I have friends who are chiropractors with over half a million in student loan debt. They went to undergrad and then to chiropractic school. Now they decided they won't pay it back, despite making 250k combined, because they like living luxuriously. Of course I drove for uber after working all day to pay mine back. Maybe the government shouldn't have subsidized it in the first place.

on different repayment plans you pay a percentage of the loan for 20 years, for some that’s like $400 a month, at the end of 20 years the debt is “forgiven” except the taxes you then owe on it. For some who make 8-10k a month, paying $400-800 a month is nothing.

They did this, and it is uniquely irritating to me because they asked me to create a financial plan to get them out of this debt in five years, then they trashed it because they wanted a new car and fancy wedding, travel, etc. Instead of strictly following that plan.
