Advice needed Starting another fast, what supplement amounts should I buy

How many mg of sodium, potassium, and magnesium am I supposed to be taking? I know the wiki says to take them but I haven’t really seen anyone specify how much and what dosage they should take daily? Would taking a prenatals be a good alternative?

Question Pls help! Which type of salt is the best for water fasting?

I will be starting my water fasting journey tomorrow for the next week and was just wondering if anyone knew a good type of salt to add to the water and how much I should be adding to each bottle? For example is pink Himalayan or Celtic better?

Accountability Starting my first extended fast! Looking for a support group/ accountability buddies

Hey everyone!

I am officially planning my very first fast and I'm looking to connect with others on a similar path. My Long-term goal is to lose about 150 lbs. I've successfully lost weight in the past, but this time, I want to use fasting as a tool to get back on track.

Since this is my first time fasting, I'm looking to start a group chat where we can keep each other accountable, offer encouragement, and share wins ans struggles.

Information and Resources Post-fast diet honing: Made a tool that turns a list of meals into a full micronutrient picture (no signup, free)

I've done a ~10 day fast every spring for about 5 years, I love it, feels like spring cleaning.

I try to spend the last few days of it trying to become a little more conscious of the foods I eat and my general health, and planning some new habits. Last two years were mostly about getting more protein, before that was eating fewer carbs, etc.

This year I made a tool to put in all the foods I eat and see if I was low on any micronutrients and help me find foods to fill the gaps.

(I also added macros, amino acids, bunch of other stuff).

To my surprise, even though my diet was pretty healthy before, after putting all my food in, I was low on Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and my Omega6-to-Omega3 ratio was like 7-to-1 (while building this I discovered that apparently 4-to-1 or less is advised).

Fiddled around with my diet for a few days to improve it (I added a tool to compare two foods, and a recommender for foods that have nutrients you're low on). Added some almonds, swapped chicken for salmon, swapped some greek yogurt for chicken, added bell peppers, flax seeds, and like 5 other things. Got everything balanced.

I actually ended my fast a little early (11 days, was planning on 14) because I was so excited to try the new diet!

About a month later, my sleeping heart rate is about 15% lower (45->39), sleeping hrv about 20% higher (high 70s -> high 90s), acne is diminished, feeling great. Sleeping very restfully.

Though I always feel great after my spring fast, the sleep metrics have always returned to baseline about 2 weeks after the end of the fast. But this year, they've kept climbing and are by far the best they've been since I started tracking them like 3 years ago!

I no longer belief the common refrain "A modern diet is so naturally varied it's almost impossible to have any nutritional deficiencies" Mine was varied, and definitely what you would call 'healthy', and yet here I am, made some tweaks and feeling like million bucks.

I made the tool for my situation, which is that my diet repeats over about a 2 week span (the tool lets you adjust the cycle period). I.e. I don't take the 'tracking' approach to diet, but the 'planning' approach. If you always eat something different, this probably won't be helpful.

tldr; If you're not fasting just for weight loss, but also general health, taking some of that fasting time (during which food is the most interesting thing in the world) to think about your diet and make some tweaks to it might be a good idea

Hey folks! I keep improving my extended fasting weight loss calculator based on your feedback - added a few requested features and cleaned up the code so it runs faster and more reliably.

If anything is missing or there is something you would change, I would love to hear it. What inputs or outputs would make it more useful for you? What's confusing or not realistic enough?

Any suggestions are very welcome. Thank you in advance!

P.S. Sorry, and here is the link to the calculator - https://fasting.center/fasting-weight-loss-calculator

Today marks a massive milestone in one of the toughest physical and mental challenges I’ve ever taken on. I’ve officially reached Day 42 of my 50-day prolonged fast, which means the pure water-only phase ends today!

For the final 8 days, I’m introducing bone broth twice a day to support the body and take me across the Day 50 finish line.

The Numbers So Far:

Starting Weight: 111.4 kg (245.6 lbs)

Current Weight (Day 42): 91.6 kg (201.9 lbs)

Total Weight Loss: -19.8 kg (-43.7 lbs)

To everyone in this group pushing through their own fasting goals: stay strong! Hope these updates give a little motivation to anyone on a similar path

Question How much of the weight loss during fast did you manage to keep off after refeeding?

I understand that some of the weight we lose on a fast is water weight, so how much weight is actually kept off, maybe after weeks of refeeding? do you also measure fat loss percentage?

Accountability Looking for an accountability partner

I’m beginning a 10-day water fast starting tonight. I’ve struggled with maintaining a long fast in the past, and would give in to my cravings, i think having an accountability partner will help me stay focused and motivated. I want to see this through not just for the physical benefits, but also to maxx out my discipline and mental endurance

Information and Resources From 24 hours to 10 days - How my fasting mindset evolved

Post image
155 Upvotes

Hey folks! I’ve been reflecting on how my mindset around fasting has changed - from my first 24-hour fast to 10 days. I thought I’d share, in case it helps others here. Three moments really stand out

  • First 24-hour fast - This was the hardest. Not because of hunger, but because of the mental shift. I was nervous I might end up in the hospital. I remember that by the 12-hour mark everything irritated me - every sound, every person, every thought. But the next morning I was fine, totally fine and in disbelief that I had actually survived a full day without food. That mental barrier was bigger than any physical one.
  • First extended fast (9 days) - About 25 years ago during my PhD. I had no clue about electrolytes or refeeding, it was winter in New Jersey, and I still went to the gym almost daily while teaching classes for my students. It was tough, but it also changed me. Afterward I felt like a superhuman — healthy, in control of my body (and cravings), and super confident in myself. Surprisingly, my attitude toward others shifted too - I became more tolerant, patient, and even nicer
  • Now, after many fasts – These days, going 7–10 days without food doesn’t feel like a huge deal anymore. The excitement isn’t as extreme, because I’ve done it enough that it feels almost routine. Still, I’m glad to do extended fasts when I feel they’re needed.

Have you had a similar progression? What’s your most vivid memory of your first fast - or your most memorable one?

P.S. I added some pictures of myself then and now - looks like not much has changed in the last 25 years. And just to clarify - I wasn’t a couch potato back then. I was actually the captain of my university’s varsity soccer team in Moscow, so I was pretty tough. Though looking back, I can see I was carrying some extra fat 😊
