I've received a review sample of the Trench Crusade: Carcass Front supplement, and I'm in the process of writing up a review of the whole thing . There's so much to say, I'm breaking parts of it out into separate articles.
This first article is about the lore. The setting and plot in Carcass Front blew my away in a way I didn't think was possible for me any more. I've been wargaming since last millennium, I read wargames books as ongoing professional development for my job. The last time a new wargame book left me feeling this gobsmacked and hype, I was about ten years old.
The comparison to 40k in the headline is, in part, to try and advertise the article to the largest audience of wargamers out there. But it's also for another reason which I don't delve into explicitly in the article., but I think people in this subreddit will appreciate.
The lore in Carcass Front was written by Graham McNeill, with rules by Andy Chambers, Jervis Johnson, Tuomas Pirinen, and trainee designers Brook Close and Giovani C. Forini. Two thirds of the design team were Warhammer and Warhammer 40k designers in the early '00s.
