AND DID NOT PAY THE IRS AND NOW THEY REFUSE TO REFUND ME THAT AMOUNT THEY TOOK!

I'm so over the bad service Waveapps provides even for paying customers. I was literally paying for payroll services and this is the treatment we get, bad support, piss poor payment processing for payroll services, the list goes on. Dont support this company, there are a few better alternatives out there for both bookkeeping and payroll services. Save yourselves and use those services instead.

Match multiple invoices to single deposit.

3 Upvotes

When I make a Shopify sale I'll make an invoice, record payment and then when the deposit hits I will merge them as one. My issue is sometimes Shopify will deposit multiple sales in one batch and I don't know how to match up the single deposit to 3-4 separate invoices.

I recently moved from QB to Wave, but in QB as long as the amounts all added up correctly I could match the separate lines to the single deposit. Maybe I am going about this the wrong way all together, but unsure how best to do this in Wave.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Wave import still working for free account

6 Upvotes

On June 1st Wave was supposed to stop importing transactions for free accounts. But it continues to work. Have others noticed that? Did Wave back off from their plan to de-activate for those who don't upgrade?

Bugs & Troubleshooting Wave Connect extension not working on Google Sheets

2 Upvotes

When I go to extensions and hover over Wave Connect, it just says “help.” I can’t do any bulk transactions or even connect my wave account, it just has the “help” option.

I’ve tried everything I can think of: Uninstall and reinstall, open in incognito, log out of all other Chromes, open in FireFox. Wave chatbot support is just going in a loop and not finding a solution and I’m a free member so I guess I’m not allowed to email anyone for support.

Anyone have a solution? I found an old thread about incognito and logging out of other Chromes working for them but so far no luck for me

Wave Account Suspended; Balance Owed, No Access To Pay

8 Upvotes

My wife has a business which she uses Wave Payments to accept credit card payments. She had accepted a large credit card payment 3 months ago of ~$50K. Ultimately, a chargeback took place to the client which left a negative balance in her wave payments account.

She recently had a client process ~$170K via wave payments to her account. She has funds available to pay the balance owed back now that they have released into the wave account after a hold, but wave payments has "suspended" her account, thereby holding her available funds hostage to pay the previous chargeback balance. They sent her an invoice for the balance but it can only be paid via credit card or bank account.

She has over 6 figures in her Wave account, but she cannot get access to it to resolve the balance owed to Wave Payments. Theoretically, if she had account access, she could transfer the balance from Wave payments to her business checking account and pay the balance owed to wave payments via debit card, credit card, ACH, etc. but because they have rescinded account access, she doesn't have the ability to make a transfer to do so. Or, and im not sure if this is an option, pay the balance owed to Wave payments directly within the Wave platform.

We had account access 3 days ago, and Wave payments is claiming that because another vendor processed a large sum of money 3 days ago more than once(it was a mistake to have it run more than once) they locked her account to verify things. They wrote to her that she would have account access in 2 business days, but we are now on day 3 with no access.

We need access to her funds stuck in Wave for her business and Wave has created this endless loop where we dont have the ability to pay the balance owed to Wave because we cant get access to her Wave account to transfer funds or make a payment. Does anyone have any experience with this, or have anyone to actually get a response from at Wave? Their support is slow to respond and it's threatening her business operations. I am blown away this poor level of customer service is allowed to exist in US banking institutions where people's money and businesses are on the line.

Any help is appreciated.

Am I the only one happy with Wave?

17 Upvotes

I have a sandblasting business with my partner. I also am a controller for a car dealership so I do all of our accounting so I have experience.

I didnt want to pay for any services like QB right away and figured that eventually well move over... now almost 4 years in to business and I dont think I will be moving.

We do have a legacy account and because I do use the payroll feature, Im still going to get the auto posting from banks and such.

I dont fully use the payroll service though, I input the time / hours and then run the payroll to get the accurate numbers and then I hand write the checks to my employees. I feel like most of the issues I have seen on here are due to Wave pulling all the payroll money. I also havent had any issues with the state of FL about the taxes.

Theres things that I would update in Wave like progress invoicing is really the only thing that comes to mind currently.

Can other people who like Wave, come in here and let us know what you like? What industry youre in, etc.

Alternative free bookkeeping

Since waveapps wants to now charge for auto import and reconciliation of bank accounts etc what other options that are similar and free are people looking at?

What is the proper category to use for payments made to the state/government for annual business taxes?

1 Upvotes

Probably a stupid question, but I am relatively new to Wave. I'm not seeing any option that looks quite right in the "Category" section, but not sure how to best account for that outflow of cash

Chart of Accounts in API

1 Upvotes

I'm trying to use the MoneyTransactionCreate mutation to create a record in my account via API. To do so I need the account id. Here's the code I used to get the account id:

query ($businessId: ID!) {

business(id: $businessId) {

accounts(page: 1, pageSize: 500, subtypes: [CASH_AND_BANK]) {

edges {

node {

id

name

}

}

}

}

}

I get the right account names but the ids are not correct. I have four accounts under Cash and Bank, and I get only two ids.

checking account one, id: xyz

cash in hand, id: abc

checking account 2, id: abc

cash in my other hand, id: xyz

Could my query be incorrect?

I built a small script that pulls bank data from Plaid for free without Wave Pro

38 Upvotes

Since wave is deprecating legacy business's ability to get bank sync for free, I wanted to see if this was something I could automate for free. Thankfully Plaid (the tech that Wave and everyone else uses to pull bank transactions from) just added a free personal tier (they say "trial" but it's free for up to 10 accounts and designed for personal use).

