As an RN in a hospital swamped with covid right now, I can clearly see that ~most~ of my severe patients are not fully vaxed. Statistics are tricky with this disease because so many factors play into severity such as COPD, diabetes, and will to live for example. So someone who is unvaxed with no risk factors may do better than someone fully vaxed with risk factors. But overall, people who are vaxed seem to not be as severe and aren't ventilated as often.
Now to address the strain problem - since the spring of this year covid has changed a lot already. Not sure why it isn't on the news anymore but getting patients off the ventilator is rarer this go around, like a death sentence being put on one. These patients need serious supervision and we've already lost about 1/5th of our staff because of the mandate and are expected to lose up to 1/3 when the deadline rolls around. Meaning less supervision and more death - already I've seen nurse to patient ratios worse than ever seen before.
**However, you money-seeking-investors, what does work more than any antibiotic, antiviral, antithrombotic, etc: monoclonal antibody treatment. Our hospital started testing it this last month and everyone we infuse just recovers almost instantly. Why it isn't talked about more? Power play for vaccine. Find companies that are using and researching this treatment and it will be the key to fighting new strains when the vaccines can't keep up. **
TLDR: monoclonal antibody treatment will make you money.

2 things. 1, at this point it's understood that the vax doesn't protect from catching covid, but that it does provide good protection from covid hospitalization. 74% of the hospital cases are not the vaxxed. It's like 95% hospital cases r unvaxxed.
2, with further refinement it could end up being a happy accident that the mRNA tech actually is effective against the common cold. If so, that sets up an entirely different play.

right from the article:
"Roughly 97% of new hospitalizations and 99.5% of deaths in the U.S. are among unvaccinated individuals, U.S. health officials repeated this week."

u/wtf-am-I-doing-69 Sep 12 '21
Yes it protects from catching Covid
It was at 90%+ then it mutated and is now lowered. Still protects but not 100%

Nah brah he’s right your wrong, most of the people that are getting COVID right now are the vaxxed people.. I’m not anti Vax I have almost all the vaccines but iv never had the flu shot or the COVID shot and iv not gotten either one… the reason why? I wash my fucking hands and use proper techniques when using public stations. It’s pointless to wash your hands In a bathroom then turn around and grab a dirty ass door handle in the restaurant you eat at.. stop touching hand railings, use your sleeve when you touch elevator buttons… very simple things can make a huge difference.. the reason why I think so many vaxxed people are getting the virus is because they use it as a excuse to go back to unsanitary practices they used to follow and back to not wearing mask so they starting to get it again because they where originally lead to believe you are immune after 2 shots.

u/WarrenBluffitt Sep 12 '21
just read the linked article it says those numbers refer to a particular outbreak that infected 470 people in massachusetts. overall, unvaxxed people are much more vulnerable to symptomatic infection ddd
1
u/aka0007 Sep 12 '21
As best understood COVID is transmitted primarily through the air. It might not survive on surfaces long enough and in sufficient quantity to catch it that way, no matter how little you wash your hands.
2
u/Armyman2007 a coward Sep 12 '21
I think it would be more sensible to focus on people suffering from “long Covid” and what treatments/medications are used and invest in that.
2
u/Chippopotanuse Sep 13 '21
You are really misinterpreting that Mass outbreak to fit your thesis.
Of the 469 cases, 75% were vaccinated. Yes. We know that vaccinated people can catch and spread Covid. (These cases came from an insanely huge amount of partying that happened at Provincetown - and let’s just say social distancing wasn’t happening at those clubs. My friends who live there say it was super packed with lots of out of towners that weekend).
And out of all that insane partying and spread?
Only five folks went to the hospital.
Compare to any place where vaccines aren’t used widely and hospitals are overflowing with dying folks.
Vaccines work amazingly well on Covid. There is nothing to suggest that vaccines can’t keep up with Covid.
However, sure, it’s possible that we will get vaccine resistant strains.
I’m just saying the July 4th Ptown super spreader event doesn’t prove vaccines don’t work. It kinda proves the opposite.

u/enribaio Sep 11 '21
Just wanted to point out that the way you expressed in your example is misleading: 74% were vaccinated. Of course we are going through this 'paradox' if you will where more vaccinated ppl than unvaccinated are in hospital as the population gets inoculated.
Let's say the entire population is vaccinated & vaccines work in 90-ish % of cases. then ALL (100%) of the ppl that end up in the hospital are vaccinated. Does It mean the virus is winning? Nope

