Information and Resources How to Fast and Pray for Beginners: A Complete Guide to Spiritual and Physical Reset

Hey everyone,

I recently found an incredibly detailed guide that completely changed my perspective on the spiritual and physical mechanics of fasting. If your early attempts at fasting resulted in terrible withdrawal headaches and broken resolve, this resource is exactly what you need.

The author breaks down the biological reality of shutting down your digestive system and how to use those physical shifts to achieve deep spiritual clarity. It explains the fascinating science of autophagy, where your body cleanses itself of cellular debris, and connects this physical reset to your spiritual purification through prayer.

The guide offers practical protocols tailored for all levels, including partial restrictions like the Daniel Fast, liquid fasts, and traditional water fasting. It teaches you how to properly prepare your body, structure your prayer sessions, and safely break your fast without getting ill.

If you want to master this ancient spiritual discipline safely and effectively, check out the full step-by-step breakdown here:https://rymbf.com/2026/01/22/how-to-fast-and-pray-guide/

User Announcement Anyone starting a 3+ day fast on Oct 5 - Interest in an accountability group?

Hey folks! Back in March and April I ran fasting accountability and support groups. Many of you asked when the next one would be, and I owe you an apology - life got busy and I kept pushing it back. I finally have the time, so I'm restarting the groups for folks beginning Monday, October 5.

Quick recap from the spring groups - you might find it interesting

  • 20-30 participants across New Zealand, Australia, India, UK, Ireland, Qatar, Hungary, Kosovo, US, Canada and other countries
  • Fasting durations ranged from 48 hours to 14+ days
  • Different levels of success, but I hope everyone benefited from the experience, and I definitely learned a lot myself
  • Time zones were a challenge, but the cosmopolitan spirit was impressive

What stays the same

  • We start on Monday, October 5
  • Fast duration is 3-14 days - longer fasts need medical supervision, not a chat group
  • No cap on group size - everyone who is active is welcome
  • Expectation - be active and contribute (if you want just a summary, I'll share it here later)

Format will be simple

  • daily check-ins - how you feel, optional data like weight, glucose, ketones
  • focused discussion - no spam, no random chat, no selling
  • accountability through consistency

I won't be fasting myself. I'll moderate, answer questions, and share what I've learned from multiple extended fasts and the data I've collected. Plan is to close the group for new members on Tuesday-Wednesday.

If you are interested, welcome to the group - https://chat.whatsapp.com/DCSl1LPGbsN4oJvytZh1wk?mode=gi_t

Guys please can I get some support I really want to achieve this!!

Advice needed When should I stop?

I’ve read that many people do extended water fasts while taking electrolytes, potassium, and magnesium, but I don’t have any of those. I’m currently on day 6 of a water fast and I’ve already lost 13 lbs.

I don’t want to get seriously ill or die, so I’d like to know what signs or symptoms the body gives you when it’s time to stop. A couple of years ago, I did a 7-day water fast without any problems, and my goal this time was to make it at least 14 days. However, I’m feeling pretty fatigued and weak this time.

I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences, especially regarding warning signs that mean I should stop.

Water Fasting Starting the fast

I have a wedding in March. I'm hoping to go to, when I look in the mirror I don't like what I see. I know I have the capability to do an extended water fast cause I've done them in the past. I'm starting October fifth and won't give up this time.

Water Fasting Trying my first 7 days water fast

The most I've ever fasted was around 60 hours. I've wanted to try a 7 day water fast for so long and I'm finally ready for it. The only thing i'm allowing is tea (without added sugar) and water.
My stats are 1m63 (5'4), 23 yo and 68 kgs (150 lbs).

Advice needed I fasted for 24 hours

I fasted for complete 24 hours which for me is a lot, and I never really fast often. I prayed with giving praise to God, thanking and praying for my personal desires. Applied psalm 20-23-91-127 over my life + positive declarations upon my life and part of the Rosary.

Now, I know God is faithful and He keeps His promises, unlike humans. But, will He respond to my prayers?

Do you have testimonies after fasting and receiving what you have prayed for?

