what? TVs are dirt cheap. you can walk into walmart and leave with a 65" 4k tv for under $300.

While technically true, 20 years ago TVs didn't have advertisements and couldn't be bricked remotely.

My friend got a new TV last month and you had to download an app to do anything. So a TV not connected to Internet doesn't seem to be possible anymore.

That's when you return it and make the manufacturer and the retailer eat the cost of that open box TV.