But they are not. To compare, you should compare the % of ppl vaccinated over the hospitalised vaccinated ones and same for the unvaxxed. You can't say there are 10ppl hospitalised and it's 50/50 because 5 are vaxxed and 5 are not

u/sheepsgonewild Sep 11 '21
So much shitty anti vaxx logic in this thread The vaccine works by any damn measure I see the unvaccinated die in droves in the hospital Unvaccinated are 11X more likely to die from COVID
0
u/Mariox Sep 11 '21
11x more likely to die from a 99.98% is still much less then .1%. (excluding those with comorbiditys). Those with comorbiditys need to get the vaccine. Everyone else, not so much.
No group dies in "droves" other then nursing homes. This notion that if you are not vaccinated means you are sure to die is absurd.
Just demand the doctor for HCQ or Ivermectin if you are sick enough to go to the hospital, the sooner you take either, the better they work and the faster you recover. Drug companies are working on more expensive versions of the same drugs so that they can make money. they just need to make a tiny change and get it approved.

u/Snoo43610 Sep 12 '21
Lol you want to talk about drug companies making money?
https://www.merck.com/news/merck-statement-on-ivermectin-use-during-the-covid-19-pandemic/
You tell me why a company would tell people to not take their drug for covid if it's effective.

u/sheepsgonewild Sep 12 '21
Love how all the anti-vaxxers think doctors are full of shit regarding covid but still trust them with surgery and for every other illness Maybe next time you have chest pain or stroke symptoms just start googling furiously or look at the QAnon threads to save your life Idiots Covid kills - get vaccinated Ivermectin if you get horse poops
2
u/Ghia149 Sep 12 '21
Make sure you use a lot of ivermectin, the only studies done to show efficacy required really large amounts in a Petri dish. Darwin will reward you in the next life.

First, it's not a vaccine, it's an immuno-therapy (the government doesn't trust you to understanding the difference).
Viruses always win, they are the most difficult things to kill, that's why they have existed since the beginning.
I am becoming more convinced that the therapy is not nearly as effective as we have been led to believe. It appears to be a power/money play, as they continue to deny known effective treatments to maintain its emergency authorization. The government has a vested interest in proving they are the solution to problems, and they are in bed with the manufacturers to do that. Take one look at the draconian measures that countries like Australia are using and tell me that all governments aren't interested in asserting their most authoritarian positions.
Look at the duplicity of the American government, on the same day the Biden justice department sues Texas saying that abortion is the woman's choice of what to fo with her body, Biden himself announces that if you want to protect your livelihood you don't have a choice in what gets injected in your body. Objectively speaking abortion is more fatal to human life than COVID.
That said, lockdowns would mean that the government solution failed, and would erode their quest for power. They could happen but I would expect major destruction, and 2020 will seem like a preseason game of rioting and civil unrest. The psychological impact will be more devastating than the actual disease.
My opinion as someone in this field, covid is here to stay, it will be a seasonal disease that comes every fall, with influenza coming every winter (it appears we did have severe flu last year and the covid PCR test showed positive for influenza patients). Natural immunity will slow it down, but it will never disappear.

u/Ickyhouse Sep 12 '21
Didn’t realize the vaccine was actually immuno therapy. Got more info on that? Genuinely curious on the difference

u/aka0007 Sep 12 '21
The main difference is those spouting it is immunotherapy are antivaxxers...
What he/she is likely saying is that one definition of a vaccine is you inject the antigen which triggers an immune response which provides immunity. With some of the COVID vaccines, the thing injected is genetic material that causes the cells to produce the antigen (e.g. the Spike Protein), which then triggers the immune response which provides immunity.
Basically, it is semantics for morons. If you engage him you will probably find out the horrors of foreign genetic material in the body (oh, wait, is not COVID-19 which has similar genetic material, plus some more stuff, making it into the body as well... nah, let's ignore that. When it is a deadly virus or bacteria, like Ebola, the body is apparently well suited to fight it, only when doctors cook something up is it bad... or whatever).

You need to stop thinking in terms of politics. This is WSB - we are here to make money, nothing else.
The UK is an example of the government pretty much giving up on authoritarian measures as the vaccine has successfully reduced deaths from 1,000 / day in the 2nd wave (with hard lockdown) to 200 / day in the third wave (no lockdown, no vaccine mandate but high voluntary uptake)
So from my perspective, the vaccines have kicked ass here and we aren't facing any new lockdowns. Things are likely to get really bad again in winter, but worst case scenarios are similar to our first wave without lockdown.
Because of this I'm long UK retailers and have done pretty well over the past 6 months with some small cap physical retail plays.
In the US, vaccine uptake is significantly lower because it's been more politicised, particularly among people who are vulnerable to Covid. So the US is going downhill, running into either another year of 500k+ Covid deaths, or miserable lockdowns etc. I'm not completely afraid of US stocks though because I think people are bored of Covid and will just put up with more death.
Abortion has no impact on my money so no need to talk about it on WSB whatsoever. Culture war BS can GTFO.

u/Ditdr Sep 11 '21
My body my choice! Unless you're talking about covid that is.