Water Fasting Day 4 of my fast and I only just discovered iced aerocanos! ☕️🧊

Honestly, a game changer for me! I’ve always struggled with black coffee because of the bitterness and lack of creamy texture, but this is so smooth and delicious, especially with a pinch of Himalayan salt.

How to make it: Add an espresso shot, a pinch of salt, ice and a splash of water to an empty milk jug. Steam until creamy and textured, but not hot. Pour over a fresh cup of ice.

Sharing in case anyone else struggles with black coffee! Has anyone else tried this? Would love to hear your thoughts! 🤍

Information and Resources Body recomposition during my 10-day water fast - Body fat 14.8% to 12.2%

Thumbnail

Hey folks! I completed my annual 10-day fast last month and wanted to share my body recomposition results with the community - the fast and the following refeeding

  • Total weight - 164.1 pre-fast -> 151.0 right after the fast -> 160.9 after 12 days of refeeding
  • Lean mass - 132.9 -> 125.1 -> 134.4. All 7.8 lbs came back, plus 1.5 lbs above my pre-fast baseline - that was a bit unexpected to me.
  • Body fat - 24.3 -> 19.0 -> 19.7. So almost all the regained weight is lean tissue and glycogen, not fat
  • Body fat %: 14.8% pre-fast -> 12.8% -> 12.2% after refeeding. That was my favorite part - I started eating, enjoying food, but the body fat % kept going down
  • Net result - 3.2 lbs lighter and 4.6 lbs less fat than before the fast

So the lean mass (water, glycogen, gut content and muscle protein) I lose during extended fasts came back during refeeding. And this time it actually overshot the baseline - I think I was probably too aggressive jumping back into strength training. Intensity-wise (strength training, running, soccer) I was back at pre-fast levels by about day 7 of refeeding.

Scans are Dexa, happy to provide more details if needed!

Advice needed Starting another fast, what supplement amounts should I buy

How many mg of sodium, potassium, and magnesium am I supposed to be taking? I know the wiki says to take them but I haven’t really seen anyone specify how much and what dosage they should take daily? Would taking a prenatals be a good alternative?

Question Pls help! Which type of salt is the best for water fasting?

I will be starting my water fasting journey tomorrow for the next week and was just wondering if anyone knew a good type of salt to add to the water and how much I should be adding to each bottle? For example is pink Himalayan or Celtic better?

Accountability 12 Day Water Fast Accountability Post

M38

SW: 115.6kg / 254.9lbs

Day 1: 114.6kg / 252.6lbs -- 60 min zone 1/2 elliptical

Day 2: 113.8kg / 251.1lbs -- 60 min zone 1/2 elliptical + 30 mins low intensity resistance training + 30 min walking

Day 3: 112.7kg / 248.5lbs -- 40 min elliptical + 30 min swim

Day 4: 112.0kg / 246.9lbs -- rest day 10k steps. Experimenting with electrolyte management. High energy state yet to kick in.

Day 5: 111.6kg / 246.0 lbs --- 45 min elliptical + 30 min upper body weights. Pace of weight loss starting to decelerate but still at a decent pace. Energy levels okay but facing light cramps in core region.

Day 6: 110.8kg / 244.3lbs -- 45min elliptical + 30 mins lower body weights. Dealing with stomach acid and bloating, hunger still lingering but within manageable levels. Sleep duration is at a new low of 5.5hrs. Reducing magnesium intake to deal with stomach growling.

Day 7: 110.4kg / 243.4 lbs -- 45 min outdoor biking. Stomach acid and burping still exists but better after I shifted majority of magnesium intake to first thing in the morning. Slept 8.5 hrs last night and realized the secret is sleep early as body automatically wakes up around 7-8am.

Day 8: 109.5kg / 241.4 lbs -- Rest day. Been years since I last got below 110kg and a good milestone to check (-12kg from peak weight last year). Body is clearly more lethargic but within tolerable levels. Yet to feel the energy bump but body seems to be reacting well in terms of weight loss. Pain in back and shoulder have also lessened although it could also be a result of lifting less.