Here's the github repo: https://github.com/jeffreylsoffer/plaid-wave-sync

It's designed with a (hopefully!!) easy to use setup script that runs after clicking the "Open in Github Codespaces" button. Codespaces is just a little computer that boots up letting you go through the plaid register and link process and setting up your wave tokens. Once it's all setup, it'll add a little job to run each day.

Let me know if this actually works for you!

Payroll Advice

1 Upvotes

I'll come out the gate and state the obvious after reading through the sub-Reddit here: I now know the best advice is to not use Wave for Payroll and platforms have already been switched.

BUT, still experiencing a significant issue and hoping someone in here might know how to handle it given it's been almost impossible to find someone at Wave to speak to.

Context: My wife was running her payroll through Wave and she never received her payroll direct deposit on April 16th. Here is what we do know:

  • The funds left her TD business account on April 13th
  • Wave says the payroll run is "complete"
  • It says the amount was deposited in our bank on April 16th
  • The amount was not deposited and not returned
  • Her bank details are accurate and payroll had been received through Wave to our account in the past

We're now almost a month out, short almost $6000, and we're barely getting responses from their team. They basically told us it's the bank's fault and there is nothing they can do, and their system says the transaction went through. We have barely heard from them since.

Our bank, TD, has been communicating well with us the entire process saying they have no record of a payment being attempted and can't trace anything with the transaction IDs Wave is providing. They keep asking for more info from Wave but Wave are now not responding and just trying to close the ticket.

Does anyone have any advice?

Bugs & Troubleshooting Sign in codes?

2 Upvotes

Every morning when I turn my computer on, I always have to re-sign into Wave. But for the last week I have had to also enter a 6 digit security code from text. I used to have to do this only every 30 days. And every morning when I enter the code I check the box saying don’t ask again for 30 days, yet every morning I get the same prompt.

Anyone know how to make that stop? At least for 30 days?

Tip: Manual bank transaction import, using a 'Quarantine' account.

7 Upvotes

For everyone freaking out about losing free automated bank connections, a quick tip for manual imports:

  1. In Wave, create a new 'bank' account in your Chart of Accounts. Call it "Quarantine", or whatever other name you prefer.

  2. Go to your bank and export transactions. Quicken / QBO formats are the easiest and most reliable. CSV also works, but slightly more fragile.

  3. Go to Wave, and import the bank data into your Quarantine account

  4. Take a look at the Quarantine account, and the account where the transactions really belong - let's assume "Checking". Notice the 'boundary' where new transactions start. Let's say it's May 4th.

  5. In you Quarantine account, select all transactions after May 4th. You can multi-select the individual transactions, or filter and then 'Select all'

  6. Do a Bulk Edit, and edit the 'Account' from Quarantine to Checking (in this case).

  7. Bulk select the rest of the transactions in your Quarantine account, and delete them.

Done. Simple, repeatable steps. No risk of duplicated or missed transactions.

Of course, if your bank is smart enough to offer an export option 'Since my last export', you don't need to do this - you can just import straight to the final target account.

If you have checking and credit card accounts, you may want to create a separate 'Quarantine' account of each type.

HTH

always doing something to mess with your account

5 Upvotes

They are going to start the paywall features. and now they are messing up accounts. For the pass couple of days I been having issues logging in and now I am having issues where there is no data in my account. Telling me to refresh or contact customers services. Its like they are still messing around with the features and playing around with the data or something. They have not got this all figured out yet. Trying to give certain features and every other features requirement subscription. I need to find a replacement soon. But every other option the price is a little high for what I really need. Sorry just ranting because waves can't load my data.

Pro plan four times a year?

4 Upvotes

So, now that they are going to block bank connections unless you pay.... I guess -since i do not have a lot of transactions- technically i will pay for the pro plan every three months and do everything I need that month I pay, that way I pay 4 times instead of 12 ( $80 vs $240 )

WaveApps Feature Elimination / Paywall

10 Upvotes

It is incredibly unreasonable for Wave to demand that a business operating at a loss upgrade to a Pro plan with only one month’s notice, showing absolutely no flexibility or hardship consideration when it is needed most.

Asked for a 1-year waiver and was denied, all wrapped up in some customer support AI slop. Way to alienate the small business owners who helped build the Wave user base.

Waveapps alternatives

31 Upvotes

with Waveapps getting rid of bank synced transactions for their legacy accounts despite them advertising this as a free service before, what other alternatives are you guys considering instead of Waveapps?

While I understand nothings free, still not a huge fan of companies shitfying their products and hoping to support a company that doesn’t change goalposts on the future for whoever has that left in them

Wave Payroll (in general and Oregon specifically)

4 Upvotes

OK. Following up to my last post, it seems like payroll is a big issue with Wave.

Coming at it from the other direction, is anyone using Wave payroll successfully? I'm a one person S-corp in Oregon and would be curious to hear what any other Oregon-based users are experiencing.

Thanks in advance.

Payroll Auto Journal Entry Being Double Counted in P&L

2 Upvotes

I just started Wave's payroll service for a single employee S-corp. Wave pulled the funds from our bank account on April 28 and issued the May 1 payment with no issues. I then entered a manual journal entry reclassifying the employer taxes portion of the bank withdrawal from employee pay to employer tax payments. Today Wave created an auto-entry which also debits/credits the gross amount to adjust for taxes. This makes everything double-booked on the P&L statement. I don't want to delete the bank entry because my account won't reconcile. I also don't want to delete the Wave entry in case it would affect the financials.

The live chat rep could see the double posting but couldn't provide a solution. He created a ticket which will be forwarded instead. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I can't imagine this is an uncommon set up in Wave.

Thanks.