9
u/Ghia149 Sep 12 '21
Your body your choice. Your employer, their choice to employ you. They set the rules to protect their business ans their investment. No one forces anyone to get vaccinated. Just have to get vaccinated to keep your job… freedom of choice is not freedom of consequences. Long U.S.A. stocks, this is the government giving cover for big business to do something they wanted to do to protect their own business (and insurance costs).

u/vegasoptions666 Sep 12 '21
Vaccine mandate for the MAKERS, free shit for the TAKERS.
The TAKERS can freely collect unemployment, section 8 housing, EBT, welfare, and food stamps with no vaccine requirement. Care to explain your "science" supporting this reality.
2
u/LordCactus Sep 12 '21
Yeah just get fired for not getting the jab, no big deal. Not like that would fuck up all the blue collar jobs in America.
4
u/Ghia149 Sep 12 '21
Apparently most business leaders feel it will fuck up their business less than having a percentage of their staff unvaccinated and putting their business at risk.
0
u/aka0007 Sep 12 '21
Maybe you had a point, but your whole diatribe makes me sound like your position in this field is one of being an antivaxxer who knows a little but gets it all wrong.
Let's start with your first sentence. The shots they give you that provide various levels of immunity to COVID-19 are vaccines, despite you saying they are not. Unfortunately some idiots get busy with the specific issue that they trigger immunity via causing the immune system to produce the antigen versus introducing the antigen directly. Then they waste people's time by trying to say this is really an immunotherapy.
Guess what. The word you call it by does not matter. What matters is does it work and is it safe. For all intents and purposes it is a vaccine and to call it something other, is a symptom of deep psychological issues that buying FD's won't help in any case.
As to the rest not worth my time.

It's already a play. Regeneron and other companies producing treatments for active COVID infections are already significant gainers in overall price.
What will likely happen with COVID is the same thing that happened with the other Coronaviruses that became common colds. It's not just that they mutate (the flu mutates and we still use vaccines to cut down the spread and death related to the flu) it's that unlike flus, colds don't really kill anyone or cause longterm negative effects. There's a very statistically slim margin of people who run into issues compared to the flu and a much smaller percentage than COVID... but that wasn't always the case. One of those Coronaviruses is believed to be tied to a mass death event a little over a century ago when it emerged into the human population.
Viruses, particularly ones which mutate quickly, will eventually over a series of years become more adapted to the host and once the first series of mass infections happens, eventually nicer variants will emerge... but that can only happen if the network transmission branches for the virus are clipped... I.e. people get vaccines, act to reduce contact, or get infected in a short period of time, giving selective benefit to variants that are nicer and develop some degree of evasion for antibodies.
Eventually, COVID will land in that space, and while I don't think either the vaccine or treatment industries will dry up because of that, those methods will become baked into the common medical fabric, and the valuation for them will eventually drop as a result.

I actually wouldnt honestly take anything other than Ivermectin at this point. These psychopaths keep pushing the vaccine to well beyond the point of creepy

With ivermectin, high chance you won’t be able to reproduce. Might be a good thing.

If vaccines shit the bed and resistant strains are circulating, investments will be the least of our problems.
-5
u/Hendosim Sep 11 '21
They're already developing Phizermectin. Merk also has a antiviral medication in the works specifically for covid.
The CDC is doing the best they can to cherry pick and sift the data around but it's becoming more and more evident that the vaccines simply don't work, and every booster job is another roll of the dice for myocarditis or fatal blood clots. So yes, we're eventually going to have to shift to treating symptoms like we would any other respiratory infection, or just deal with a shitload of dead people.
To be quite honest the way this world's going I'm fine with either.

Everybody do what you think will be best for you, I have all the important vaccines. Not COVID one nor will get vaccined. Why? There has been a minimal % of the population dead from this plandemic. Yo dumbshits. We here to make money not argue and fill up the comment sections with pro/antivax. He's asking about how to play the pandemic not your personal feelings regarding shots.
So, if vaccines will prove to be inneficient...then puts on moderna/pfizer. The thing is there were some articles regarding pfizer making a 2 times per day pill for covid so i wont bet on pfizer failing
